It’s strange to think it has already been four years since I decided to move my primary residence to Washington. In the first week of December, 2016, I called Grace and proposed the idea to her; even after I pointed out the difficulties of the idea, her response was simply “I want to be with you.” Just a month later we had already walked in this house and decided to buy it; here’s a brief timeline of the various steps I’ve taken to make it a home:

Thanks for the links to all of your posts it was nice to follow along. Yes, I read them all and most comments. You did a few things in your construction, planning, etc that I would not have and I would have approached things differently, but ultimately it is what works for you that is important. One thing I found interesting is your struggles was trying to get a construction loan. I am trying to buy my last home, VA, and have experienced the same. The VA doesn’t require credit but banks & CU do, Since I have not used credit for over 15 years I would have to go conventional and pay lots of BS fees. It comes down to pay fees or pay cash in 12 to 18 months.
I have no idea what you’re talking about; I discovered back in ’03 that banks don’t want to give construction loans on rural property, and I have made no attempt to secure such a loan since. I own Sunset outright, with no mortgages or loans, and that is how I want it.
That is a wonderful, organized timeline, Maggie! You have every right to be proud of yourself. Retirement is the best job I have ever had and I am so enjoying learning to garden. Your place looks fantastic ~~ my kind of country for sure.
