Honey badger don’t give a shit, it just takes what it wants.
I’m honestly not planning to make a habit out of letting Links columns post half-finished; my excuse this time is the same as the last two times, namely travel sickness. I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that I’m going to have to avoid common carriers entirely; see this coming Tuesday’s column for my proposed solution. Anyhow, the first video today is from the lovely and wonderful Mistress Matisse, who has decided that it is her mission to bring more fun into my life (and is succeeding admirably so far). The second video, from Jesse Walker, is a 1950’s TV pilot made by Orson Welles; everything above the first video is from Radley Balko, and the links between the videos from Nun Ya, Popehat and Mike Siegel (in that order).

Stingray: Anyone know just how often warrants are denied by judges? I can’t find any stats on that.
I do know a lot of cops – and they talk about how incredibly easy it is to get warrants. I think they “shop” for judges that will just sign anything they ask him too.
And I also know of cases where PI’s who were ex-cops got warrants simply by asking their friends on the police force to get them. In one case – the request was for cell phone records. The target had not broken any law – but a client of a PI wanted to know his whereabouts. The PI contacted a sheriff’s deputy who went to a judge and issued a warrant – then the deputy did the search and turned what he found over to the PI.
It’s really gone apeshit. In my home town – there’s an election going on for DA, and the front runner is the front runner simply because he’s a butt-boy of the local sheriff and says he can work with police to keep our town safer. His opponent is HATED by the sheriff. Personally, I think an antagonistic relationship between cops and the DA is a GOOD thing and keeps them more honest.
Oh yeah – the sheriff in question … he’s the same guy that confiscated guns after Katrina in violation of the second amendment. Took the NRA years to get him to give back the guns. How that motherfucker still wins elections is a mystery to me.
Slightly off-topic, but I remember Maggie posting a link to a Lovecraftian-inspired dish called the “cthurkey”. Is that what she’s planning to have this Thanksgiving? 🙂
Alternatively, there is also the ‘turducken’.

I’m no fan of Six-Gun Grady Judd, but the active shooter drill was not his thing, it was the Winter Haven Police, not the Pol County Sheriff. Though I’m sure he approves.
