Policing for Profit

There are many ways for cops to enrich themselves at others’ expense:

For three decades, Albuquerque defense attorney Thomas Clear bribed [corrupt cops] to make drunk driving cases against his clients disappear…by deliberately failing to show up at…hearings…or [other] judicial proceedings, allowing Clear to move for dismissal…Sometimes Clear’s paralegal, Rick Mendez, or his associates would “orchestrate” DWI arrests by getting people drunk and arranging for a corrupt cop to nab them after they hit the road…[Albuquerque pig] Justin Hunt…is one of two dozen people—including [fellow] Albuquerque [pigs], Bernalillo County [pigs], and a New Mexico State P[ig who]…was featured in a state ad campaign against drunk driving—who have been implicated in the bribery scheme so far.  Half of them have pleaded guilty, including Clear and Mendez…

The Face of Trafficking

Cases of actual coercion never look much like the myths:

Mad Libs (#1586)

The Constitution gave only Congress the power to make laws; the modern administrative state extended the power to agency employees.  And now:

The Trump [regime] is planning to [let a chatbot] write federal transportation regulations…agency attorney Daniel Cohen[, who is extremely stupid, characterized this extremely stupid idea as]…“exciting[” and “doing] our job better and faster”…[the mad emperor] is “very excited about this [extremely stupid idea]”…[Agency lawyer Gregory] Zerzan appeared interested mainly in the quantity of regulations [chatbots] could [vomit out], not their quality. “We don’t need…very good rule[s, just] good enough [for very stupid people, thus]…flooding the zone [with extremely stupid rules].”  These developments have alarmed [sane people] at DOT.  The agency’s rules touch virtually every facet of transportation safety, including regulations that keep airplanes in the sky, prevent gas pipelines from exploding and stop freight trains carrying toxic chemicals from skidding off the rails.  Why…would the federal government outsource the writing of such critical standards to a…technology notorious for making mistakes?…

Shame, Shame (#1605)

Financial companies are usually better at hiding their hypocrisy:

For many years, credit card companies and other payment [processors] were aggressive about policing…sexual [content].  Then, Elon Musk’s [MechaHitler] started undressing [legal minors] on [Twitter]…Though Musk has claimed that new guardrails prevent [MechaHitler] from undressing people, our testing showed that is…[a lie.  Twitter]…does seem to have…partially restricted [MechaHitler]’s image editing features to paid subscribers…[who] can [pay via]…Stripe or through the Apple and Google app stores using [a] credit card…at times financial institutions have [even] threatened [or cut off sex workers] and platforms [for non-sexual content or even medical fundraisers]…But Musk’s boutique revenge porn and CSAM generator is, apparently, just fine…

South Dakota…[politicians are aping a censorship tactic already in use by Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Utah, Indiana, and many others, abuse of consumer protection law]: They’re claiming that informational abortion ads constitute deceptive advertising…The case stems from gas station ads purchased by Mayday.Health, which…does not sell or prescribe abortion pills itself, nor is it affiliated with any abortion providers or clinics…It’s…[only] an information clearinghouse…[wannabe censors] argue…that because these ads don’t clearly “state the prohibitions listed in state law,” they are somehow deceptive.  But nowhere do the ads imply that abortion is legal in South Dakota.  They simply direct people to a website where they can learn more about abortion access…Mayday refused to [comply with politicians’ tantrums by] remov[ing] the ads from South Dakota gas stations…

Creepy Coppers (Nasty Pictures)

When the victim is a child, sometimes cops do face consequences for their actions:

[A North Carolina] police chief [named] Greg Warren [has been] denied bond…[after his] arrest…for…[taking] indecent…photos of [a sleeping teenage girl with]…his iPad…[and] stor[ing them] in a hidden folder on [his] phone [for masturbatory purposes.  It is unclear how the victim is related to Warren]…in a[n unusual move]…Warren has been suspended without pay…

The Cop Myth (#1572)

Cop violence is never limited to adults:

A [typical and representative California cop named…Retuquel Dupree…and [his girlfriend] Jessica Savangsy…have both been charged with…tortur[ing]…Savangsy’s [7-year-old] daughter…[to death and torturing] her little sister…[both the surviving 5-year-old] and…Dupree’s two daughters…were placed in [foster] care…the couple were already facing criminal charges…of grand theft and criminal conspiracy…and…Dupree [was enjoying a paid vacation as a result]…Dupree [has a history of domestic violence]…

They tried to hide this murderer’s cophood not only by using the distancing “former”, but by burying the lede down in paragraph 17.

Martin Luther King Jr[, whom]…Kirk [had repeatedly attacked]…in [real life.  But the slop went from merely vile to fully blasphemous with cartoons of]…Kirk with Jesus Christ…[wearing a MAGA] hat…

Bait and Switch (#1070)

Here’s reporter Kevin Light-Roth writing for The Appeal with a long, thorough deep dive on the “Operation Net Nanny” scams which were specifically designed to entrap normal young men seeking consensual sex with adult age-peer women on adults-only dating sites, so as to destroy their lives via prison and permanent “sex offender” registration by claiming that the adult women they arranged to meet were actually pigs pretending in their minds to be minors.  I know that sounds completely Kafkaesque, but if you explore this tag you’ll realize it’s not only an accurate description, but a common entrapment scheme for the past decade.  The article also explores the scam’s deep connections to disgraced “sex trafficking” profiteer Tim Ballard, and the attempts by the families of the victims to use Ballard’s downfall as a crowbar to pry open the refusal of the Washington state carceral establishment to do anything about these blatantly-illegal pogroms.

Virtual Imperialism (#1292)

Greedy, amoral corporations enable Beijing’s campaign to silence Chinese people:

The Chinese telecoms giant Tencent is trying to muzzle a service that offers an uncensored view of what users of [its] social media platform WeChat…are posting…FreeWeChat…is operated by…anti-censorship organisation GreatFire.org…and…works by identifying WeChat posts that contain certain “sensitive” keywords and archives and monitors them all to see whether they are subsequently deleted from the social platform.  Typical [censored] words…include the so-called three Ts: Tiananmen, Taiwan and Tibet.  If a monitored post subsequently disappears, FreeWeChat marks it as “censored”…FreeWeChat has…allowed more than 700,000 censored WeChat posts to remain available for both Chinese users and others…[but] Tencent…[has made a legal claim] to Vultr, the USA-based…host…of…FreeWeChat…claim[ing] that FreeWeChat was infringing intellectual property rights…[so] Vultr suspended the [site]…

Thought Control (#1499)

Politicians really do believe they can control people’s thoughts via censorship:

The Randolph County [North Carolina] Library Board [was fired en masse] by the county commissioners…[for refusing] to [ban] a children’s book titled Call Me Max…[which one wannabe censor demanded banned]…Of the 40 speakers [at the meeting], 21 w[ere violently-censorious nitwits who “arguments” were made up of threats and unsupported opinions]…while 19 [wanted to allow] librarians [to do the jobs they were hired to do]…

A [politician] leading a campaign to ban pornography in Michigan appears to have had an account on a pornographic hook-up website that promised users they could “find sex” and “get laid tonight”…Josh Schriver…has called porn a “scourge” and compared it to heroin…but…an account linked to his personal AOL email address appeared in a data breach from Fling.com…[where his] profile indicat[es] sexual interests including “fetish” and “groupsex”…

A Moral Cancer (#1515)

Prohibitionists never tire of treating adults like children:

In 2015, Oregon [politicians impos]ed a law that prohibited the sale of vaping products “packaged in a manner that is attractive to minors”…The resulting regulations offer a “non-exclusive list” of packaging features that the OHA deemed “likely to appeal to minors,” including images of “food or beverages…such as candy, desserts, soda, [and] food or beverages with sweet flavors including fruit or alcohol.” Also forbidden: “terms or descriptive words for flavors that are likely to appeal to minors such as tart, tangy, sweet, cool, fire, ice, lit, spiked, poppin’, juicy, candy, desserts, soda, [and] sweet flavors including fruit, or alcohol flavors.”  The premise of these rules is that such flavors [never] appeal to…adult smokers looking for a less hazardous form of nicotine consumption…[but] adults who switch from smoking to vaping overwhelmingly prefer the flavors that the OHA views as juvenile…The…regulations require vape shops to actively conceal information that their customers want…[by censoring] labels…[which] means customers must ask employees for information that ordinarily would be on the label…a state appeals court [has] rul[ed] that the law…is “unconstitutional on its face”…

A…[typical and representative] Border Patrol [goon] was charged with assaulting a Long Beach [California cop]…Isaiah Anthony Hodgson…is…one [of the goons who attacked] a 20-year-old American citizen…at a Walmart parking lot…in [June]…and…was also…involved in the a[bduction] of Job Garcia, a[nother] citizen who was a[ttacked for] filming a raid at an East Hollywood Home Depot…in the [present case]…Hodgson…[barged into] the women’s restroom [at a restaurant] and [threatened] a [woman]…with a…gun [while drunk.  He then went out into]…the parking lot…[and attacked] a security guard…and…one of the…[cops who had come to arrest him for attempting to molest the woman]…

Seems like a significant fraction of child porn is spread by cops:

[A New Jersey cop named] Anthony Kelly…has pled guilty to…distribution of child [porn after]…NCMEC…[reported him to the] prosecutor’s office…[Kelly was] distributi[ng the porn] from a Kik account…between July…and October 2024…He was…charged on November 26…[and agreed to a plea bargain sentence of] seven years in…prison…[with] parole…[and condemnation to the “sex offender” registry] for life…

A Broker in Pillage (#1463)

South Carolina is one of the most flagrant abusers of this unconstitutional practice:

For the first time in nearly 20 years, [people] can travel without fear of [“]Operation Rolling Thunder[”], an annual [scheme to rob motorists] along Interstate 85.  [Typical and representative] Sheriff Chuck Wright initiated the multiday cr[iminal conspiracies] in 2006 and expanded them over the years to involve 11 [cop shops].  But…Wright resigned on May 23…[due to] a federal criminal investigation, and interim Sheriff Jeffery Stephens announced during his first news conference that the [racket] will not continue…Operation Rolling Thunder was an unconstitutional search-and-seizure machine that subjected thousands of innocent people to pretextual, warrantless searches…[in which predatory cops] routinely pulled over vehicles on the flimsiest of excuses and then [rooted through the cars]…and [luggage without warrants or probable cause in order to steal whatever they found.  In one especially-egregious case, cops waylaid]…a charter bus from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and treated every student on board like a criminal…the Institute for Justice…sued for access to…records from 2022, the year of the Shaw incident…[and] found that over 72 percent of vehicle searches produced nothing illegal.  [The cops] cashed in anyway…and…nobody knows exactly where the money goes…due to weak accounting and reporting laws…

Cops won’t drop this fantasy until “news” media stop obediently parroting it:

…Washington State P[igs have] a new tool to help [them cash in on] speeding drivers, and your cellphone may have [been conscripted to] help…[them without your consent].  Cellphone data from more than 1 million cellphone users in Washington in 2023 helped the state identify where to look for…drivers [they can profit from via speeding tickets]…the co[p shop] used [your tax money] to purchase telematic data gathered by Michelin…to show when and where [the speed limits were too low for the conditions, so] drivers were [routinely exceeding those arbitrary limits]…Over the next six weeks…Washington State Patrol will be looking [to cash in by lurking] in four locations where [the] speed…[limit is arbitrarily low]: Interstate 5 from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to Fife, from Fife to Auburn on I-5, north and south of Everett on I-5, and a 14-mile stretch of Interstate 90 east and west of downtown Spokane…

Don’t think this will only be used to persecute the “other”; we’re well past that:
