Ah, Stairway to Gilligan’s Island, one of the better investments I never made.
Back in 1978 a record store near me got a stack of 100 Little Roger’s Splash 45 rpm records. They wanted $1 each. I saw them, listened to one, and thought it was the coolest record I’d heard in a while.
But I didn’t buy even one. Don’t know why. Today, that stack of 100 virgin 45s would be worth about $7500, if e8ay listings are representative.
Lyrics to Gilligan’s Island and Stairway to heaven are in classical ballad stanza meter: 1st and 3rd lines iambic tetrameter (sometimes trimeter), 2nd and 4th iambic trimeter. So are The Yellow Rose of Texas, House of the Rising Sun and Amazing Grace.
