A friend told me that when he’s out of town, his girlfriend goes on paid dates with other men. She claims that there is no sex involved, but he’s unsure and asked me if compensated dates without sex are really a thing. My response was that if he can’t trust her, that’s the bigger problem, but I figured I’d ask you about the sexless dates.
The short answer is “no”. That isn’t to say that some compensated dates don’t involve genital-diddling; however, it’s not really possible for an escort to make a living by putting “no sex” in her profile or repeatedly disappointing clients’ expectations. Sexless escorting is mostly a fantasy of white bourgeois American women which is not found in nature; my tag “Delightful Conversation” collected cases, but I haven’t seen one in six years and figured it had mostly dried up. But most importantly, your advice to him was correct. The problem isn’t that she’s an escort; the problem is that she doesn’t trust him and vice versa, which doesn’t bode well for a relationship.

I don’t know about North America, but in Japan it most certainly is a thing. It is quite common for men (maybe for women as well) to hire someone for a few hours as companions for a meal, a visit to a tourist site, stuff like that. Loneliness is a big problem there, despite the crowds. Just read Murakami.
Yes, I’m well aware of enjo kosai. But Japan is not the West, and this was a Western question.
Yes, and in Japan guys take imaginary girls, virtual girls who are computer memes, on dates, to lunch, to picnics in the park. One hopes American and other Western guys haven’t degenerated (yet, anyway) to such fantasy existences. I do think most men want more than conversation with someone whose company they’re paying for. This chick is feeding her dude a line and he’s either sufficiently naïve, or immersed in wishful thinking, to buy it. I think it’s sad they can’t be honest with one another, and accepting of the reality, too.
As an autistic male that has never been in a relationship the idea of paying for dates without sex really appeals to me. I am trying to improve my social skills and have found talking with strippers really helps me. I actually have tried convince some erotic dancers that sell extras to go on paid dates with me but they charge the same for a lunch/dinner date as a sexy date which I don’t really like. So I have ended up paying the sexy date price to have nice long pre and post sex conversations.
Most escorts have a “social rate” for dates that aren’t expected to include private time; in my case it’s half my typical rate. But of course such dates make up only a small fraction of business, and one couldn’t make a living selling just that kind of date.
