Although I really hate Christmas displays and marketing going up before Thanksgiving day (tune in this coming Friday if you want to know how much I hate it), my behind-the-scenes preparations have already started. I’ve ordered some presents already, bought Grace’s ticket to visit me over the last two weeks of the year, and have already set up for my annual Yuletide special (details on Friday). All this despite the fact that I’m really still in a more Halloweenish mood, as evidenced by this recent selfie taken while I was very high and looking quite witchy. That may have something to do with a lot of difficult personal stuff I’ve been dealing with lately, or the rereading of a number of my stories while compiling The Forms of Things Unknown, or even binge-watching Doctor Who with Lorelei Rivers. As many of you probably realize, binge-watching TV shows is not my usual style. But I’d never seen any of the post-revival episodes until now (though the classic series is one of my favorites), and I’d like to catch up. Plus Lorelei is a major fan, and she is extremely persuasive (not that it actually takes a lot of arm-twisting to get me to cuddle on a sofa for hours with a beautiful young woman). Anyway, I’m also starting to put together the sketchy outlines of my January tour down the West Coast, and it looks like I may (not certain yet) head down to Florida in March. So keep your eyes on these diary columns and be sure to let me know ASAP if you want a date while I’m passing through your city.
Diary #334

Well, I can’t wait till March. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed. I certainly plan on watching this column carefully.
Enjoy the Doctor.
A cavil:
Why no “Comments” on the “Frequently Told Lies” page?
I’m forced to leave one here, where it’s off-topic and out-of-place (apologies! of course, pls feel free to delete/move if it’s getting in the way), for lack of comments there.
Came to say, that was brilliantly argued, thank you.
Eloquent, as well as cogent and compelling; fun to read, good to have some misimpressions (not many; most I either already knew, or had the sense of, or at least came as no surprise) corrected.
Made me wonder about something, though…
Little-known-fact:
rates of “experimenting” (why do they always call it that? I never wore a lab coat when I got high — did you?) with drugs are *positively* correlated with IQ. The class stoner is more likely to be the class genius than the incipient dropout (though brilliance and dropping out are, of course, not mutually exclusive either).
The eloquence, clarity, and cogency of your “FTL” page analyses lead me to figure your IQ for at least a 134 (which is to say, at least 2 standard deviations above the mean; top 2% nationally), if not significantly higher.
(Have you ever been tested? If not, your SAT scores can proxy for an IQ test; similar percentile rankings.)
Which in turn leads me to wonder what the distribution of IQs looks like among sex workers?
Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if, as with drugs, it skewed higher than that for the population at large.
But I’d also be surprised if anyone’s ever done a proper study on it.
Maybe you should do something about that…
In your copious spare time.
If you did ever want to do so, and set up a GoFundMe page, I’d chip in a bit.
Thanks for all your work here.
Wish you the very best, especially for the holiday season.
Cheers
Yes, I’ve been tested, several times. And you’re right, it’s significantly higher. Alas, that’s never really made me any money to speak of. If you’d like to help in that department, you could click on one of those subscription buttons at right. 😉
Binge watching Doctor Who is awesome. Apparently there will be a new Christmas special this year along with a new season starting in April.
It’ll be a while before we get there; we just finished series one on Sunday night & watched the Christmas special introducing the 10th Doctor.
I envy you. You have so much goodness awaiting. 🙂
Florida in March!!! OH BABY!!!!
