Have you heard? True Blood is being put out of its misery! Did y’all SEE this past season What was that? I really loved the first three seasons of True Blood. I never read The Southern Vampire Mysteries, so I know a lot of the book fans didn’t exactly like the series, which I completely understand. Just get me alone with a handle of whiskey so I can tell you how much A Game of Thrones sucks balls and totally bastardizes the innate awesomeness of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
ANYWAY…
Most of all, I will miss Lafayette Reynolds, by far my favorite black queer sex worker and part time psychedelic drug dealer (fictional though he is), which is saying a lot for the group of people I have known at various points in my life. Lala, as Lafayette is affectionately called by fans, provided part of the title for this post. Whenever he wanted to get someone straight, he’d say, “Hooker, please”, regardless of their sex work status. Nelsan Ellis is also a wonderful actor, from my neck of the woods, and I hope he continues to have a successful career after True Blood goes off the air.
But I’ve been so disappointed for the last season and a half, especially this extremely short season. I understand the need to give Anna Paquin maternity leave but the writers and showrunner could have done better about the pacing of the season. It felt so very rushed and the storyline could have easily, EASILY taken up the last two seasons. In fact, it should have. But in rushing the end of the Vampire Holocaust storyline, I feel that the storyline was cheated of its full potential. Season 6 could have been so much better.
I was going to pass up the next season but since it is the last season, I want to see how it all ends. Whether or not I’ll end up fanwanking and up-ending tables all over my apartment is yet to be revealed.
