Just because [a surveillance experiment] happens at the border doesn’t mean that that’s where it’s going to stay.  –  Petra Molnar

If Men Were Angels

Apparently this preacher wasn’t the molester, but is covering for him:

A [North Carolina] pastor [named Kenny Parker] is facing charges [because] he failed to report…a string of sexual assault[s of legal] minors that spanned…several years…Parker is also the chief administrator of the church’s school…

Creepy Coppers

One of the people the government empowers to police your sexuality:

A[n Illinois cop named]…William Griswold…[has been arrested] for [possession and distribution of] child pornography…and…was immediately placed on unpaid leave…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1235)

Undermining of civil liberties only starts with “undesirables”; it never stops there:

…DHS…plans to collect and analyze photos of the faces of migrant children at the border in a bid to improve facial recognition technology…This includes children “down to the infant”…Facial recognition…has traditionally not been applied to children, largely because training data sets of real children’s faces…consist of either low-quality images drawn from the internet or small sample sizes with little diversity…[due to] the significant [ethical issues] regarding privacy and consent when it comes to minors…[but] DHS [doesn’t give a damn about the consent of migrants and]…339,234 children arrived at the US-Mexico border in 2022…if the face prints of even 1% of those children had been [scanned], the resulting data set would dwarf nearly all existing data sets of real children’s faces…and [all obtained]…from a population that has little recourse…Petra Molnar, author of The Walls Have Eyes: Surviving Migration in the Age of AI [said]…“if…you are faced with the impossible choice of either: get into a country if you give us your biometrics, or you don’t…That completely vitiates informed consent”…This question becomes even more challenging when it comes to children…

A Broker in Pillage (#1289)

Burying government in lawsuits is the only way to slow its depredations:

A new class action lawsuit [was filed because] Indiana [cop shops steal]…millions of dollars a year in cash from FedEx packages without eve[n] in[vent]ing…a…crime [to accuse the owners of].  Henry and Minh Cheng, who run a small California jewelry wholesaler business, [explain] in [the]…suit…that [cops stole] over $42,000 in cash from a FedEx package en route to them from a client in Virginia…[but] they’re not the only victims…Indiana [cops] “exploit Indianapolis’s location at the Crossroads of America to [steal] millions of dollars in currency being shipped from one side of the nation to the other.”  The Chengs’ countersuit against the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and the State of Indiana was filed on their behalf by the Institute for Justice…Marion County [alone] has s[tolen] $2.5 million…from at least 130 FedEx parcels in transit from one non-Indiana state to another over the past two years…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1301)

Sometimes I just can’t force myself to take cops’ sophomoric pomposity seriously:

[Michigan] Sheriff Chris Swanson [dressed up in a sheet with two holes cut in it and jumped out, yelling “BOO!” at a typical and representative Florida cop named]…Jeffrey Morningstar…Swanson [bragged about how spooky he and his cronies were, pretending to be a (presumably deceased)]…trafficker selling a 15-year-old…Morningstar…want[ed] to…have sex with [for a thrift-store price]…“W[oooooooo, aren’t you scared?”]…Swanson [demanded, claiming] that [he plans to keep running around, startling]…anyone…he [can]…find…

Thou Shalt Not (#1353)

Only a prohibitionist could imagine that examining 10 people constitutes a “study”:

Consuming a drink with erythritol — an artificial sweetener used to add bulk to stevia and monk fruit [sweeteners] and to sweeten low-carb keto products — more than doubled the risk of blood clotting in 10 healthy people…Previous research has linked erythritol to a higher risk of stroke, heart attack and death…Consuming a drink with an equal amount of glucose, or sugar, did not affect blood platelet activity in another group of 10 people…

Dangerous Speech (#1368)

Much more of this, please:

A [typical and representative] Kansas police chief who led a raid last year on a weekly newspaper has been charged with felony obstruction of justice…Gideon Cody…[led] the raid [in retaliation for] the Marion County Record [investigating the fact that he was hired despite resigning in disgrace from his previous job due to incompetence and shitty behavior]…Publisher Eric Meyer’s mother, who co-owned the newspaper and lived with him, died the next day of a heart attack…[due] the stress of [armed pigs invading her home].  Meyer said…authorities appear to be making Cody the “fall guy” for the raid when numerous officials were involved…The Record…and [some of its] staffers have filed four federal lawsuits against Cody and [his gang]…includ[ing] a wrongful death claim [for] total damages exceed[ing] $10 million.  The city’s current annual budget is about $9.5 million…

It is increasingly less safe to be pregnant.  –  Dara Kass

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Funny how many cops who are willing to pay prefer underage girls:

A [typical and representative] Las Vegas [cop] is accused of…paying [underage girls for]…sex…Harvey Velazquez…faces 21 charges…and…[w]as…fired [after somebody snitched on him]…Velazquez admitted to [the charges]…and…[his fellow gang members searched] Velazquez’s phone, finding text messages [that supported the charges]…

Stalkers in Blue

Sleeping with a cop is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do:

A Bridgeport[, West Virginia cop named] William Townsend [was arrest]ed [for] stalking and harassing his ex-wife and her new boyfriend…from July 2023 through April 2024, Townsend has “repeatedly engaged in a course of conduct” that has caused his ex’s new boyfriend to fear for his safety…Townsend…parked [his pigmobile outside her apartment] behind her boyfriend’s vehicle while…sending…“vulgar sexually-related messages” referencing her and her new boyfriend…Townsend also called [the man] a “child molester,” harassed the couple in person at…school [events]…threatened a criminal investigation of the [man] and his friend and made numerous [slanderous] comments to their children about [him] as well…

Feudalism Redux (#1390)

If you need a law like this to control your teen offspring, you’ve already lost them:

…If a [legal minor] is raped by their parent, Idaho medical providers now require th[e rapist]’s permission to administer the rape kit that would prove their own guilt.  Preventing young people from receiving medical care of their own accord has long been a priority for [Idaho] Republicans…[who] brought that…to fruition this July…after a national [authoritarian] push to keep young people from receiving gender-affirming medical care…

The Cop Myth (#1403)

41% of cops admit to beating their wives; some don’t stop with mere beating:

[A] Maricopa County A[rizona cop named]…John C. Byrd…[was arrested for the] murder…[of his] wife, Elizabeth Byrd, [on July 31st after]…A woman told police that Elizabeth failed to show up for a gym class that they always attended together and…had contacted Elizabeth’s 11-year-old son via text and learned that…he…and his two [younger] siblings…had not seen their mother all day and that her bedroom door was locked…[cops] found the wife dead [of strangulation] on her bedroom floor…Byrd [confessed to the crime when arrested.  Ironically,] Byrd…worked in the Family Violence Bureau…

Panopticon (#1448)

Note that little word “yet”:

[Washington] D.C. …[cops] will start using drones in [many more] situations to try to [subj]ect residents [to even more surveillance using the typical cop excuse of “]crime[” while the city also] adds hundreds of closed-circuit TV cameras and license plate readers…Chief of Police Pamela Smith said…“We will not be…using facial recognition with the drones yet”…The ACLU’s executive director [said]…”The growing use of surveillance technology by law enforcement agencies without limits, transparency, and accountability is deeply concerning…and…does not have sufficient guardrails to ensure our privacy”…

Vulture Watching (#1462)

Oh look, the totally-predictable results of bad laws are happening just as sane people said they would:

Even as the Biden administration publicly warned hospitals to treat pregnant patients in emergencies, facilities continue to violate the federal law…[since] the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the constitutional right to an abortion more than two years ago.  More than 100 pregnant women in medical distress who sought help from emergency rooms were turned away or negligently treated since 2022…Two women – one in Florida and one in Texas – were left to miscarry in public restrooms.  In Arkansas, a woman went into septic shock and her fetus died after an emergency room sent her home.  At least four other women with ectopic pregnancies had trouble getting any treatment, including one California woman who needed a blood transfusion after she sat for nine hours in an emergency waiting room.  [EMTALA] says hospitals must offer abortions when needed to save a woman’s health, despite state bans.  Texas [says women should be left to die if their doctors guess wrong]…and…the Supreme Court declined to resolve the issue

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #13)

Cops should not be allowed anywhere near legal minors:

…a M[ississippi cop named]…Kevin Michael Boyd was [rewarded with a paid vacation after his]…arrest…[for] statutory rape [of] a 12-year-old girl…[after her parents reported him on] May 16…

I would rather be dead than ever go back.  –  victim of ALA

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1136)

Laws are for the peasantry, not the rulers:

A [typical and representative] North Dakota [politician] who was one of the most powerful members of the Legislature [will] plead guilty…in federal court to traveling to Europe with the intent to pay for sex with a minor.  Ray Holmberg…was indicted in October 2023…and…will…have to register as a sex offender…

A Broker in Pillage (#1276)

South Carolina is one of the most flagrant abusers of this unconstitutional practice:

In Spartanburg County, South Carolina, on Interstate 85, [cop]s stop vehicles for…any infraction, no matter how minor…lead[ing] to a roadside interrogation and warrantless search…the [sophomorically-entitled “Operation Rolling Thunder” has been committed] every year since 2006, yet no one has ever done a systematic audit…It took a lawsuit to finally pry the records loose…Over 72 percent of vehicle searches during [the scheme] in 2022 produced nothing illegal.  Officers routinely treated innocent drivers like criminals…[and] currency as contraband.  The records describe no single case in which officers found a large amount of cash and did not seize it…[they] pressured property owners to sign roadside abandonment forms, giving up claims to their cash on the spot…Officers focused on vehicles with out-of-state plates, rental cars, and commercial buses.  Over 83 percent of the [victims]…lived out of state…and 75 percent…were black…[the armed-robber cops] do not create incident reports for every search.  They only document their “wins”…[so there are] no records for 102 of the 144 searches that occurred during [the scheme] in 2022…This leaves government watchdogs in the dark—by design.  They cannot inspect public records that do not exist.  Victims cannot cite them in litigation…

Don’t Call It Trafficking (#1387)

The entire “troubled teen” industry needs to be sued out of existence:

There is a highly lucrative, multibillion-dollar market of residential “behaviour modification programmes”…in the US, where an estimated 50,000 children [and teenagers] are [sent] by their parents…against their will every year.  All operate in closely guarded secrecy.  There are more than a hundred in Utah alone, but some are based offshore in remote, low-regulation, low-cost foreign locations such as Samoa, Costa Rica, Mexico and Caribbean islands…[they are condemned to these camps] for bunking off school, wearing inappropriate clothes, swearing, [or using] cigarettes or alcohol…a sizeable number [are]…adopted by parents who had then changed their minds…many [we]re had been diagnosed [by quacks] with oppositional defiant disorder, whose symptoms…[are] indistinguishable from typical adolescent behaviour…boys aged 14-18 confined in [Atlantis Leadership Academy, or ALA, raided by Jamaican officials in February]…had been starved, waterboarded and brutally beaten with broom handles, rakes, belts and metal water bottles…sleep-deprived and relentlessly insulted…bleach and salt [were] rubbed in their wounds; others…were [brutally assaulted,] threatened with knives and kept in solitary confinement for months on end…

Panopticon (#1429)

“Prostitution” is such a handy excuse for surveillance:

Moral panic about sex work leads to law enforcement practices that reach far beyond anyone engaged in or with erotic labor.  The latest example comes from San Diego…where cops are putting up a creepy surveillance tower under the auspice of stopping…prostitution…[by] record[ing] video of anyone who happens to be in the area…even if you think that punishing prostitution customers (or sex workers themselves) is a swell idea, it’s hard to see how the surveillance tower makes any sense…the tower is very visible and local media have been publicizing it.  Smart sex workers and their customers will simply move to another, less visible area…It seems clear that th[is]…is…just a way for authorities to look like they’re doing something about sex trafficking while further normalizing the idea of conducting broad, warrantless surveillance of everyone…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1432)

Phrenology for tech worshipers:

Michal Kosinski…has made…plausible[-sounding] claims that machine-learning algorithms…can discern deeply private things about us — our intelligence, our sexual preferences, our political beliefs — using little more than…photographs of our faces…Science has been trying to divine truths about personality and behavior from various tests and images for centuries…Phrenologists used calipers to measure bumps on people’s heads, hoping to diagnose mental incapacities or moral deficiencies…none of these “sciences” worked…[and] every time someone claimed they’d found a way to measure people’s inner traits based on their exterior features, it quickly turned into a tool to discriminate…Yet today…facial recognition continue[s] to be…abused…in everything from marketing and job hiring to college admissions and law enforcement…

Opting Out (#1438)

Politicians refuse to recognize that prohibition of speech, ie censorship, is as doomed to failure as other kinds of prohibition:

As riots rock…Britain, some [politicians] are trying to blame social media…[rather than the] government policy…[causing] the country’s civil unrest…they…want social media companies to ban [any] user accounts [politicians point at, calling this indirect censorship]…”their responsibilities”…Ofcom, the British…[censorship bureau], has already [harass]ed social media companies…about online speech, in…the name of “safety”…Making businesses liable for speech that is not their own is fraught with [wholly]…intended consequences…[by] strongly incentiviz[ing] those businesses to remove any content that could invite legal scrutiny…allowing [government] control over online discourse without the messy optics of jailing citizens for wrongthink…

The Cop Myth (#1446)

Why are people shocked when men paid and encouraged to behave violently, behave violently?

An…Atlanta [cop was]…arrested [for murdering] a man…outside of a…bar during a birthday party…Melvin Potter…[shot] Devon Anderson…to [death after he] tried to de-escalate [an] argument…[between the drunk] Potter…[and another partygoer.  Potter]…was [previously] arrested on DUI charges in 2021…but [as is typical for drunk-driving cops escaped without consequences]…

When a movement reaches a point of threat, the powers that be begin actively trying to scare them out of existence.  –  Dan Berger

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Apparently, this wasn’t a rape attempt, just a cop being a dumbass:

A San Diego [cop named]…Anthony Hair…arrested [a woman] on suspicion of stealing a car outside a convenience store…She also had a bench warrant out for her arrest…In bodycam footage released by the SDPD, [s]he…was heard…off[ering him] sex [in exchange for letting her go, saying]…“What’s it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean? That’s the way I see shit”…Hair turned off his bodycam and [parked in] a residential street, the[n]…about 20 minutes later…called for a[nother member of his gang] to help him out of the p[igmobile because he had accidentally locked himself into the back seat while collecting his bribe]…Hair [tried to claim that he was there because he] believed the woman was suffering from a medical emergency…[but] police found traces of semen on Hair’s belt…

Down Under

Kaytlin Bailey on the realities of sex work Down Under:

What does decriminalized sex work look like in practice?  People in…New South Wales…and New Zealand know the answer, because they decriminalized sex work decades ago.  I recently spent six weeks touring my one-woman show, Whore’s Eye View, in Australia and New Zealand, where I met sex workers, clients, and brothel owners who negotiate sexual services openly without fear of arrest.  After my shows, people from the sex industry—both workers and clients—stayed to tell me their stories…Decriminalization has reduced violence and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and it has made it easier for sex workers to hold people accountable who try to hurt them…

The Face of Trafficking

Note that cases of actual coercion don’t look much like the myths:

Ikbahl Singh Machhal…and [his mother] Shila Devi…were bound over to stand trial…on…Human Trafficking [charges]..for…forc[ing Machal’s wife] to move from Pennsylvania to Michigan when…Devi [bought a convenience store]…in Michigan…[they forced her to] work…at the…store…[without] pay…for…8 to 9 hours a day, 7 days a week, against her will and under threat of severe physical, mental, and emotional abuse…for approximately 8 years [starting in 2012] until the victim [fled] with the assistance of…a…domestic violence char[ity]…

To Molest and Rape

Rapist cops often specifically target vulnerable women:

A [typical and representative Indianapolis cop named]…Myron Howard…ha[s] been…[arrested and] charged…with rape…and various other [associated crimes after specifically targeting]…a domestic violence [victim]…after [her] boyfriend was arrested…Howard [returned to her]…house [after the other cops left and threatened her with jail if she refused]…him…he rep[ea]tedly [harassed her via text]…messaging…[over the next] month…[so] she [eventually gathered the courage to]…report…[him].  When interviewed by detectives, Howard admitted to [fuck]ing…the woman…but [claimed] she had [not only wanted it but initiated it]…He also [absurdly claimed that] “ladies hit on me a lot”, and…admitted [to raping other women, but pretended] that…[the] victims [had wanted it those times as well]…IMPD Chief Bailey [barfed up nonsense about how this typical and representative cop was not representative]…

The Cop Myth (#1403)

Most coverage of this story hides the fact that the abuser was a screw:  “A [Connecticut screw named David Martins] died by suicide [after beating his wife]…on [May 25th.  Fortunately the wife’s]… injuries [were] not considered life-threatening…

Stalkers in Blue (#1408)

Cops are nothing more than state-sponsored terrorists:

Atlanta police have been carrying out around-the-clock surveillance in several neighborhoods for months, on people and houses linked to opposition against the police training center colloquially known as “Cop City”.  The surveillance…has included following people in cars, blasting sirens outside bedroom windows and shining headlights into houses at night…The ongoing actions started soon after an 8 February pre-dawn, Swat-style raid on three…houses in which [pigs] and [ATF spooks]…sought evidence relating to arson of construction and police equipment…Social movement historian Dan Berger said this low-tech type of surveillance and related behavior – blasting sirens and flashing lights, following people – has precedence dating at least to the civil rights era.  He called the actions “naked intimidation with plausible deniability attached to it”…

No Escape (ROTW #11)

Once again: it does not help young victims of state violence to infantilize them as “children”.

Dozens of [legal minors] suffered physical and sexual abuse including violent rapes inside juvenile [prison]s and similar facilities in Pennsylvania, according to four related lawsuits..[which] describe how 66 people, now adults…were victimized by guards, nurses, supervisors and others…attacks [that] were reported…were ignored or met with disbelief…Jerome Block, who…[filed the suits]…has also pursued similar lawsuits in Illinois, MarylandNew Jersey and Michigan

To Molest and Rape

The sleazy “confidential informant” system enables corruption and abuse:

A [Texas woman has filed a] federal lawsuit…against a [typical and representative cop named] Terry Fountain [describes how he used outstanding]…warrants and charges [against her to demand she submit to repeated rape and other abuses, starting in late 2017, under the guise of using her as a stool pigeon]…in addition to the [serial rape], Fountain demanded that she move…in order to be closer to him [so as to facilitate more frequent rape.  He also demanded]…sexually explicit images…[and] phone…sex…[and demanded she] buy drugs for him…he also coerced other acquaintances of hers into [submitting to rape]…by January 2023…[she finally] realized that Fountain had no intention of helping her and that…the warrants he [used against] her about were no longer active…

The Cop Myth (#1295)

Cop fails upward into a career in politics:

[Politician] Jon Stone’s New Hampshire [cop] career ended when he threatened to kill fellow [cops] in a shooting spree, and murder his chief after raping the chief’s wife and children, all while he was already under scrutiny for his inappropriate relationship with a teen girl…Stone [has managed to get himself]…elected [twice by]…fighting to keep [internal] reports secret for years.  Last month, the New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled that Stone could not block their release in response to [a] reporter’s 2020 right-to-know request, ending years of legal challenges…The documents portray Stone in 2006 as an out-of-control and unstable man who…had a reputation for being aggressive on the job and had already been disciplined for assaulting a mentally disabled man during an arrest…But the investigation into his inappropriate relationship with a…High School girl, started when she was 15, brought out a violent and deranged side of Stone that [caused fellow cop Jesse Vezina]…to [say,] “If he gets fired, people are afraid he will go postal…people think he is crazy and wonder why he is a police officer”…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1301)

They really can’t stop themselves:

A [typical and representative Florida cop] who was arrested and fired in 2022 for [interacting with another cop fantasy role-playing as a 14-year-old girl], is now facing charges in a second, new case…Jarrod Eldridge [appears to have fallen for another cop fantasy role-playing as a teenager online]…on Feb. 15…

No Escape

They often try to make it sound like the prisoners consented:

A [typical and representative North Dakota screw named] Anthony Aadland…faces felony charges for…sexually assaulting two female [prisoner]s…including [rape]s in areas without cameras such as the attorney’s room…

Creepy Coppers (#1410)

One of the people the government empowers to police your sexuality:

A [typical and representative Michigan cop] is now facing felony charges for…videotaping [his stepdaughter* naked]…Joseph Fornier…[used hidden spy cameras] for…years…[but] was fired [for] refusing to comply with an internal investigation…[rather than for the voyeurism, which was reported to cops by] his wife [when she] filed a personal protection order against him in February…

*I’m guessing about the identity of his victim, because the story absurdly refers to her only as “a family member”, but his wife reacted by leaving him.  The vague “in a sexual way” appears to mean “nude”.

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #8)

Well, this is different:

A [sow named Selena Perez, who was assigned to spy on, harass, and intimidate students] at a California middle school was arrested for [molesting a female] minor…under 14 years old…

We need to…finally pursue drug policies that help people instead of incarcerating them.  –  Scott Wiener

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

It’s deeply satisfying to see cops preying upon each other:

…Charlotte [North Carolina cops arrested]…a state trooper [named]…Jeffrey Scott Salyer f[or]…misdemeanor…charges [of hiring a sex worker] and one felony count of [getting a blow job]…on Dec. 23…Salyer resigned that same day…

Follow the Leader

Note that as a cop and screw, Conklin was legally allowed to treat strangers and their kids in exactly this same way:

…a [typical and representative] Arizona [screw and his wife violently]…abus[ed] their 10 children…Kelly [and Melissa] Conklin [were found out] after two of their boys ran away by jumping out of their bedroom window…[and spoke] with…other [cops]…In one instance…the…father…grabbed [a] child…[in a chokehold, then] slammed him to the ground…[and locked] him in handcuffs…he …had [previously] slammed [the same boy’s] face into the gravel, punched him, banged his head, then choked him to the point that he blacked out…The boy also said that he had been beaten…by his father using handcuffs…the [boys’] room locks from the outside, [so] they must use a doorbell to ask to leave the room…they sleep on the floor, because there is no bed for them.  In another instance, [Conklin pulled a knife on] one of the girls…and held her to the wall…after one child [was left with] a black eye [from the abuse]…Conklin…pulled a gun and threatened the other kids…telling them they needed to lie to DCS about [it]…

A Moral Cancer (#1157)

As I’ve been telling you since 2012:

[Shoddy] studies have been linking red meat consumption to health problems like heart disease, stroke, and cancer for years.  But…nearly all the research is observational, unable to tease out causation convincingly.  Most are plagued by confounding variables…[and] are based on self-reported consumption…lastly, the reported effect sizes in these scientific papers are often [too] small…[to be] really worth worrying about…In a new, unprecedented effort, scientists at the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) scrutinized decades of research on red meat…formulating a new rating system to communicate health risks in the process…“We found weak evidence of association between unprocessed red meat consumption and colorectal cancer, breast cancer, type 2 diabetes and ischemic heart disease.  Moreover, we found no evidence of an association between unprocessed red meat and ischemic stroke or hemorrhagic stroke,” they summarized

To Molest and Rape (#1181)

An earlier report identified only 245, until somebody dug deeper:

More than 400 Scottish [cops] have been reported to their bosses [due to] serious misconduct…sexual assault[, or rape]…Police Scotland commissioned an internal review following the rape, kidnap and murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everard in March 2021, by [London cop] Wayne Couzens.  The report showed that Police Scotland had recorded 410 [complaints] over four years…around 118 of the 410 were “assessed [by bureaucrats] as criminal” with the remaining 292 classed as “non-criminal”, which saw 44 [cops] resign or retire “during proceedings” [to escape the consequences of their actions]…

If Men Were Angels (#1251)

“Youth pastors” of a feather flock together:

…David Shagena was a youth leader at The River Church [in Port Huron, Michigan] when [he molested at least four] minors…Shagena’s name was brought up while [cops] were investigating another [typical and representative] youth pastor, William Stefan Wahl…

Torture Chamber (Rapist Roundup)

Your “leaders” refer to rape as “correction”:

A guard at a California…prison [for women] is under investigation after the state [finally decided to listen to] more than 22 [women who reported that]…Gregory Rodriguez [had raped them]…

Winding Down (#1289)

When will the federal government finally read the writing on the wall?

Colorado voters last month approved a groundbreaking ballot initiative that decriminalized five psychedelics derived from fungi or plants: psilocybin, psilocyn (another psychoactive component of “magic mushrooms”), dimethyltryptamine (DMT, the active ingredient in ayahuasca), ibogaine (a psychedelic derived from the root bark of the iboga tree), and mescaline (the active ingredient in peyote).  This month a California legislator introduced a bill, S.B. 58, that emulates Colorado’s new policy, aiming to legalize the possession, preparation, noncommercial transfer, and transportation of those five drugs by adults 21 or older…polling indicates that California voters are receptive to the idea, which builds on a series of reforms in other jurisdictions that suggest psychedelic prohibition could collapse faster than marijuana prohibition did, thanks largely to recent research on the potential benefits of these drugs…

We have the right to be safe at work just like anybody.  –  Cherida Fraser

To Molest and Rape

This is brazen even by cop standards:

An [Alabama cop] pulled over a woman before kidnapping and [rap]ing her [at gunpoint]…Joshua Davidson…is facing federal charges…since…[the] Jan. 30, 2020…[attack]…prosecutors filed a motion asking the court to detain Davidson…[because] he is “a flight risk and danger to the community”…[having] previously fled…to New Hampshire…in 2020…However, the court denied the prosecution’s motion [because cop]…

Down Under (#876)

In the US, the government would’ve “helped” by prosecuting the victims:

…John-Paul Pohe…filmed 14…sex [workers in session] and went on to face 17 charges of making an intimate visual recording…Pohe was also sentenced for the repeated rape and sexual violation of a young girl…he [also] filmed the [rapes] and kept the footage on his phone…le[ading] to hi[s] being caught…Pohe recorded the [women] – three of wh[om] he recorded twice – without…consent between September 2021 and April this year at four different brothels around the Wellington region…he [would] put his phone in one of his shoes at the end of the bed, to covertly capture the [act].  The discovery of the recordings led to identifying the women, [none] of whom had [any] idea they had been filmed…In each video the[ir]…faces are visible…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1065)

This is only the beginning:

Kelly Conlon and her daughter [went] to New York City the weekend after Thanksgiving as part of a Girl Scout field trip to Radio City Music Hall to see the Christmas Spectacular show.  But…Conlon was…identified [by a facial recognition system]…security guards approached her right as he got into the lobby…and…kicked her out…she [i]s an attorney…with the New Jersey based law firm, Davis, Saperstein and Solomon, which for years has been involved in personal injury litigation against a restaurant venue now under the umbrella of MSG Entertainment…”This whole scheme is a pretext for doing collective punishment on adversaries who would dare sue MSG in their multi-billion dollar network,” said Sam Davis, a partner at the firm…Other firms have sued over being blacklisted.  Conlon said she thought a recent judge’s order in one of those cases made it clear that ticketholders like her “may not be denied entry to any shows”…

Torture Chamber (#1267)

Where “alleged” is used to mean “endemic”:

For five decades, [young people condemned to] Los Angeles County [prison] camps and [cage stacks] have suffered repeated sexual assaults at the hands of [screws and] probation…officers, according to a lawsuit filed by nearly 300 [victims]…The…suit, involving 279 plaintiffs, follows two lawsuits filed earlier this year [by] 70 women…[who] were sexually assaulted [in]…other…facilities. [Screws]…not only [raped and] abused teenage girls, but also…boys…

Stalkers in Blue (Rapist Roundup)

Cops are sexual predators who often specifically target traumatized women:

Rachel Wilks was just 15 when…[she was] assaulted by a family member…[Victoria cop Jayden] Faure [started] grooming…[her via text and Snapchat and] also checking the details of one of her family members on the police [“]LEAP[“] database without any legitimate reason…[at least] 178 [cops] have…misuse[d]…LEAP in the past five years…[only] 65…were disciplined, and…Faure…was…the only o[ne of them] to be convicted…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1292)

It’s always lovely to see them feeding on each other:

A…[typical and representative Florida cop named] Jarrod Eldridge was arrested…[for interacting with] a…coworker…[fantasy role-play]ing as a 14-year-old girl named Jenny…Eldridge…[and the other wanker] exchanged dozens of messages, and Eldridge sent a photo of himself…

To Molest and Rape (#1298)

They’ll use any dodge to avoid saying “cop”, especially when the victims are literal babies:

A [typical and representative] Florida [cop]…received 60 years in prison for sexually abusing children on video.  Scott Matthew Yotka…videotaped himself abusing two children and distributed it over the internet, according to…an…FBI agent…[who was pretending to be a fellow]…molest[er]…The FBI agent asked Yotka how he kept the kids quiet about the abuse, and he responded, “they are young and don’t talk”…Yotka a[lso confessed]…he was an administrator on a social media for people who like “little kid things, incest fetishes and animal things”…

[KOSA] is the ultimate “let’s just blame the internet for anything bad” bill.  –  Mike Masnick

What the Hell Were You Thinking?

While prohibitionists get big bucks to harass sex workers, spread anti-whore propaganda and work with cops to target women for state violence, organizations which work to actually support sex workers get by on little more than volunteer hours and good wishes.  There’s nothing in this article about Street Safe New Mexico and the bad date list it maintains for street workers which will surprise sex workers or regular readers, but perhaps if articles like this keep appearing some big moneybag like Bezos or Gates, trying to make a name for himself as a philanthropist, will recognize this as an area where he really can make a difference for hundreds of thousands of women in the US alone.  And the fact that it appears in Cosmopolitan is another sign that feminism is slowly, falteringly, moving away from its misogynistic demands that the state violently police women’s sexual behavior.

No Friend of Ours

Those laboring under the delusion that Nevada is even remotely whore-friendly need look no further than this collection of dysphemisms, infantilization, racism, copaganda, bizarrely-stilted Copese, lurid fetishization of police victims, puritanism, distortion, and outright lies vomited out by “journalist” parrots after fellating their “law enforcement sources”.  The persecution of a very ordinary business is made to seem something like the adventure of a TV hero breaking up a terrorist plot to kill millions, rather than a simple-minded scheme for a gang of thugs to molest women and harass migrants in order to justify their pathologically-bloated budget while getting themselves off.

Torture Chamber (#1198)

Authoritarians want you to pay for more such hell-holes to torture even more people in:

…A new…report from the the [Fulton County Georgia] jail’s medical provider reveals that…the jail’s most vulnerable…[prisoners a]re wasting away in squalid conditions…more than 90 percent…were so malnourished that they had developed cachexia, a wasting syndrome that typically affects people with advanced-stage cancer…the men were detained in filthy cells and…over 90 percent…had not been “receiving essential medications” or completing their…activities of daily living…such as showering, dressing, using the toilet, and eating…every person in the unit had lice or scabies—in some cases both—a[bout which nothing was done until one prisoner died from the neglect]…on…Sept. 13…

Virtual Imperialism (#1202)

Beijing’s campaign to silence Chinese people outside China is becoming more aggressive:

…Criticism of the CCP has been rising in the ranks of censored topics on American campuses.  Whether it’s among professors adapting their classrooms to skirt Hong Kong’s oppressive national security law, administrators fearful of alienating lucrative funding or partnership opportunities, or international students worried that basic academic discussions will cause legal trouble at home, there is a growing problem in higher education….[which] comes with global implications: It’s getting a lot harder to talk critically about Xi Jinping, the CCP, and the human rights violations taking place in China.  This shift was on full display at GWU in February when [Chinese] students launched [an] anonymous protest…[by] post[ing] artwork from Australia-based Chinese artist Badiucao satirizing China’s human rights record and the ethical issues raised by its hosting of the Olympics…it took less than 24 hours before the…[Beijing-backed] Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) [demanded the protest be censored], calling for the responsible students to be “punished severely”…

You Were Warned (#1228)

These attempts to destroy the internet are just going to keep getting worse:

…a [gang of censorious politician]s is attempting to include the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) in a year-end “must pass” omnibus bill, ramping up the bill’s chance of passage.  While KOSA has been touted as a bill that would provide [so-called] accountability for tech companies by regulating their interactions with [legal minors], the bill would…instead…enact confusing, vague regulations upon tech companies that would encourage even more surveillance of users, and it would [allow]…parents [to file nuisance lawsuits] upon tech companies [on the same kinds of flimsy pretexts allowed by laws like FOSTA]…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1264)

It’s always lovely to see them feeding on each other:

A…[typical and representative cop] has been jailed after he…arrang[ed] to meet a[nother cop fantasy role-playing online as a] 15-year-old girl…Alex John Foster…was [arrested by the fantasy role-player and his cronies] in a [KFC parking lot] with condoms and lube [the other cop had asked him to bring.  Foster is clearly not very bright even by cop standards, because]…he…told the [fantasy role-playing cop]…“she could be an undercover police officer” [yet went anyway]…

The Cop Myth (#1285)

Sleeping with a cop is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do:

Madison [Wisconsin cop] Cary House was arrested and charged with…strangulation…of [his girlfriend.  The victim]…said House had been drinking all day when he entered her room where she was lying in bed with her young daughter; House started yelling at her and choking her…This isn’t the first time…House has…[been arrested for violent drunkenness]. In 2013…he was suspended without pay after…[firing] a gun while under the influence during a social gathering at his home…three [other Madison cops]…have been arrested within the last two weeks in separate, unrelated incidents…

Venereal disease was primarily an excuse to police women and reduce sexual opportunities for soldiers.  –  Eric Rogers

Bad Girls

Did they really think they’d get away with this?

An ex-Playboy model…has reportedly reached a plea deal despite maintaining her innocence in the [bludgeoning death of her sugar daddy]…California psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Burchard…[was] paying numerous bills [for]…Kelsey Turner…[to the tune of] over…$300,000…[yet] Judy Earp – the [victim’s conventional] girlfriend…[is in deep denial about] that…In March 2019, Burchard drove to Turner’s Las Vegas apartment – for which he had been paying the rent…[with the] inten[t] to break off the relationship…[then] on March 7, 2019, Burchard’s bludgeoned body was found stuffed in the trunk of [Turner’s Mercedes] near Lake Mead…Turner and her…boyfriend Jon “Logan” Kennison…[lived in the apartment with] Diana Pena…who pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder in 2019…[and] testified that she witnessed Kennison viciously beat Burchard to death with a baseball bat…In June, Kennison pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.  He was sentenced to between 18 and 45 years in prison…

License to Rape

“Search” is the most common government euphemism for “molest”:

Two Georgia women…were exposed to strangers…[during sexual molestation under the pretext of “]strip searches[“]…Dee Dee Estes [molested one]…woman…on the night of July 23, 2020…in plain view of the public after deputies [decid]ed [it would be fun to belch out the word]…drugs during a traffic stop.  “And she’s putting her fingers like inside me in the front, and then like up the backside of me”[besides penetrating the victim]’s private areas [without her consent, the rapist cop also forced] her [to] expose her breasts in front of male [pig]s and onlookers at a truck stop…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Extra-amusing given that Northern Ireland lives under the Swedish model:

A [cop was] arrested on suspicion of paying for sexual services [after his fellow cops ratted him out for] using his PSNI computer to contact escorts…His…identity is [being hidden by his superiors, unlike the identities of non-cops arrested for the same “crime”]…

The Face of Trafficking

Note that cases of actual coercion don’t look much like the myths:

Three [Louisiana] children were forced to bake and sell brownies by their stepfather[,] who…[also] sexually abus[ed] them and us[ed] violence, including waterboarding, to keep them working seven days a week…instead of going to school…for three years…Darnell Fulton…also…sexually abus[ed] the children and [apparently pimped] them to other[s]…Fulton…agreed to a 35-year prison term and to pay more than $700,000 to his victims…the…younge[st of whom]…was [under]…12…at…the…[time]He…us[ed] “violence, sexual abuse, withholding of food, degradation and intimidation” to [forc]e the children…[to] keep up with his daily sales quotas…the [abuse]…included…[forcing] them “get on their hands and knees on rice and stay in a push up or plank position for hours”…and…[beating] them with a belt [when they could no longer hold the position]…

Red Lamp

Modern military leaders like to pretend soldiers can be ordered to be asexual; those of a century ago tried to exploit soldiers’ frustrated libido:

The United States Government sought to sexually stimulate then frustrate its soldiers to prepare them for an unpopular conflict in Europe [by]…recruiting attractive canteen staff; inviting female civilians to closely supervised dances; disseminating alluring propaganda; pressurising troops to write to women back home; and detaining allegedly promiscuous women to prevent soldiers [“]wasting[“] energy…At the heart of this experiment was the Commission on Training Camp Activities (CTCA), a War Department-directed umbrella agency…[which] sought to control soldiers’ and women’s sex lives to prevent venereal infection and protect social morality in the US.  The CTCA has been portrayed as one of the last stands of an older generation of moral reformers against the onrush of a liberalizing sexual culture.  But Cambridge historian Eric Wycoff Rogers shows that the agency was far more interested in sexuality as a weapon…

The Cop Myth (#1052)

Cop cultists continue to deny reality no matter how much police violence and corruption is revealed:

…in 2020, Ricky Jones, a [typical and representative cop], jumped to his death from the Prince of Wales Bridge spanning the River Severn…He spent 26 years as a [violent thug for hire, so it’s no surprise]…he subjected his family to decades of domestic abuse.  After his death, Jones’s eldest daughter looked through his iPhone, hoping to get some insight into her father’s cruelty…WhatsApp and Facebook messages show Gwent police officers openly discussing the sexual harassment of junior female colleagues; racist, homophobic and misogynistic abuse; the leaking of sensitive police material; and corruption…Jones shared regular messages with his friend Clarke Joslyn, who [has a]…26 year…[history] of domineering, controlling and physically abusive behaviour…

The End of the Beginning (#1139)

Let’s hope many more challenges to these medieval laws succeed:

…the state of Idaho [has] settled Doe v. Wasden, an ACLU lawsuit challenging enforcement of the state’s “Crime Against Nature” law.  The state required three men to register as sex offenders in Idaho for engaging in consensual oral and anal sex…The settlement…requires the state to remove the three men from the Idaho Sex Offender Registry and to create a policy for removing other individuals who may have similar claims…

PayPal…shouldn’t be surprised if people don’t trust it.  –  Robby Soave

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Funny how many cops who are willing to pay prefer underage girls:

Thomas Peoples…was [fired from his position as] the police chief in Oak Ridge, Texas…[after] he was arrested in Arlington…and charged with solicitation of prostitution from a person under 18…

Not for Everybody

Another ex-sex worker thinks it’s her job to cheat her sisters out of money:

Former porn star Lana Rhoades is hitting out against the industry that made her a worldwide star, saying it should be made “illegal”.  Rhoades…worked in the field for eight months between 2016 and 2017, appearing in more than 250…films…[but she now claims] she was still scarred from the experience…Rhoades…was…19 when she appeared in her first X-rated scene…“For some reason I never comprehended that to do porn you actually have to have sex with people,” she said…

Rhoades is such a naive idiot, it seems unfair to put her in the Hall of Shame for just demonstrating what she is.  But if she goes beyond words to actually work with prohibitionists, I won’t be so lenient.

Part of the Picture (#614)

Why was anyone surprised that something openly advertised as spyware is actually spyware?

Two religious surveillance apps marketed as “porn filters” to churchgoers across America…[have been] ban[ned] by the Google app store…following a recent…report by Wired magazine…[which explained that] Covenant Eyes and Accountable2You spied on churchgoers’ searches and then sent the information to religious leaders [just as they are intended to do.  Yet]…after Wired [told]…Google…[that the apps functioned as advertised], the search giant determined that [the apps] violated its privacy policies…

Fair-Weather Friends (#1028)

About a twelfth of the time his long string of crimes deserves:

A [typical and representative] Columbus [Ohio] vice [pig] was sentenced to [a mere 18 months in] prison for violating the civil rights of a person he [had decided to ruin]…Steven Rosser…[repeatedly harassed] one of the owners of a gentlemen’s club…and…[also] scheme[d] to frame…[h]im for cocaine possession…

You Were Warned (#1218)

Prohibitionists, censors and profiteers will continue to harass businesses thus until FOSTA is overturned:

Roblox and Discord are among the platforms sued for allegedly harming children and teens in a new lawsuit…which also targets…Facebook…and…Snapchat…Filed in California state court, the suit is one of many [attempting to rob] large social media companies.  But comparatively few of these have covered Discord and Roblox, both of which are popular with young users. (Over half of US children were on Roblox as of 2020.)  It comes shortly after California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a law requiring sites to [violate all users’ privacy in the name of “child safety”.  The ambulance-chasers’ poster child is]…a 13-year-old girl…who began using Roblox around age 9…and…[supposedly developed] a “harmful and problematic dependence” on electronic devices that damaged her mental health, [even though it is not possible to become “addicted” to electronic devices]…Like most cases against social networks, the suit seeks to hold the services responsible for defective product design — and in the process, circumvent Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act…

Choke Point (#1278)

PayPal is becoming a major threat to civil liberties:

Last week, PayPal rolled out an updated user agreement…that…prohibits “the sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials” that “present a risk to user safety or wellbeing” or contain “misinformation”…what counts as misinformation is at PayPal’s “sole discretion”…and PayPal [granted itself the “right” to steal] $2,500 from the [targeted] user’s account…[after considerable outcry] PayPal…backtracked…[claiming the threat was]…”an…error that included incorrect information”…

Since PayPal disseminated misinformation, it seems to me it now owes every one of its users $2500.

To Molest and Rape (#1279)

Chicago is hiding the identity of another of its costumed rapists:

A federal grand jury has indicted a [typical and representative] Chicago [cop for]…the…kidnapping and [rape] of an [unidentified] individual [o]n March [5th] 2019.  James Sajdak…also faced a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Tyshee Featherstone…[whom he also raped] the same day.  Featherstone’s [sui]t was settled in April 2020…Sajdak was [also] accused of harassment in a separate lawsuit filed by Geneva Perry, who[m]…he…[terrorized during a pretextual stop] on Sept. 8, 2016…then masturbated in front of her between their two parked cars…That lawsuit was settled in December 2019…
