I knew this day would come; I just didn’t expect it to come anything like this. There is just no way I can get a column out on time today. After driving all day Wednesday and spending all day yesterday at the hospital trying to navigate the Byzantine complexities of the medical admissions system, I am exhausted and desperately in need of sleep. As regular readers know I’ve been staying with Jae in her hospital room for weeks, sleeping in an uncomfortable chair/bed thing and being awakened repeatedly throughout the night as she gets up or needs something; I’m totally worn out. Tonight Savannah Sly volunteered to stay with her, so I’ve just come home for some much-needed shuteye (until the next doctor has a question I need to answer) and I just can’t spare the time to write the post I intended to write, which will now appear Monday. So forgive me for my first miss, dear readers; I promise not to make a habit of it.
It Had To Happen

Very understandable Maggie, no need to worry, I’m sure your readers get the picture. You have to look after yourself as well.No good making oneself ill too! Kind regards from a reader in England.
Mykter
Actually you still managed to get a column out today even if it wasn’t the one you intended! I’ve been in hospitals before and know what a hassle they are – Jae is very lucky to have you there to look after her. I dread the idea of laying unconscious and not having any control over what would be happening to me.
Now that you’re back home you should be able to get some sleep, after all a hospital is definitely the last place anybody can sleep with nurses coming in during the night and all.
Your sense of responsibility is incredible. There’s no reason that you should ask for forgiveness, but thank you for what you did post. Many of us would have been more concerned about you if we didn’t see anything from Maggie in the morning. Have a great weekend.
Just to piggyback on what Jack said, I seriously doubt any of your readers would be upset if a day passed where you didn’t post a column. Especially considering the current circumstances.
You didn’t miss a post. You posted a compelling account of the difficulties involved in dealing with the crisis of a seriously injured loved one.
There is nothing to forgive. There is everything to praise, beginning with your making first priority the care of your beloved Jae.
I can’t imagine maintaining the researching / writing / posting schedule you do under the best of circumstances and having time for anything else, let alone after this already very long ordeal. Thank you for the picture(s) and updates and for caring for Jae’s physical / emotional / spiritual health. I hope we can help in some way in the months ahead. We love her and are so grateful for and inspired by her survival and your loving presence in it.
Don’t worry about it Maggie, we love you.
Dear Maggie:
Although you are caring for a dear friend, I was just wondering is it effecting your abilities to participate in your livelyhood as well as other speaking engagements that you might have?
I couldn’t work while I was in Idaho, but the awesomeness of the Whore Nation provided for us. Now I’m back in Seattle, and available for appointments again; once Jae is out of the hospital it may get a little harder to schedule appointments, but for now it’s business as usual.
