Recovered memory stuff…[is] a revenant that keeps popping out of the grave.  –  Richard McNally

If Men Were Angels

It’s telling how often “authorities” willing to pay for sex prefer underage girls:

A Missouri [preacher named]…Daniel Smathers…[was found] guilty of [“sex]…trafficking[” for paying an underage sex worker, and]…sentenced to 35 years in prison…He was arrested in 2022 after…the…girl[‘s]…mother…found social media posts about her daughter seeking a…sugar daddy[ and reported it to the cops, triggering an investigation]…

Time Warp

Here’s another bizarrely-anachronistic article that reads like something from the height of “sex trafficking” hysteria 13 years ago.  This time it’s from The New York Times, the rag which first launched “sex trafficking” hysteria in January of 2004 and was among its most aggressive promoters until Trumpists gained control of the narrative in 2020 and the Times pivoted to describing their own pet fantasy as a “right-wing conspiracy theory“.  But apparently, copsucker Emily Nunn was busy joyriding with cops when that memo came down, because she’s still not only still characterizing sex workers as pathetic, doll-like vegetables passively controlled by evil “pimps”, but also babbling about “hubs” and claiming that a single street can be a “notorious sex-trafficking corridor”.  Don’t waste your time reading this trash, because it’s the same recycled cop wanking fantasies regular readers have already seen a thousand times.

False Witness (#1105)

The dangerous and discredited doctrine of “repressed memories” is back under a new alias:

…Internal Family Systems…[is] a [pseudoscientific “]therapy[“] centered on…the [belief] that each individual has multiple selves…known as parts…[each] a literal personality with its own identity, age, feelings, even body…[it was invented during the Satanic Panic] in the 1980s…[but] has exploded in social media…Gwyneth Paltrow has praised IFS on her Goop[y Vaginas] podcast…[but actual] psychiatrists and psychologists…are…warning…[that] IFS [is]…a dangerous pseudoscience…that…[can] destabilize already fragile mental states…Former [victims of the practice report seeing]…women crawling around like babies or lying in fetal positions…run[ning] in circles screaming…[or pretending to] switch ages, genders, even species…in group sessions t[hey invent gruesome] stories of parents pimping out their daughters to entire neighborhoods, a grandmother molesting a child in a bathtub, a child forced into a meat locker with dead animals…[or] sexual abuse as an infant…former [victims have]…sue[d practitioners who]…took advantage of [their]…emotionally distressed state to make [them] believe th[ey]’d been repeatedly raped [in]…satanic cult[s] and…[forced to eat] babies…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1463)

Phrenology for tech worshipers:

…Personality assessments are an accepted part of [job] recruitment processes.  They normally involve candidates taking surveys and guessing what…answer[s the potential employer wants to see.  But popular pseudoscience claims]…personality types can be encoded in facial features, and that [machine learning algorithms] can spot them…and…predict…[a potential employee’s ability to serve the corporate machine acceptably]…one of [a] new paper’s authors…[thinks it would be a great idea to force potential borrowers to submit to] facial analysis [to] give lenders useful clues about a person’s propensity to repay loans…

Micromanagement (#1543)

It only starts with people the state wants you to hate and distrust:

proposed change to a Department of [Father]land Security…rule could impose “biological sex” DNA testing on millions of immigrants and Americans as part of the Department’s mass biometric surveillance program—which also includes retinal scans, voice capture, and more.  In addition to the obvious human rights violations posed by the changes—which, among other things, would amend policy to allow children to be targeted by biometric surveillance—it would put a target on the back of…women and [gender-nonconforming] people…citizens and non-citizens alike…The policy as proposed doesn’t have…any safeguards for privacy or constitutionality—the government can retain someone’s DNA profile indefinitely…to…track individuals in perpetuity through “continuous vetting”…

Shame, Shame (#1577)

Do nitwits still think realistic porn cartoons are the worst use for this technology?

Social media accounts on TikTok and [Twitter] are posting [computer]-generated videos of women and girls being strangled…One [Twitter] account…has been posting dozens of [such] videos [since] mid-October.  The[y]…are usually 10 seconds long and mostly feature a [cartoon of a] “teenage girl” being strangled, crying, and struggling to resist until her eyes close and she falls to the ground…

Torture Chamber (#1585)

This will continue until the evil US immigration policy is reformed:

A federal judge [has] issued a temporary restraining order…in response to an emergency class action lawsuit filed on behalf of individuals who have been [locked up in] the Broadview…ICE…[dungeon] near Chicago.  The order requires that the [hellhole] provide [victims] with clean bedding and space to sleep, basic hygiene supplies, showers, free water, and three full meals a day.  [Victims] must also be given their prescribed medications and be allowed to communicate with attorneys…ICE [victims]…in…Broadview…[are locked up] in…cell[s] with roughly 150 other people, [forced to attempt to] sleep…on the floor…near overflowing toilets, inoperable showers, and a lack of hygiene products like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap…the…[food is] cold…[and prepared under unsanitary conditions that give many prisoners] diarrhea….[which they must endure on] a toilet…inside the…crowded…cell…[without] privacy…[they are] denied access to an attorney while being [tortured as described so as to induce them] to sign legal documents…relinquish[ing] their rights…[torturers] argue that [they should be allowed to torture people by labeling] Broadview…a [“]temporary holding facility” even though…it has really become a prison…

They are trying to turn us into immigration agents.  –  Medicaid official

Time Warp

WTVT in Tampa, Florida recently published a bizarrely-anachronistic article that reads like something from the height of “sex trafficking” hysteria, 13 years ago.  Given that it’s a Fox affiliate in a Trumpist stronghold, I reckon that isn’t too surprising, but it still evokes a sort of negative nostalgia to see the sentence, “A first-of-its-kind study said there are 200,000 Floridians who are living as sex slaves”, in a 2025 article, followed by a version of the Shahada; the bizarre statement that “Florida is unlucky in that it has a plethora of large cities all connected by highways, slews of big events, and large airports and seaports” (because a large economy is bad?); the even stranger statement that “Florida is a hotbed of things like tourism, entertainment and agriculture” (the word “hotbed” generally has a negative connotation); and quotes from Selah Freedom, a Sarasota-based “rescue” organization that makes its money via a religious “diversion” program for sex workers so unpopular, the only way it gets participants is by cops literally forcing or frightening women into it.

Only Rights Can Stop the Wrongs (#752)

The political crowbar called the “TIP report” has been largely disused since the first Trump regime:

…the Trump [regime has] cut 1,353 positions at [the] State [Department]…eviscerating…the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, [which]…for 25 years…has worked to [spread misogynistic propaganda] and [impose sex work criminalization] around the world.  Its remit includes producing an annual [propaganda tool]…that grades every country on the issue…[as an excuse to impose] economic repercussions from the US, [but in reality has been widely recognized as a politically-motivated sham]…This year’s report was due on June 30, but has not been released…

Panopticon (#1409)

As I predicted just 18 months ago, Amazon’s retreat from fascist collaboration was short-lived:

Ring founder Jamie Siminoff is back at the helm of the surveillance doorbell company, and with him is the surveillance-first-privacy-last approach that made Ring one of the most maligned tech devices.  Not only is the company reintroducing new versions of old features which would allow [cops] to [pressure]…Ring users [directly], it is also introducing a new feature that would allow [cops] to [demand] live-stream access [without a warrant, thus]…rolling back…the reforms it’s made in the last few years by easing  [warrantless] access to footage from millions of homes in [order]…to spy on protestorsfind people who have had abortions or track down [migrants].  Siminoff has [also] announced…that the company will now…be “AI first”…[probably meaning] face recognition…employees at Ring will [now] have to show proof that they [they are too intellectually lazy to think or write for themselves] in order to get promoted…

No Escape (ROTW #11)

The last time we saw this lawsuit, the number was 95:

Another 107 people [have] filed complaints…against the state [of Illinois] for…allowing rampant sexual abuse in…juvenile [prisons], joining 800 other…victims who have filed…lawsuits in the last 14 months…In May 2024, 95 people [victimized] in [the] facilities filed a lawsuit [over] continued abuse by [screws and other] employees…another hundred…filed a complaint the following month and nearly 300 joined them in September.  The 907 [victims were]…abuse[d] from as long ago as 1996 to as recently as 2023…and…ranged in age from 9 to 17.  More than 500…[were] abused between 2000 and 2009, and 86% are male…Fifteen complaints..[specifically name] current Eldorado Mayor Rocky James…[who was a screw] for 29 years…[before transitioning into politics via] the [screw] union…James [raped]…minors for at least 12 years…[often after] handcuff[ing them] to [their] bed[s] before…[rap]ing [them] repeatedly…

Thought Control (#1513)

The urge to censor is a dangerous mental illness:

Members of North Idaho’s interlibrary loan consortium [have]…officially dissolved the Cooperative Information Network that allowed materials to be shared…[among 16] libraries…libraries will no longer share books between each other freely at the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.  An online collection with almost 24,000 e-books and audio books shared between the libraries is also up in the air…the dissolution was spurred by concerns of a potential lawsuit…[over] Idaho’s [censorship]…law that went into effect last year [and] requires libraries to…restrict…minors from accessing [not only books, but also] the…catalog in…which [they are listed]…

Thought Control (#1538)

Just keep plunging that ice pick in; the bad thoughts will go away eventually:

The [highly-politicized] Alabama Public Library [board has begun]…the process of [banning books on]…gender…[using one of the mad emperor’s illegal proclamations as an excuse].  APLS chairman John Wahl sent a letter to every public library in the state…demanding submission to the order or risk losing funding…The proposed rule changes will require 45 days of public comment and further administrative actions, meaning any changes to the code will not take effect for several months…

I Spy (#1553)

If you think this will go away when Trump does, you are a fool:

The [IRS] is building a computer program [to] give [ICE goons] unprecedented access to…the home addresses of [all American]…taxpayers…In the past, when [pigs wanted to root in]…IRS data…[they were required to] give the IRS the full legal name of the target, an address on file and an explanation of why the information was relevant to a criminal inquiry…[because] privacy laws [do not] allow…“the sharing of…hundreds of thousands of tax records for a broad-based [harassment campaign]”…Trump’s [henchmen, however, do not care if what they’re doing is]…illegal [or even] criminal…in [fact, this kind of rooting]…is…a felony that can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison…

And it isn’t just the IRS:

[ICE goons] will be given access to the personal data of the nation’s 79 million Medicaid enrollees, including home addresses and ethnicities, to [allow them to hunt] immigrants…and [anyone else they please]…some [Medicaid] officials [and politicians] have challenged the legality of…[the] move, [to no avail]…

Torture Chamber

A society can be judged by the way it treats its prisoners:

The Trump [regime] and the president of El Salvador…struck a deal allowing the U.S. to ship both detained migrants and imprisoned citizens to the tiny Central American nation…[even though it is illegal for] the U.S. government [to] deport American citizens…Bukele has made El Salvador’s stark, harsh prisons a trademark of his aggressive fight against [civil rights].  Since March 2022, more than 84,000 people have been [locked up without] due process…packed into cells without enough bunks for everyone…Bukele…plan[s] to [cram even] more people in[to his] mega-prison…prisoners…do not receive visits.  There are no programs preparing them to return to society after their sentences…[because the government plans to] never allow…[them] outside…ever [again]…

Time Warp

Long Island public radio station WSHU recently published a bizarrely-anachronistic article that reads like something from the height of “sex trafficking” hysteria, 13 years ago; given that NPR was a major font of “sex trafficking” wanking fantasies, I reckon that isn’t too surprising, but it’s still weird to see both politicians and stenographic “reporters” who apparently didn’t read the memo that “sex trafficking” is now a “right-wing conspiracy theory” rather than something taken seriously by people who are not complete lunatics.  The piece calls “sex trafficking” an “epidemic” and employs both a “King of the Hill” claim and the “Facebook pimps” myth to infantilize sex workers as “children” looking for “love”, before making the facially-absurd statement that Suffolk County’s is the first “trafficking court” in New York.

Little Puppets

Denying bright kids honors or AP classes doesn’t make you a champion of the proletariat; it makes you an abuser:

In 2021, a school district in Newton, Massachusetts, got rid of advanced classes in a [poorly-considered] bid to…reduc[e] achievement gaps between racial groups, [presumably by osmosis]…several parents brought up…concerns with the…policy—but…were smeared as “racists” and “right-wingers”…But years later…teachers themselves are…openly criticizing multilevel classes, arguing that it isn’t serving students’ needs…”I’ve heard about multilevel classes from many, many parents over the last three years, and the feedback has been consistently negative,” School Committee member Rajeev Parlikar said…”I actually have not heard from a single parent who thought their child benefited from being in a multilevel class”…the district is now working on reinstating leveled classes…

I Spy (#1372)

This isn’t just about privacy — it’s about the future of secure communication itself“:

…the UK government has…ordered Apple to create a backdoor that would allow them to access encrypted content from any Apple user worldwide…Apple [has] warned it might have to exit the UK market if pushed too far…[but] even…[that] won’t satisfy the UK’s demands…for backdoor access to the service in other countries, including the United StatesApple would be barred from warning its users that its most advanced encryption no longer provided full security…the UK isn’t just demanding the power to break encryption globally, they’re demanding the right to force Apple to actively deceive its users about the security of their data…

The Prudish Giant (#1427)

Morally-bankrupt businesses make morally-bankrupt business deals:

Gambling companies are covertly tracking visitors to their websites and sending their data to Facebook…without consent…the information is then being used by Facebook…to profile people as gamblers and flood them with ads for casinos and betting sites…

Thought Control (#1457)

Control-freak politicians need to be targeted by so many lawsuits they’re driven into ruin:

Several large book publishers, a tiny public library and others are suing Idaho [politicians] over a law that forces libraries to keep some books in an adults-only section if…[a politician points at them and belches] “harmful to minors.”  The Donnelly Library, Penguin Random House and the others [are] suing [because] the law is overly vague and [blatantly] violates the First Amendment rights of students, librarians and other residents by forcing libraries to sequester literary classics like Slaughterhouse-Five and A Clockwork Orange.  It’s the second such lawsuit filed in Idaho.  A coalition of small private schools and libraries sued last summer, and that case is ongoing.  Similar cases have been filed in Arkansas, Iowa, Florida, Texas and other states with laws restricting access to books in libraries or schools…

Crippling Thought (#1467)

Surely you didn’t think they’d be satisfied with only vandalizing libraries and primary schools:

This year, the [sociopath]-controlled Texas Legislature is expected to [undermine] liberal [education] at the state’s public, four-year universities…[by further] ban[ning]…programs [they dislike] and tr[y]ing…to…limit the influence of professors on their [students]…they have vowed to crack down on…free speech on campus.  And they are proposing again to end in-state tuition for undocumented students…and…eliminate tenure…

Murder is illegal in Germany, no matter whether a terrorist’s weapon of choice was otherwise banned or permitted.  –  J.D. Tuccille

Time Warp

The Free Press recently published a bizarrely-anachronistic article that reads like something from the height of “sex trafficking” hysteria, 12 years ago.  If you have the stomach to actually read it, you’ll quickly discover why: both the writer and her primary source are Trumpists, and they blame “America’s fastest-growing criminal industry” (remember when that claim was obligatory in every “sex trafficking” tall tale?) on that Trumpist bugaboo, “Biden’s open border”, which apparently exists in the same fantasy world inhabited by toddler hookers shuttled around the country by pimp gorillas in dog crates to be raped 100 times a day by invisible men.  That source is a wannabe “rescuer” of the MAGA variety, similar to the nut bars in Tennessee who were recently raided by the TBI, or the associated Froot Loops in Arizona who harass aid workers and chase people through the desert.  Stenographer Madeleine Rowley gullibly swallows and regurgitates the self-aggrandizing wanking fantasies, the racist tropes, the bogus statistics and psychobabble, the “gang” copaganda, the asinine bragging of dangerous psychopaths like Grady Judd, etc; the only things missing are “King of the Hill” posturing and the claim that the average “victim” is 13.

The Punitive Mindset (#804)

If there’s anything narrower and meaner than the mind of a prison official, I’m not sure what it might be:

The Texas Department of [Torturing Caged Humans] has banned yet another book in its prisons…this time, it was written by inmates themselves.  TEXAS LETTERS…[is] an ongoing anthology of letters written by [prisoners] detailing their experiences with solitary confinement…The publisher and editor, Damascus James…describes the project as a work that “explores the loss of sanity, humanness, and, oftentimes, hope through the personal writings” of [human being]s who have spent months, years, and sometimes even decades in solitary confinement.  Much of the collection features portrayals of violence from [screws] and grueling accounts of the living conditions…The banning of TEXAS LETTERS was not a surprise for James.  Not only does the Texas prison authority have a reputation for book banning but also for trying to e[uphemize] the term solitary confinement

Torture Chamber (#1441)

The inevitable result of letting sociopathic thugs lock legally-innocent people in filthy cages for long periods of time:

…The[re has been a] spike in deaths at the…Tarrant County [jail since the election of] Sheriff Bill Waybourn…in January 2017…[more than] 65 people have died in [Waybourn’s filthy cages], compared to 25…during the 8-year period that preceded him.  Most of the…[victims were legally innocent], meaning they [were] never…convicted of…[any] crime…[and] his office…appears to be flouting a state law requiring sheriffs to commission outside [cop shop] investigations into all deaths in their jails…Waybourn…blame[s] the deaths on [his victims while]… Tarrant County has paid out millions of dollars to settle lawsuits [due to] horrific treatment of vulnerable people in [his cages]…the largest…involved a [mentally ill] pregnant woman…who deteriorated…for months until she became non-verbal, and eventually gave birth to…a…baby [who] died ten days later…[meanwhile,] Waybourn…[has] cultivated his celebrity status in [the MAGA cult, including going on talk shows and harassing migrants]…despite his county being hundreds of miles from the…border…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1462)

Surveillance beyond the wildest dreams of the Stasi:

German…politicians are responding to an August attack at a festival in Solingen with proposals for knife controls and biometric surveillance.  Given that the country’s already restrictive laws didn’t deter a terrorist from committing violence, it’s not clear why more laws would finally do the trick…The suspect is a 26-year-old Syrian man who was denied asylum and ordered to leave the country; he didn’t…he’s not a law-abiding guy…Would a terrorist…be deterred by stern signs forbidding carrying knives at festivals?…Also proposed is wider use of biometric data, including automated scanning of publicly available photos, audio files, and video on platforms including social media.  Any online information would be considered fair game for German authorities to grab and match against data from protests, crimes, suspects, or…watch lists…the coalition government is keen on expanding mass surveillance even though it was elected in part on a promise to curb such practices

You Were Warned (#1477)

Politicians will use any trick to gain control of the internet:

The U.S. and the U.K. have signed a joint agreement to coordinate efforts to [control the] internet…[using the perennial excuse of] “stronger protections for children”…though…the U.K. [has]…no…free-speech legal tradition or anything like First Amendment jurisprudence …the agreement…[pre]tend[s] that U.S. and U.K. rights and practices can be considered compatible in order to enforce internet [censorship] of materials [politicians in] either…[country point at while belching out] “harmful to children”…according to…the Online Safety Act and the [opinion of]…the Baroness Bertin, [who has had a hand in drafting laws in the US], all adult content would fall into [bannable] categories …By signing the joint agreement, the U.S. appears to endorse…age verification[, which]…has repeatedly been struck down as unconstitutional by U.S. courts…The U.S. domestic legislative proposal most analogous to the OSA is the Kid’s Online Safety Act (KOSA), which is currently stuck in Congress…because of serious constitutional and privacy concerns…

The Cop Myth (#1478)

Cop deals with problems exactly as he was trained & encouraged to, and everyone is shocked:

A [typical and representative] NYPD [cop murdered] his wife before [turning the gun on himself]…Sean…and Arlene O’Neill…[had] three school-age sons [who] were home at the time of the shooting [but were mercifully spared by their murderous father]…Sources [said] the couple [were fighting]…

The Vultures Descend (#1479)

This will keep getting worse until these maniacs are forcibly stopped:

The US…Postal Service…has known for at least the past decade…that foreign-made abortion pills are entering the U.S. and being distributed in quantity without prescription.  FDA regulations hold that this is illegal…[but] days after Roe was overturned in June 2022, the USPIS announced that it would not proactively pursue pill mailers, even in states where abortion was being banned…however…the USPIS does go after people…without medical credentials who mail prescription drugs…so it employs local police dogs and their handlers to check the mail for contraband and provide the probable cause needed to get warrants…Police dogs…are trained to smell only the illegal drugs heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, fentanyl, and cocaine, not the ingredients in abortion pills…[but] canines are exquisitely sensitive to the minutiae of a human’s posture, eye movements, and other subtle behaviors.  Handlers wishing to develop probable cause to do intrusive searches for narcotics can coax their dogs into drug-alerting behavior…Cueing can be deliberate, but it’s more often unconscious…

When you have sex with someone, you give them a part of your soul.  – quoted un-ironically by Time

badge-lickingAfter the events of the last several weeks, a recent article in Time seems bizarrely anachronistic.  Now, long-form articles like this one aren’t written in days, but in weeks; it’s pretty obvious that this one was started on the other side of the watershed, and the passages about Amnesty may have been grafted on as an afterthought.  Because while many reporters these days are beginning to be skeptical of “sex trafficking” lies, this one swallows them like a local-paper stenographer.  While in the wake of the Rentboy raid, most large media outlets are beginning to view the shockingly sexist rhetoric of “sex trafficking” fetishists with more skepticism, Time  instead parrots neofeminist gobbledygook about “prostituted women” and evil men who “exploit” them by offering them pay for services rendered.  And while many stories now quote experts who have actually studied the violence inflicted by cops upon sex workers, this one instead quotes cops as though they weren’t pathological liars and licks badges with a fellatory gusto that is quite nauseating.  The article is much too long and derivative to bother quoting at length, but I would like to focus on a few of the more horrific passages.

The first subsection sets the tone by mindlessly repeating prohibitionist claims without an investigation whatsoever.  Even the slightest bit of research, for example, would have revealed the egregious lie behind Tom Dart’s “end demand” pogroms:  while the claim is that Tom Dart’s Chicago police operations now concentrate on clients and “help” sex workers, in fact felony convictions for sex workers have increased 68% since the start of the program, and now make up 97% of all prostitution-related felony convictions in Cook County. Furthermore, while it pays lip service to the recognition that transwomen are disproportionately represented among sex workers, it doesn’t mention Dart’s vile practice of charging trans sex workers as clients to boost the appearance of “ending demand”.  It relies heavily on stigmatizing language like “some men…grasp at the sexual cornucopia they think they are owed” to generate anti-client feelings, despite the obvious illogic in the idea that people who seek to buy a thing actually think they are “owed” that thing.  And it revels in the degradation of men who are treated as criminals for seeking consensual sex, an approach that would be vilified if it were discussing busts of gay men in bathhouses.

The next section is propaganda for the Swedish model on which “end demand” is based, but like all pro-Swedish articles does not mention that violence vs sex workers increases under that model; furthermore, it pretends that Dart’s “CEASE network” is an independent association of cities, when in fact it is merely a front for a private organization, “Demand Abolition”, run and funded by morally-warped multi-billionaire Swanee Hunt.  It also fails to mention that those who have attacked Amnesty’s support for decriminalization are not sex workers or objective researchers, but moralistic ideologues committed to suppressing the truth about the harm caused by the Swedish model, ideologues who repeatedly mischarachterize the model as “decriminalization” in order to fool the uninformed into thinking sex workers, Amnesty and other human rights organizations support it.  And as usual, it conflates legalization with decriminalization, then touts the problems of the former (which virtually no sex workers support) as though they occurred under the latter.

Tom Dart on fireNo article lionizing the revolting Tom Dart could be complete without praising his campaign against Backpage, which of course ignores the terrifying constitutional and practical implications of allowing a local politician to make decisions affecting not only the whole US, but the entire world...including countries in which prostitution is perfectly legal. And though it quotes Amnesty about the violence of some clients vs. sex workers, it totally ignores the far greater problem of police violence – including rape – against sex workers in criminalized and legalized regimes.  But of course, this makes perfect sense; if one is going to publish propaganda, one can’t be distracted by facts.  And if one’s going to publish a hagiography of a monster, one’s going to have to ignore or misrepresent the various evils and tyrannies for which he is responsible.
