An acquaintance of mine who is a psychology academic asked me: I wondered if a professional like yourself had any thoughts about Bonnie Blue (the OnlyFans “Sex with 1000 men” star), the response to her, and any matters arising? The pundits have asked everyone their thoughts, apart from people actually in sex work.
The thing to remember is that while all sex work is a performance, OnlyFans is a show. I mean, while obviously individual escorting is a kind of show, OnlyFans is more like acting in a play or movie. It’s unidirectional, and the paying customers are not in the room with the performer. And there are so many shows available on the internet, it’s more like 100-channel cable TV than like the three-major-networks-plus-PBS-and-sometimes-UHF-stations environment of our youth. In other words, if you want to make any money, you need to attract attention, and one way of doing that is with outrageous publicity stunts. You have got to admit “I will have sex with 1000 men in a single performance” is pretty damned outrageous, and it accomplished exactly what she wanted it to accomplish; I’m sure she made a helluva lot of money from that show itself and from the viewers brought in by the notoriety. Was it difficult and stressful? Sure, and so is prizefighting or being a professional dancer or circus performer, or being an actor in a superhero movie who has to do gonzo workouts and eat a carefully-controlled diet for months to get a superhero physique. Physical performance is not for the faint of heart! I’m sure the pearl-clutchers and idiots had a lot of things to say about her, 99 44/100% of it stupid. But the same can be said about ignoramuses who comment on rock music without having any musical training, or art without ever having taken an art class, or dance without having the physical coordination to walk & chew gum at the same time. And when sex is involved, it becomes 10x worse. The worst comments are going to come from men who refuse to comprehend that sex is not the same for women as it is for them; women who are afraid of their own sexuality; and prudes of both sexes who like to pretend in public that they are the only arbiters of what sex should be allowed for everybody. But in the end, the only person who needs to be satisfied with the outcome is Miss Blue herself. I am not her confidante, so I don’t know whether she’s happy with the results. But she probably didn’t go into this without deep consideration, and one way or the other she’s a big girl. The rewards and consequences are on her, and the opinions of nitwits, bluenoses, and wankers are of no consequence.
