You want to film something, bitch? Film this! – Nathan Church
Well, I got my computer back Monday, and was exceptionally pleased to see that my wizard of a technician managed to recover everything! I was also pleased to see that when I reconstructed both of last weekend’s columns I had only forgotten two items in each one, and now that they’ve been safely inserted into this weekend’s columns I suppose I can say I’m officially caught up (though I’m still scrambling to get a couple of weeks ahead on my daily columns as I prefer). This week Jesse Walker edged out Radley Balko for the top spot, so everything above the first video is Jesse’s, while the first three below the video are Radley’s. The video itself was made by Commander Chris Hadfield on the International Space Station and provided by Mike Siegel, while the second video was made by Harvey Silverglate and provided by Mistress Matisse. The links below Radley’s were contributed by Chi Mgbako, Amy Alkon, Lenore Skenazy, Furry Girl, and Jack Shafer (in that order), and the last three by John David Galt (“Dubai”), Kevin Wilson (“freedom”) and Walter Olson (“dead fish”).

Well, I got all 13 of the science questions right but screwed up the demographic questions…
Apparently, I am part of the 7%, and I only had to lie once.
Tee Hee!
You meant the “most scientists” question, right?
Got it in one.
It was a question about the scientists’ beliefs, not yours, so giving the answer they were looking for isn’t a lie regardless of what you believe on the facts at hand. They didn’t ask about magnitude, so whether or not you think it’s a MAJOR contributor doesn’t even matter – CO2 is a bigger contributor than any of the other 3.
On the Principality of Hutt – kudos!
My uncle, under FDR’s agricultural machinations in the 30’s had to plow under all but 3 furrows of cotton, slaughter 30 percent of his pigs and a majority of his milk cows. They were not even allowed to reclaim the slaughtered animals for dogfood, let alone human consumption. They had to bury them. I suppose they could have
exploited them for fertilizer as that use was not specifically forbidden.
Funny thing, though. The larger farms and the politically connected didn’t have to submit to such draconian edicts. I wonder why that was…
Yes, some people are remarkably flexible! Although I think that the writer must have been on a raised platform for the belly crawl and I’m sure that the gov’t thug had a foot rest for boot kissing. Mustn’t fatique these gov’t types, I mean, after all, they’re just doing what they have to do to get home to their families alive. So, with these enhancements, a capacity for blind-typing or a heads-up display, this government boot licker/belly crawler could reasonably pull this off.
So, basically, DOJ targeted AP journalists because they “scooped” the Whitehouse press conference. Nice to know just how important Jay Carney is to the President. Reminds me of the BATF raid on Waco for the purpose of buttressing that agency’s request for additional funding at an upcoming budget hearing. Both of these instances are the result of institutional narcissism where the implicit premise is, “The rights of the people be damned. We’ve got a budget hearing or a press conference to worry about!”
There’s a lot of other scandals that are more worthy of attention than this AP thing imo.
The press is complicit in the usurpation of power by the OBAMA administration. This is really a case of two groups of Marxists going at each other.
The one to pay attention to is the IRS scandal. THAT is the one that has overturned the First Amendment to the Constitution.
And ya know what? Liberals and Press Weenies alike will blow that scandal off because it was conservative groups that were targeted. Like it matters WHAT kind of thought was targeted.
You can say what you want about how the government has usurped power from the people – but we, the people, allowed it to happen. In some cases – like in this IRS scandal – many of “us” even applauded it as it happened.
I agree that the IRS issue is much more egregious. And that the press will do its level best to sweep it aside. You know that if GWB had done this it would have been the lede every night for weeks if not longer.
What I was marveling at, though, was the sheer pettiness of the administration, going after people because they’d been scooped. Do your enemies no small injuries – Machiavelli
It’s just amazing to me what sheep we’ve become. We let the government get away with any damn thing it wishes to do – including murdering U.S. citizens.
My advice to Tea Party groups is remove the word “Patriot” from your lexicon. Patriotism to this abomination of a government is no virtue.
This scandal will be ignored – there will be no justice – and then some Tea Party guy is going to go vigilante and extract the justice that is denied.
Amazing to me is that these idiots in government are so stupid. Ignoring this particular scandal GUARANTEES – eventually, that something much worse will happen in response to it if justice is denied.
Again, I’d question whether this scandal is being ‘ignored,’ at least at this moment, because the opposition is latching onto anything and everything they think can damage Obama. And what would constitute justice in this particular case?
That goes back to my other point that the Tea Party needs to decide whether they’re fighting “Marxist” Obama or fighting for a better government as a whole.
I am only speaking from a personal standpoint, but who exactly is ‘applauding’ the IRS? I thought it was an almost universally hated institution. And were any organizations actually stopped from coming into existence or pushing their message thanks to the IRS?
I’m inclined to agree that perhaps those groups should drop the word “Patriot” as you suggest below. However, I would take it a step further and suggest that these groups stop giving the impression that the usurpation, as you put it, only started with Obama’s inauguration. Obama may be a lot of things, but how, exactly, is he a Marxist? What exactly has he done that Bush (and presidents before that) wasn’t already doing? People on the left are already rending their garments because Obama wasn’t the knight in shining armor they believed him to be.
I think more progress would be made if it was made clear that the beef is not with any current administration. That’s too easily dismissed as mere partisanship. If there was someone who could articulate, without bashing any past or present President or descending into conspiracy theories, just what the matter is with our system as it currently exists, I’d bet they would get much farther than Palin, Bachmann, the Pauls, etc., ever did.
I’d nominate Maggie….
I don’t know how it was elsewhere but the tea party types I talked to at the original protest on tax day were just as pissed at GWB – Patriot Act, Medicare part D, McCain Feingold, etc. Most of them were of the opinion that even had McCain beaten BHO that the only difference would have been the expansion of gov’t abuses in different areas than those targeted by BHO. The Republican establishment is not well-loved by Tea Party types and their disgust with the Republicans is greater than their disgust with the Democrats, because, by their lights, Republicans ought to know better. They don’t of course, or rather, their corruption is just as egregious as the Democrats, they’re just less skilled in covering it up.
I was subpoenaed by an FBI agent and had to go down to their office. I noticed the signs forbidding active recording devices on FBI premises but didn’t understand them. Now I do.
I think that it is indicative of the morality of our ruling class that they would allow this sham to continue. But then, cops that “lose” dash cam recordings are merely doing the same thing and they get off without reprimand, so I guess the ruling class finds it very convenient.
Let’s be clear about where that advice comes from – it comes from DOCTORS – “Scientists”, if you will – who’ve whored their professional ethics out to government. No – it’s not all Doctors, but the doctors who are out there making these bullshit claims aren’t being opposed by any significant number of other “honest” Doctors so I throw the pox on the entire house.
I don’t use Doctors. I boycott them. They’re like cops to me – I’ll consider calling one when I’m shit out of luck and have no other option in the universe remaining.
People need to take charge of their own health advice. They need to research and not just blindly follow the advice of doctors.
I use a nurse practitioner – she is not a doctor – and she’s open minded. I got bloodwork back this week, and my nurse practitioner was amazed at how low my cholesterol was. I told her … “Susan, there’s a history of heart disease in my family and I eat anywhere from 6 – 12 eggs a day … try to have a ribeye steak EVERY night, and I rarely eat anything with fiber in it.” Not exactly a low-cholesterol diet. So how is my cholesterol that low? The reason is – I don’t follow the herd-advice of Doctors.
People need to wake up – we’ve been following “Doctor Advice” for decades now and, in the Western World – we’re just getting more and more out of shape and unhealthy. There’s another study out that explains that testosterone levels 50 years ago were higher across the board for all age groups of men. “Doctors” try to blame lowering hormone levels on shit like pollution – even though this planet is a lot cleaner than it was when I was growing up. The reason testosterone levels are decreasing in men – is because they’re following this high-fiber bullshit the “Doctors” are giving them. High-fiber diets flush hormones – in both men and women. Oh and … again … how high was my testosterone? Both total and free test came backed flagged “HIGH”. LOL – I’m in my 50’s!!
I’ve been running BackupPC on my home network for years now and it has been incredibly valuable in recovering from disk crashes. The online documentation is pretty good and a moderately computer literate person should be able to set it up in an hour or so.
Time Machine also works well, and can be set up in about 1 minute.
The map that accompanies Ronald Bailey’s article is proof positive that economic freedom and social freedom definitely do not coincide.
Thanks for providing it.
I got 12 of 13 on the science quiz…
I thought hydrogen, not nitrogen was the most common gas in the atmosphere…
You were probably thinking of the fact that hydrogen is the most common element in the universe, and the most common gas in the sun‘s atmosphere. 🙂
that must’ve been it…
Links. I’ll come back to it.
