Every year on her feast day, I honor St. Mary Magdalene; even though the Church does not officially recognize her as the patron of whores, she certainly is in the public imagination. And if beliefs have power, that recognition of sacred whoredom in the minds of millions has far more metaphysical and philosophical weight than any official Church designation.
Magdalene’s Day 2017

She was the bravest of all apostles. She was there with Mother Mary to wrap the body of Christ after Crucifixion after the other apostles left the scene. She was an independent woman who wasn’t afraid to go head to head with Peter. I believe the Church has done her a tremendous injustice by not fully acknowledging her role in the story.
this painting of the sacred whore with the massage oil jar, which I find very beautiful, is by Carlo Dolci. Go see it in Florence at the Palazzo Pitti. It’s one of the prides of the collection.
If the church was to fully acknowledge her role in the story, do you know how many women in America or world wide would pick up her banner, proclaiming there God given right to liberation of any sort. Liberation of all things conforming and the ability to capitalize on the economy or in social matters as determined by God’s grace. I don’t know though, as a Man and one who wants peace in his home I can’t really say I am down with Any means necessary, I am ok with a woman making a decision just one within reason and won’t make her feel her soul will burn in hell for the choices she made in this life.
