Monsters (#1357)

Violence against a marginalized group never stays limited to that group:

A[n Irish] woman…who was attacked [by a violent drunk named]…Alex Bailey…in September 2022 [has died of her injuries.  Marie] MacGowan…was 86 at the time [and] had early onset dementia…she…decided to go out to the shops, not realising it was 1am.  She got lost and [was attacked by] Bailey…for 42 minutes.  He knocked her to the ground, punched, kicked and dragged her and [violently slammed] her headfirst into a [garbage] bin…then attacked her again as she tried to get out.  The attack only ended when students walking past [intervened]…Bailey had [decided]…Ms MacGowan…was [“a predatory paedophile” and “a man dressed as a woman”, apparently excusing violent assault in his mind]…

Torture Chamber (#1501)

It’s very rare for screws who murder prisoners to suffer any serious consequences:

A [typical and representative] New York [screw] has been found guilty [while] two other…[murderous screw]s were acquitted in the [brutal murder] of Robert Brooks, a…[human being they beat so savagely that that even their own union called the animalistic attack “incomprehensible”]…David Kingsley was found guilty of murder and manslaughter…[and] faces 25 years to life in prison.  Matthew Galliher and Nicholas Kieffer were [set free to murder again]…

No Escape (#1522)

The inevitable result of giving sexually-aggressive thugs total power over women:

In June 2024, Andrea Weiskircher…reluctantly filed complaints against the [screws] who had sexually abused her…inspir[ing] other women throughout the jail to file their own, detailing stories of rape, assault, coercion and sexual harassment…Within weeks, seven victims had reported [attacks and] violations…and in the year that followed…dozens more current and former female [prisoners] have come forward to share similar experiences…in [the] state that incarcerates more women per capita than any other…Some…worried that they could be denied parole [in retaliation] for talking about what happened to them.  And others who were already out on parole told reporters they could end up back in prison if their parole officer submitted a [retaliatory] violation against them…They did it anyway…

No Escape (#1528)

And this is just LA County; every single jurisdiction in the US has similar rates:

Six months after approving the largest sexual abuse settlement in US history…Los Angeles…tentatively agreed to pay another huge sum, nearly $1bn, to settle more than 400 additional claims…the…$828m [settlement still leaves]…2,500 other unresolved cases, not covered by either settlement…and that number is expected [to] increase…

Panopticon (#1558) 

Amazon has now fully embraced fascist police-state collaboration:

Amazon’s surveillance [division] Ring announced a [fascist] partnership…with Flock, a maker of [warrantless] surveillance cameras that…[enable cops to circumvent the Fourth Amendment.  Amazon still frames the conscription of supposedly-private cameras as a “]request[” despite the fact] that Ring [has a long history of violating owners’ consent if they refuse]…On the same day that Ring announced this partnership, 404 Media reported that ICE, the Secret Service, and the Navy had access to [the] Flock…network…[which now includes many millions of] Ring…cameras…

The Punitive Mindset (#1583) 

The government does to caged people what it would like to do to all people:

New Hampshire [screw]…Thomas Kelley…stole six pieces of mail in a…bid to intercept [his victim]s’ complaints from reaching their intended destination.  He [was so proud of himself he even] sent a photo to [fellow screw Christopher] Masse to prove it…and [admitted it in]…text…exchanges…multiple state and federal agencies investigated [this and many other abuses and humans rights violations] in 2023 but then declined to prosecute…[despite copious] evidence of…drug trafficking by [screws]…a plan to falsify records to cover up [severe] physical abuse of a…[caged human being], and plans to retaliate against at least one [of their victims] for making complaints…

[Actor] Jonathan Joss…[best known for voicing John Redcorn in King of the Hill, was murdered] while checking the mail at the site of [his] former home…[which] was [intentionally] burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area…[that cops ignored because Joss was gay and lived there with his husband] Kern de Gonzales…while…[there] they found…the skull…of one of their dogs [which had been killed by the same hateful people]…”[While] we [were] crying…a man approached us…yelling violent homophobic slurs”…the[n] raised a gun and [murdered] Joss…the…[murderer], Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja…fled the scene in a vehicle….[but] has [since] been [caught and] booked for murder…

Policing for Profit

If cops weren’t allowed to rob people, there would’ve been nothing to embezzle:

A[n overpaid boss hog for] Hialeah [Florida has been] arrested…fo[r the theft of]…hundreds of thousands of dollars [from the booty his pig herd had stolen from innocent citizens]…Sergio Velazquez…[was boss hog] from 2012 until his suspension in 2021…was [already making] $211,000 annually, [but that wasn’t enough for the gangster lifestyle he wanted.  The theft was discovered by]…the current [boss hog], who discovered [the] discrepancies [while looking for ways he could himself embezzle from the stolen] funds…between 2015 and 2021, Velazquez made more than 900 cash deposits across multiple personal bank accounts, all under $10,000…to avoid federal reporting requirements….and…made over $300,000 in purchases from Rolex…$11,000 at Cartier, $6,700 at Louis Vuitton and $5,000 at Versace…during the final five months of Velazquez’s tenure—from May to October 2021—about $560,000 in [booty was] unaccounted for…

Stalkers in Blue

Sleeping with a cop is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do:

A…Salt Lake City [cop named]…Todd Douglas Goodsell…was charged on May 19 with stalking [his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him] in November 2024…Goodsell persistently contacted her via phone call, text message, email, and various apps…[even after] she asked him to stop on Jan. 3, then again on Jan. 17 and Jan. 22…he emailed or texted her at least 52 times using 10 different phone numbers, including his work phone, personal phone, and several other numbers…generated through a “VOIP”…website…Goodsell also tried contacting her via Instagram and even Venmo, and…would create new accounts after she would block him…

HIV Cure (#1214)

If one virus can be cured this way, there is hope for others as well:

A cure for HIV could be a step closer after researchers found a new way to force the virus out of hiding inside human cells.  The virus’s ability to conceal itself inside certain white blood cells…means there is a reservoir of the HIV in the body, capable of reactivation, that neither the immune system nor drugs can tackle.  Now researchers from the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity in Melbourne, have demonstrated a way to make the virus visible, paving the way to fully clear it from the body…researchers have shown…that mRNA can be delivered into the cells where HIV is hiding, by encasing it in a tiny, specially formulated fat bubble.  The mRNA then instructs the cells to reveal the virus…

The Puritan Recrudescence (#1532)

Pornhub has repeatedly taken the principled stand of refusing to facilitate state spying:

The owner of Pornhub, Redtube and YouPorn plans to stop serving adult content to French users [who don’t have VPNs], in protest of government measures forcing it to verify the age of its visitors…The French audience is Pornhub’s second-largest in the world, after the United States and ahead of the Philippines, Mexico and the United Kingdom, its own internal 2024 statistics showed…

Predictably, VPN downloads soared in France after the block was implemented.

The Cop Myth (#1532)

Why are people shocked when men paid and encouraged to behave violently, behave violently?

[An Alabama cop named] David Cunningham…[went to a party in] Gulfport [Mississippi]…the homeowner’s dog was accidentally shot at the party, and [Cunningham attacked] the person responsible [and abducted him in his pigmobile.  Local]…deputies responding to [neighbor complaints of gunshots stopped]…Cunningham…and released [his prisoner but did not arrest him because cop.  The sheriff then got angry because an Alabama cop was poaching in Mississippi, so]…a warrant was issued [on Cunningham] for kidnapping…[but he fled to] Orlando, Florida…[where he was caught and arrested, and is now awaiting] extradition [to Mississippi]…

Property of the State (#1540) 

How long will Western society allow cops and prosecutors to terrorize traumatized women?

[A] West Virginia…prosecut[or named] Tom Truman said that a number of [felony] charges…could be levied against a woman who flushes fetal remains, buries them, or otherwise disposes of remains following…a miscarriage…state code bars a woman from facing [direct] criminal charges for her own abortion.  However…a number of prosecut[ors]…have discussed…their [eager]ness to file criminal charges against women [who miscarry]…by [ab]using state law related to the disposal of human remains…Truman explained [that prosecutors are godlike beings who can divine whether women had bad thoughts when they miscarried, and absurdly declared]…that women [should risk] potential criminal charges by reporting the miscarriage to [male pigs and prosecutors who want to destroy their lives for fun]…

Note the resemblance of this strategy to sex work under legalization regimes, where the act itself is legal, but cops and prosecutors maliciously fling charges for adjacent conduct (such as having an incall).

A 19-year-old [lesbian] was…attacked…at a McDonald’s in…Carpentersville, Illinois…about an hour outside of Chicago…Kady Grass…and her 13-year-old cousin were [order]ing food…when Grass decided to use the bathroom.  Both the restroom stalls were full, so she walked out…[and] one boy out of a group of three began [insulting] her [appearance]…and [tried]…to [provoke a] fight…Then [started]…to a[ttack her], with one…punching her in the front and the other hitting her in the back…A manager…attempted to break up the fight, but he also “got hit in the process”…In an attempt to protect herself, Grass closed her eyes and fell to the ground, which led to the two [attackers] stomping on her head…[until she was knocked] unconscious…Grass…suffered a broken nose…[and extensive] bruises…[19-year-old John] Kammrad was arrested on May 17…and…charged with…aggravated battery…[his juvenile accomplice was also charged and]…the two girls occupying the bathroom…will face misdemeanor charges for stealing Grass’ wallet, phone and her cousin’s phone…

[Scottish politician] Ash Regan is introducing a bill that would [impose]…the “Nordic Model”…Regan also wants to see…sex [workers spied on and harassed by cops]…a campaign…has been specifically set up to oppose her proposals, with sex workers stressing safety concerns…

The Last Shall Be First (#1484) 

The only way to keep information from being abused by the State is not to collect it in the first place:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Dallas pediatrician, Dr. May Lau for [refusing to forcibly detransition] “at least 21” minors…Within weeks, Paxton’s office filed similar suits against two more physicians…effectively shut[ting] down these three doctors’ ability to practice…it is a striking example of how government officials can weaponize private prescription records to target anyone they want….[via] the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program…established in the 2000s to [drive pain patients to suicide and destroy the lives of pain doctors]…Testosterone, classified as a Schedule III controlled substance, is automatically tracked in the PDMP database…[which is why] virtually all of the patients were transmasculine…estrogen is not a controlled substance…subject to PDMP surveillance…PDMP datasets typically include patient details…refill schedules, and identifying information for the prescriber and pharmacy.  In nine states, the PDMP entry even contains the diagnosis code…[so a pig rooting in] the file could directly see why a person was prescribed a drug…once a pharmacy uploads…data to a PDMP, that information is no longer covered by HIPAA privacy rules…[and] every state allows police or prosecutors to [root in] PDMP data…without so much as a warrant…Some PDMPs even…[rat out patients the algorithm deems] “suspicious”…PDMPs…function as a nationwide surveillance network….While abortion medications…are not federally scheduled controlled substances…Louisiana recently classified…Mifepristone as a controlled substance, which [will] now be tracked by Louisiana’s PDMP…

Local politicians’ virtue-signaling is powerless against the fascist panopticon:

Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez announced this year her department has a “zero contact policy” with ICE…But [that is a lie;] the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office received over $1 million from the federal government last year…for sharing sensitive information, including names, birthplace and country of origin, under the…State Criminal Alien Assistance Program…managed in part by ICE, [which] uses federal dollars to reimburse local jails and prisons for…[cag]ing…immigrants…even in so-called sanctuary cities and states that forbid…[cop] co[llabo]ration and data sharing with ICE…A spokesperson for Sanchez’s office defended the county’s participation [with, “who are you going to believe, us or the facts?”]…some jurisdictions have chosen to withdraw from SCAAP in recent years to keep from feeding more information into ICE’s deportation dragnet…San Francisco terminated…participation in SCAAP ahead of the first Trump [regime], though Alameda County did not follow suit…Wisconsin’s Dane County, has also quit since Trump’s return to power…

Cop deals with problems exactly as he was trained & encouraged to, and everyone is shocked:

A…[typical and representative California cop named]…Daniel Hutsell…[murdered] his wife, Dinella Hutsell, [then shot himself.  Their daughter]…called 9-1-1…to report that both her father and mother were dead.  The boss hogs thought it was very important to state that he was not wearing his magical clown costume at the time, but this was not his first murder]…He was [part of a gang]…who shot and killed Stephen Murray…on July 17, 2019…and [naturally escaped scot-free]…

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #17)

Hey, female cops; how’s that collaboration with the police state working out?

Alexus Byrd-Maxey [was a naif who watched far too many cop glorification shows as a] child…But on March 17, 2023, [she had a rude awakening about what cops are really like when]…another recruit [grabbed] her…and [rubbed his dick against her ass]…She [naively believed] confront[ing] him…[would lead to] remorse…Instead…she saw him smirk…[the typical and representative cop], a man named Eric Tabb…started telling other recruits that Byrd-Maxey had overreacted and that h[is dick was really his hand and her butt was really her] shoulder…when Byrd-Maxey reported the incident [she quickly discovered how the “thin blue line” works when she]…was fired from the academy for supposedly cursing and using gang language…Tabb soon became a…[cop] and [was set loose to terrorize the public]…Eight months…[later], Tabb was arrested for…repeatedly [groping other sows]…Tabb now faces multiple felony charges…[which] is [unusual because]…Chicago [cop shops typically refuse]…to vigorously investigate…sexual assault by [pigs], whether those complaints were lodged by [sows]…or members of the public….allowing [rapists] to abuse again and again…

I Spy (#1530)

In mass surveillance, fascism beats communism hands down:

The U.S. [surveillance establishment] is now buying up vast volumes of sensitive information that would have previously required a court order, essentially bypassing the Fourth Amendment…So the government…is working on a system to centralize and “streamline” the use of commercially available information, or CAI, like location data derived from mobile ads…spy agencies will use the web portal not just to search through reams of private data, but also run them through [computer programs] for further analysis…the “Intelligence Community Data Consortium” will provide a single convenient web-based storefront for searching and accessing this data, along with a “data marketplace” for purchasing “the best data at the best price,” faster than ever before…for the [NSA]…CIA…FBI…Homeland Security…and [14 other spook houses]…sidestepping constitutional and statutory privacy protections…Once the website is up and running, the…portal will eventually allow users to analyze the data using large language models, [complete with their characteristic]…factual errors and fabrications.  The portal will also facilitate “sentiment analysis,” a…pseudoscientific endeavor purporting to discern one’s opinion about a given topic using implicit signals in their behavior, movement, or speech…

Whatever They Need To Say (#648)

Gentrification is one of the most common motivations for persecution of all kinds of sex workers:

Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto has declared a gentrification war on South LA’s Figueroa Corridor under the guise of ending sex trafficking…she has weaponized an archaic law, The Red Light Abatement Act, to shut down immigrant-owned motels…in preparation for pre-Olympic gentrification…subject[ing] an already over-policed neighborhood to further hypersurveillance and…raids…The Act makes the property owner responsible for vice crimes committed on their property…Essentially, businesses can be forced to shut down based on a [mere evidence-free accusation] that sex work is happening on their property, whether or not they knew of the activity.  As a result, property owners discriminate against sex workers…

The Last Shall Be First (#1147)

Puritanism is throttling the entire world:

Hungary’s parliament [has] passed an amendment to [its 14-year-old] constitution that allows the government to ban [LGBT] public events...another [increase in] authoritarianism…by the ruling Fidesz-KDNP coalition led by populist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán…The amendment codifies a law fast-tracked through parliament in March that bans [such] events…including the popular Pride event in Budapest that draws thousands annually…That law also allows [pigs] to use facial recognition tools to [harass] people who attend prohibited events...with fines of up to 200,000 Hungarian forints ($546)…The new amendment also states that the constitution recognizes two sexes, male and female…denying the gender identities of transgender people, as well as ignoring the existence of intersex individuals…

The Last Shall Be First (#1342)

Florida knows it will lose any challenge to this law:

A transgender woman was arrested last month for refusing to leave the women’s restroom at the Florida State Capitol.  Marcy Rheintgen, a 20-year-old college student…acted intentionally to challenge Florida’s antitrans bathroom law…sending 160 letters to state representatives, the attorney general, and…Ron DeSantis [announcing the planned date and time of her visit and] asking that she not be arrested for using the…women’s restroom…[creepy pigs] followed her inside and warned her that if she did not leave…she would be arrested…but…opted to arrest her [for “]trespass on property after warning[” so she]…won’t be able to challenge the [bathroom] law…in court…

The Cop Myth (#1492)

This one directly describes very typical cop behavior as “uncharacteristic”:

A…[New York cop named]…Aaron M. Alshaman…[was rewarded with a paid vacation for attempting to burn his girlfriend’s house down at 4:30 AM while wearing his magical clown costume]…The two-family, two-story house is still intact and livable but it is damaged…the fire was [quickly] deemed to be arson and…strong…evidence [points to]…Alshaman…

Torture Chamber (#1501)

A society can be judged by the way it treats its prisoners:

For decades, America relied heavily on psychiatric asylums to treat—or, in many cases, to warehouse and neglect—people with serious mental-health conditions.  Then the grand project of “deinstitutionalization” began…[start]ing [in] 1963…the funding for that vision never materialized.  Instead, new policies criminalizing poverty and addiction swept up people in severe psychiatric distress, who often ended up in county jail—where…they might languish for months or even years…The number of people jailed pretrial has nearly quadrupled since the nineteen-eighties; people with mental-health issues tend to be detained significantly longer than the rest of the population.  Today, the nation’s three largest mental-health providers are New York’s Rikers Island, L.A. County’s Twin Towers Jail, and Chicago’s Cook County Jail…private companies…[are] contract[ed]…to provide medical and mental-health care at a capped cost; any additional money expended…comes out of the corporation’s earnings…[so, predictably,] jails that provide…health care through the top five companies in that market…[have] death rates…eighteen to fifty-eight per cent higher than those of jails whose medical services were publicly managed.  Of the five…NaphCare had the highest death rate…

The Puritan Recrudescence (#1517)

Censorious politicians aren’t just copying each other; they’re vying to make their new laws the most unconstitutional:

Missouri…Attorney General Andrew Bailey [is] push[ing] regulations to [censor the internet without bothering to go through the legislature].  Under a new [proclamation by a politician without lawmaking power], commercial porn sites are required to [violate the privacy of] users…at both the website and device level.  [How Bailey imagines he has the power to do this, or how his magical proclamation demanding device filters will stand when others have been struck down, all while somehow magically]…upholding the privacy rights of legal-age users, [is unclear, as is how he imagines he has the power to determine how]…search engine[s work]…

It’s bad enough when human reporters parrot politicians’ bloviation, but it’s intolerable when a website uses a computer program to do it (while insulting readers’ intelligence by sticking a fake byline on it).

Thought Control (#1526)

A few sane judges are the only thing protecting US libraries from morally-defective control freaks:

A lawsuit filed against Rockford [Michigan] Public Schools [seeking to ban] over 14 library books [absurdly labeled] “sexually explicit” has been dismissed by the Court of Appeals…The lawsuit was filed by [outside agitators who hid their identities to dodge public ridicule]…and…the court…said…they had no legal right to sue because criminal claims require a prosecutor’s approval…[and] the books were not illegal…

Though most of the items appearing under this heading describe violence against trans women, trans men are also targets of horrific violence:

Five people face murder charges after a transgender man…missing [for weeks] was found dead in a field in [New York]…after enduring months of torture…Sam Nordquist…of Oakdale, Minnesota, arrived in New York state in September and was…last in contact with loved ones in late January…Sam, a transgender ma[n]…met a woman named Precious [Arzuaga] online, who convinced him to visit her in New York.  Sam left Minnesota on September 28, 2024, with a round-trip plane ticket, planning to return within two weeks.  However, he never boarded his return flight and was un[der Arzuaga’s psychological]…control…Police launched a missing person investigation…after receiving a welfare check request from Nordquist’s family.  They d[iscover]ed Nordquist had…”endured prolonged physical and psychological abuse” and “repeated acts of violence and torture” between early December and early February…[Arzuaga and other]s sexually assaulted Nordquist with a table leg and broomsticks, and beat him with sticks, dog toys, ropes and belts until he died. His body…was then [dumped in a field]…the…[other] four…[are] Kyle Sage…Patrick Goodwin…Emily Motyka…[and] Jennifer Quijano…

Imaginary Evils (#1347)

Liz Brown on another company the government is trying to destroy with “sex trafficking” myths despite a lack of “sex trafficking” charges:

…Nicole Daedone…founde[r of] OneTaste…and…Rachel Cherwitz, OneTaste’s former head of sales…face a single count of conspiracy to commit forced labor…”between approximately 2004 and 2018.”  Neither woman is charged with actually forcing labor or engaging in other criminal acts.  Their lawyers believe this is the first time the feds have charged forced labor conspiracy without an underlying forced labor charge…prosecutors have…employed dubious theories of criminality, such as “coercive control,” and…have exploited rank sensationalism, as though hoping that throwing in lots of details about kinky sex and free love while suggesting cultish behavior will do where evidence of legal wrongdoing falls short.  Underlying the case is one of the Justice Department’s catchall justifications: stopping sex trafficking and prostitution…the feds clearly intend to imply that this is really a sex trafficking case, even if the charges don’t go that far…

The Last Shall Be First (#1413) 

The time, money, and energy Americans are flushing down the “culture war” toilet is incalculable:

…a[n Iowa] bill…would make it a felony to take a minor to a drag show…This applies whether the performer sings, lip-syncs, dances, reads or “performs for entertainment,” regardless of whether they receive payment…the legislation…[calls for] up to five years in prison and a fine [of up to]…$10,245.  The bill would [also] levy fines of $10,000 per minor against any business that allows a minor to be present at or view a drag show hosted on its premises, and [encourages mob rule lawsuits allowing profiteers to demand]…between $10,000 and $50,000 [from each victim they sue]…

Trumpist propaganda dismisses book bans as a “hoax”:

At an elementary school at Fort Campbell, [Kentucky,] home of the 101st Airborne Division, librarians [have been forced to hide]…books that contain references to slavery, the civil rights movement and anything else related to diversity, equity and inclusion…[due to an official] letter “to ensure compliance with executive orders”…Librarians are [order]ed to ensure any such books are “removed from the student section of the [library] and placed in the professional collection”…At Fort Campbell, administrators and librarians are interpreting the [vague order] to apply to…anything that could be perceived to promote one group over another or make one group look bad…[such as] books that mention slavery, the civil rights movement or the treatment of Native Americans…Ironically, some of those history books on civil rights might reference the deployment of the 101st Airborne to Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957 to protect Black students during the desegregation of a high school, a pivotal moment in civil rights history…At another DoDEA school in Europe…libraries are removing books that discuss immigration in a positive light…

If Men Were Angels

Preacher can’t or won’t behave like a moral person; what a shock:

A [typical and representative Oklahoma] pastor…[named] James McMillan was arrested in late November…[becaus]e he unzipped his pants and began touching himself in front of a…[teen girl] while [driv]ing down a Cleveland County highway.  McMillan was arrested again [on December 9] for [show]ing [porn]…to a minor…he…has been [repor]ted [for] sexual abuse…in multiple [social] services and [criminal] cases dating back to 2003 [but nothing has ever been done]…

Cops and Robbers (#1328)

Cops don’t like it when non-cops ape their entrapment schemes:

Police are …[hu]nting teenage gangs [which are] terrorizing gay men in “pedo hunts” in the Sydney area…Nearly a dozen organized attacks have been connected to the…gangs, likely a fraction of the actual number…the victims were gay men who arranged to meet in public parks with someone they met on a dating app like Grindr.  Instead of a consensual hook-up, they were confronted by multiple teenagers, who then taunted, beat, and robbed the victims, sometimes using [guns Australian politicians like to pretend don’t exist in Australia]…Several of the victims were forced [by threats] to c[laim they were] pedophiles while being filmed, [so the attackers could post the]…videos…online, in…[places such as] an Instagram account called “pedohunting_syd”…At least five boys, ages 14 to 17, have been charged in connection with the assaults and robberies, as well as…possessing unauthorized firearms.  Police are describing the gang as a terror group…

Thought Control (#1460)

I was destined to be threatened with state violence regardless of career path:

After years of culture war battles in school and public libraries, the campaign by [pro-censorship] “parent rights” groups has succeeded in casting a nationwide chill over the market for children’s books…During the 2023-24 school year, there were more than 10,000 book bans in public schools — a 200% rise over the previous year.  The books overwhelmingly included LGBTQ+ themes and characters of color, according to PEN America.  Many of the same books are banned over and over across the country, through coordinated efforts by [pro-censorship] groups…Teachers and librarians, facing threats and fearful of losing their jobs or even going to jail…are hesitating to put [any] books that include LGBTQ+ characters or discussions of racism on their shelves…sales of such books are down significantly…and authors have seen school visits canceled, leaving them without a crucial income stream…[wannabe thought controllers vomit out the word “]pornography[” at sane, moral people, and opine that “authors and publishers]…should be imprisoned.  Educators and public librarians who [stock any book we point at] should be classed as registered sex offenders”…

Politicians really do believe they can control people’s thoughts via threats:

Karen Cahall…who teaches third grade [in Ohio], was recently suspended for three days without pay and threatened with termination…for [hav]ing four books in her classroom library [of about 100 books] that contained LGBTQ characters…Ana On The Edge, The Fabulous Zed Watson!, Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea, and Too Bright to See…[were on a list used by busybodies to harass teachers] and…on October 30, 2024, a [wannabe thought-controller took it up on herself to compare every title in Cahall’s library against that list, then]…sent an email complaining to…every [school board] member…Superintendent Tracey Miller, who [has neither spine nor principles, claimed]…Cahall’s inclusion of these books in her classroom library violated school district policy…[against books about] “topic[s] on which opposing points of view [exist]”…Cahall has filed a…lawsuit against Miller and…School District…[because] their actions were [blatantly] unconstitutional…

Property of the State (#1474) 

How long will society accept its medical system being used as a tool of state violence?

Across the country, hospitals are dispensing medications to patients in labor, only to report them to child welfare authorities when they or their newborns test positive for those very same substances on subsequent drug tests…The[se]…are…medications routinely prescribed to millions…every year…includ[ing] morphine or fentanyl for epidurals or other pain relief, anxiety medications, and two different blood pressure meds prescribed for C-sections.  In a time of increasing surveillance and criminalization of pregnant women since the end of Roe v. Wade, the hospital reports have prompted calls to the police, child welfare investigations and even the [abduction] of children from their parents…

You Were Warned (#1483)

Politicians will use any trick to gain control of the internet:

[Pro-censorship politician] Mike Lee has introduced a bill to…forc[e unconstitutional] age verification on app stores and mobile devices, with [the] goal of chilling sex-related speech.  Lee [misuses the word] “accountability” [to weirdly represent]…”big corporations”…[as public] “moral[ity agencies” despite the fact that]…big corporations like Google and Apple already ban apps featuring sexual content…[for] everybody…[so] this legislation is about…age-gating…social media…and making tech companies even more afraid of allowing anyone to access adult content…[by inventing] a private right of action for parents and guardians [to file nuisance lawsuits] against app stores…If minors download a web browser and visit porn websites, their parents can sue.  If minors download X or Bluesky or Reddit and happen upon some sort of sexualized image, their parents can sue.  If minors download a chat app and peers direct message them GIFs featuring cartoons committing violence, or inappropriate selfies, or any message at all, their parents can sue.  All a parent has to [do is belch out the word “]harm[“]…or “lewd”…

[A typical and representative] St. Tammany Parish [cop named] Christopher Cassidy pleaded guilty to [189 charges related to child & animal] pornography…[and] was sentenced to 15 years in prison for each count without…parole [plus condemnation to the] sex offender [registry] for…25 years [if he somehow manages to survive 2835 years in prison]…

Artificial “Intelligence”?

There is no part of this reeking pile of shit that fails to be stupid, so I’ll just comment instead of quoting it.  1) Things that are not alive cannot commit suicide.  2) “Cyborg” is not a synonym for “robot”; a cyborg has living parts.  3) A robot cannot be an “officer”.  4) A malfunctioning machine tumbling down a flight of stairs does not constitute a “jump”.  5) If a machine is observed malfunctioning and nothing is done, it’s no surprise if the situation worsens.  6) For a malfunctioning machine to break is not a “tragedy”.  7) A machine has neither mind nor personality and therefore cannot be “depressed”.  8) I think it highly unlikely that this robot was actually “unique” in any way.  9) Anyone who issued a “civil service officer card” to a piece of office equipment should be sacked for incompetence.  10) Robots cannot be “diligent” (see #7).  11) Too many technology reporters know nothing about technology.  12) What is possible in fantasy movies is in no way reflective of reality.

The Red Umbrella (#1414)

As long as sex work is marginalized, sex workers will be targeted for violence:

Two sex workers were violently assaulted in Edmonton [Alberta by]…a man [who] contacted both women through a website and arranged to meet them [early on July 6th]…At around 7 a.m…he attacked [the first victim, leaving her]…significantly injured and…unconscious…he [then] arranged to meet [the second victim]…around 7:50 a.m…the[n]…violently attacked…her…[leaving her] unconscious…[and stealing her] wallets, identification, cash and cell phones…detectives believe there may be more victims…

Torture Chamber (#1445)

I’m sure they helpfully yelled “Stop faking!” at him every time he coughed:

S[crews] at Brooklyn’s [abominable federal jail] ignored a…[prisoner]’s cancer diagnosis for months, letting a mass in his lungs grow to double its size while he coughed up enough blood to fill a milk carton…Terrence Wise…is [only] the latest [human being] subjected to what defense attorneys and judges describe as grievous medical mistreatment…[including a prisoner] who couldn’t use a CPAP machine for 85 days because the jail didn’t provide an extension cord, another…whose broken cheek had to be re-broken because the jail defied a judge’s order for treatment [until] it…improperly healed, and yet another who waited more than three months for emergency surgery for a twisted bowel…staff [also] lied about giving a…[prisoner] his antibiotics after his appendix burst…and…defied [another judge’s] order to send a…[prisoner] with a severe contagious MRSA infection to a hospital.  Instead, the[y just forced their victim into] a yellow jumpsuit to single him out as sick…

A Moral Cancer (#1450)

Crypto-moralists want the gullible to be afraid of even moderate alcohol consumption:

A[nother crypto-moralist] has [claim]ed that even moderate drinking can reduce life expectancy, [repeat]ing [scary tales prohibitionists have been pushing for two years]…Dr. Tim Stockwell, a [pseudo]scientist at the Canadian Institute for [Coming up with “]Research[” to Reinforce What Prohibitionists Want You To Believe], [made] the [absurdly-specific universal claim] that consuming an average of two drinks per week over a lifetime can shorten one’s life by 3 to 6 days.  One drink per day, seven a week, can cut life expectancy by 2 1/2 months…

The puritanical notion that lifelong deprivation of pleasure in the vague hope of adding a few extra minutes of senility and decrepitude to the far end of one’s old age – a time one has only a 50% chance of reaching in the first place, statistically – is so alien to my way of thinking, I’ve never been able to wrap my head around it, even as a concept for consideration.
