Exit, stage left! – Snagglepuss
Every so often Pandora gives me a gift by introducing me to a delight I didn’t know existed, and a few days ago this one popped up on my Beatles station (yes, I have a Beatles Pandora station; shut up). It’s the title track from Ringo’s most recent (March 2015) studio album, Postcards from Paradise, and its lyrics largely consist of the titles of Beatles songs. If you’re not a Beatles fan you probably won’t like it, but I am so I do. Yes, I’m old; I know it’s easy to forget that since I look hotter than any two chicks half my age. Anyhow, the links above it are from Jesse Walker, Tim Cushing, Mistress Matisse, Tim Cushing again, Popehat, Elizabeth N. Brown, and Ricardo Cortés, in that order.

Regarding making targeting the police a hate crime; the problem isn’t the ‘targeting the police’ portrait ion of that idiocy. The problem is with the basic concept of ‘hate crime’. Once you’ve accepted that poison pill, all kinds of ‘we hold power, we get to beat on people we don’t like’ crap is inevitable. The core of ‘Hate Crime’ is the idea that it is laudable to punish people for wrong thought.
You do understand that the whole reason “hate crime” laws were created in the first place was to install a palatable-to-the-masses precedent for thoughtcrime, no?
I understand that the Liberal Establishment (which is, in fact, Fascistic) wanted to punish thoughtcrimes, and (as usual) gave no consideration to the possibility that people they disagreed with might one day hold that power and use it to beat them like a redheaded stepchild. We’re seeing a lot of that, as Trump uses precedents they were de-friggin-lighted with in Obumbles’ hands.
*spit*
Mind, the establishment Right also gives me the red arse. And Libertarians often strike me as so many Little Dolly Daydreams.
Basically, I’m a Crank.
The progress of human civilization can be measured by the degree to which the common man can tell his so-called betters to go climb a tree.
There is no such thing as a “liberal establishment”. The word “liberal” originally meant the opposite of “authoritarian”, and it currently has no meaning at all, having become a mere counter-word (a word with no intrinsic meaning used to indicate membership in an in-group). The United States is fascist, and has been since the 1930s (with roots for 20 years before that). The pretense of a “liberal/conservative” dichotomy largely arose in the 1970s and confuses anyone who tries to apply it to events even as recent as those of the 1960s. Fascist governments want to control thought, and whether the particular excuse in question appeals more to silly people who think of themselves as “liberal” rather than silly people who consider themselves conservative” is both immaterial and obfuscating.
While I agree that the country is heading in a totalitarian direction, and has been at least since that racist bastard Woodrow Wilson, I would argue that there is an ‘establishment’ that self-lables ‘Liberal’ or ‘Progressive’ or both. They have a huge amount of control in the Democrta party, the mainstream Media, and Higher Education. There is also a seperate establishment that holds sway in the Republican party on a national level.
Right now there seem to be Populist movements against both establishments. The Republican populists got their man nominated (how much Trump is a real populist and how much is branding remains to be seen.). The Democrat establishment quashed the nomination of Sanders (whose populist credentials are at least,as,suspect as Trumps, BTW), and lost the general election.
If Trump successfully maimtans his outsider/populist cred and the Democrats keep up their tantrum, we are in for eight years of Trump. We’ll see.
What I expect will happen, sooner or later, is a really BIG terrorist attack, with a death toll running to 5 figures. That will tip us to a Caesar, and flat out Imperialism.
*shrug* Too bad. It was a nice enough Republic while it lasted.
“Shit for brains” – unacknowledged kink strikes again!
