Attention, state-level politicians: the watchword is “Balkanization”. You need to seriously start thinking about it. Don’t sink into the comfortable, warm embrace of patriotic historical fantasies; instead, consider the lessons of history and have some damned moral courage for once. A decade ago, Washington and Colorado flipped the bird to the central enabling mechanism of the federal War on Drugs, and thereby started a quiet revolution. You can do the same. Think about it.

Boring but necessary legal stuff
Brillant graphic for making your point. However, the incurable problem with a “secessionist” approach is working out how to draw the lines. I mean, the Confederacy argued all day about their right to split off from the Union but went went to war with the German speaking parts of Texas who wanted out of the CSA.
There are endless examples in history of this. And today in the US, there are sub-unit parts of all major cities that would love to split off into independent, self supporting enclaves – if they could.
Adequately defining “self supporting” requires more brains than I possess.
