Tyranny is our inclination to punish and oppress the other. – Ken White
A tweet about favorite Rolling Stones songs got me thinking about this one (surely you didn’t think my favorite Stones song would be a happy, upbeat one?), so here it is. The links above it were provided by Mark Draughn, Popehat, Dave Krueger, Adi MacArtney, and Carol Fenton (x2), in that order.

In “The Banality of Tyranny,” Ken White spoke of “Thought Police.” I found that concept to be very interesting because I ran across the process once and that was the term I used for the stress placed upon a thought.
I wonder if I have written or eluded to this occurrence, before? To save myself from repeating myself, I will just say this; The best way to beat the process of Thought Policing is to suggest the occurrence is happening and to speak of the boundary that you present. For what is in a person mind is the most sacred of places and no one has a right to infer what another is thinking or supplant ideas. Not if we agree and believe in Free Thought policies.
Long live the Free Thinker.
Never call the cops when you are illegally residing in someone else’s country.
Yeah, instead do like your ancestors & mine: reside in someone else’s country uninvited & slaughter the natives whenever you interact with them. SO MUCH more moral.
So, you are saying that illegal aliens are engaged in an invasion of their host countries?
No, I’m saying that as a resident in a glass domicile, you should be mindful about where you’re heaving those cobbles.
I meant it as something of a snark, but the more I think about it, the more I realise that this indeed the salient point.
How stupid would it be for an Australian white colonial to call on the legal system of the local aboriginal tribe for assistance were he or she in any kind of difficulty? How absurd would it have been for a cowboy to call on the indians to mediate any sort of dispute, and be shocked, shocked, shocked that their attitude was “well actually, there’s something rather more important we’d like to address first”.
This illegal alien acted as though he had some sort of right to protection and assistance from the law officers of the country he was invading. What a fool. What blind entitlement. Can’t he *see*? Evidently not.
Countries are a thing.
Paint It Black has always been one of my faves, alomng with Under My Thumb and Lady Jane.
