So many presents this week! Nattie Roman sent me this awesome book I first saw at Conner Habib’s a few months ago, plus a snakeskin wallet (my old one was kinda falling apart), a pair of snakeskin-print jeans and a set of Alfred Hitchcock Presents disks. Thanks so much, Nattie! On the same day as I got the book, I also received a towel warmer, but there was no card or note of any kind and Nattie says she didn’t send it, so whoever did please let me know so I can thank you properly! I took the drill set I mentioned last week out to Sunset and presented it to Grace, who immediately slapped a battery into it and used some doohickey to clean my car’s headlamps while uttering phrases like, “Now that’s what I’m talking about!” She’s almost finished the French drain project, then it’ll be on to the gutters and the footings she’ll need to pour before fixing the floor in the back corner of the house; meanwhile, I took the opportunity to pull as many movies and TV shows as I could find out of boxes and arrange them on temporary shelving. Slow going, for sure, but it’s steadily becoming more homelike, and that’s all I can ask for.

A week ago today, Square Peg was inspired by my column about the new developments at Sunset to send one of the power tools Grace asked me to put on my Amazon wishlist! This is a huge help to me; I need to provide any tool which Grace and Chekhov need to work on the house, buildings, yard, vehicles, etc, which means every tool I don’t need to buy myself is deeply appreciated! If you want to join the generous patron club, there are several more tools on the list, and if you prefer more fun or sexy things, those are there too. But no matter what you send (cash is nice too, and in addition to Paypal donations to maggiemcneill@earthlink.net, I now accept Square Cash at $MaggieMcNeill), you get onto my patron list, and I’m working out how to give everyone on there a special coupon code for discounts on my Kindle books. Speaking of that, keep your eyes open for news about The Essential Maggie McNeill; volume I is done and should be available in the next week or two, and then I’ll be starting on volume II right away (for probable release in September). The long summer days really increase my anxiety, but at least I’ve figured out a few ways of putting that nervous energy to good use!

Last week was another lovely one, full of gifts and good clients! Robin Aguilar sent me a snakeskin-print bodysuit which I’ll be modelling for y’all when it gets a bit cooler; I also got a compact music system for my incall from Siggi Bjarnason; and a new Chromebook (to replace my trusty but now-failing one) from J.A. Sutherland! I suspect all these generous gents were inspired by either my anniversary, or Friday the 13th, or both; if you missed those occasions last week but would like to send a gift or donation, I don’t mind when things come in a bit late. Really I don’t. Anyhow, I was also on Tina Dupuy‘s show last week, and by the time you read this I should have half of the essays for The Essential Maggie McNeill edited, which means it’s on course to be available in August. All that and an impromptu selfie, too! I thought my hair was a bit too messy here, but everybody seemed to like it on Twitter. And I guess a picture where I look kinda like I just got out of bed (actually, the shower) can’t help but be sexy.

As I was eating breakfast Thursday and preparing to head to the airport, there was a knock on my door. When I opened it, what should I find but a large box containing a brand-new roller-bag in snakeskin print! The sender only signed themselves “A children’s librarian in Texas”, so thank you, generous benefactor! Then while I was in LA, I received a pair of snakeskin-print skinny jeans (no sender note in the package) and a copy of Vangelis’ Rosetta and the book The End of Policing, both from Robin Aguilar. Thank y’all so much! While at the airport and on the plane I participated in Liara Roux’s Reddit “Ask Me Anything”, which was apparently very successful judging by the number of questions and replies. But the big news is that on Friday and Saturday I participated in a meeting at the ACLU offices in LA with roughly 30 sex workers, activists, academics, lawyers and other allies; we did some work I think will be considered very important, but I’ll let Cris Sardina announce it in her own time and manner. We also got some slightly heartening news from ACLU, but again, I’ll wait until they speak up about it before saying anything (and yes, I’m going to keep needling them on Twitter until then). This picture was taken at the very end; a few people had to leave early, and some didn’t want to be in the picture, but you’ll probably see more than one face you’ll recognize. So keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of what we created sometime in the next week or so!

Thanks in part to my foresight in getting ahead in my writing before I left for the UK, it wasn’t difficult to catch back up when I returned; I’ve made similar (though lesser) preparations for my trip to Los Angeles this weekend (leaving Seattle on Thursday & returning Sunday). And that’s good news not only for my stress levels, but for my off-blog writing as well; it looks as though I’ll finally be in the right headspace to start compiling The Essential Maggie McNeill, which I’ve been promising y’all for about three years now. Even better news: once I get in the swing of doing that work, I should be able to get out about three volumes of that in reasonably-rapid succession. I’ve also got another story in mind, and I’ll probably write it before the end of the summer. But back to the short term: at 10 AM PDT Thursday (17:00 UTC) I’ll be taking part in an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit organized by Liara Roux. More accurately, the AMA starts at that time; there are over 25 of us participating, so though it’s very unlikely you’ll see me there very early, I’ll try to answer as many questions as I can while at the airport and on the plane to LA, so roughly 4 – 8 PM PDT. Which reminds me: my venerable rolly-bag carry-on, which I’ve had since the mid-90s or thereabouts, seems close to giving up the ghost; one of her zippers is now broken and the other lost its pull-tab quite a while back. So I’ve put a new one I’d like on my Amazon wishlist, along with a lot of other nifty things I’d like; if you’re in a mood to give me a present, there’s your chance! Amazon arranges the list by order things were put on, so don’t be afraid to scroll down and get me something from further down the list if you’re so inclined. And anyone who does gets a copy of “Bird of Prey” if they haven’t got one already.

Whenever things in the demimonde go haywire, as with the recent ramping up of the US War on Whores, my own schedule gets much busier (as might be expected). Between interviews, consultations, answering questions from nervous sex workers, planning for moving this blog and my escort website offshore, joining Switter, dealing with the time-wasters & harassers these events have drawn out of the woodwork, modifying my upcoming article for the next print edition of Reason (on sale in about 3 weeks) and doing my regular paying work, I’ve also had to push myself harder to plan and write as many columns in advance as possible so I don’t have to stress about it so much while I’m in the UK with Brooke Magnanti. If you want to see me there, please let me know ASAP so we can schedule, and if you’re in the US you may want to take advantage of my “Two Out of Three” special. However, the week wasn’t all work work work; I received this lovely lilac dress and a very flattering casual top from Paddy from NY, some super-sexy black snakeskin tights from Cdk, and a very generous cash donation from a reader in the Netherlands who wanted to show his support during these dark times. Thank you all, and especially to my subscribers whose regular donations brighten my days; I couldn’t do this without y’all!

Now that Grace is here in Washington, I’ll actually be cooking a whole Thanksgiving dinner by myself for the first time since 2014. Oh, it probably won’t be as big and elaborate as the ones I used to make in the old days, but it’ll have turkey (no, it’s not dry and nasty when I make it) and dressing and gravy and pumpkin pie and all that. And I’ll get to spend a couple of days at Sunset, which will be nice for a change. Then Friday is the start of the Yuletide season; this year I managed to stay away from enough retail stores that I didn’t have to endure much-too-early holiday decorations & music, which is a promising start. See, I keep the holiday season for loved ones and generosity rather than conspicuous consumption, so it hasn’t been ruined for me. And that reminds me: starting Friday, I’m running my annual Toys for Tots special which for a small expenditure will allow you extra time with me while bringing a little bit of joy to needy children. It will run until December 11th, and you don’t even need to be in Seattle to take advantage of it! If you’re interested, please read Friday’s column for details; if you don’t want to wait until then just email me (serious inquiries only, please). Here’s to the holiday season; won’t you consider spending a little slice of it with me?

When one is down and feeling the weight of the world on one’s shoulders, it’s always such a wonderful thing to be reminded that one is loved, admired, cared about or otherwise has a positive effect on the lives of others. Gift-giving occasions like birthdays are really good in this way; it’s not so much the gift itself that does the trick (though a lot of those are nice too!), but rather the thought that someone took time out of their day to select, purchase and/or prepare that gift. It’s a tangible way of saying, “I’m thinking of you” or “You mean a lot to me.” For my birthday last week, Lorelei prepared me a lovely spread of food (I asked her for a dinnertime version of trick or treat and she delivered!) and we took a little break from Doctor Who to watch three of my favorite science fiction/horror films, the Professor Quatermass series (the third of which I wrote on almost four years ago). One of my gentlemen gave me some beautiful snake earrings, a new butter dish I’ve wanted for a while and the DVDs of the ’80s TV series Monsters; also in the monstrous vein, reader Ivan Dragomiloff gave the the DVDs for the Groovy Ghoulies show from my childhood. And because I love cartoons, two other readers (Jeremy Dunn and a gent who prefers to be anonymous) gave me discs I didn’t yet have of classic Warner Brothers cartoons. Besides all this, I got a larger number of cash donations than usual and a new subscriber (for which I’m always grateful). So thank you, all of you; I know I don’t always express it clearly or loudly enough, but it always means more to me than I can possibly explain.

Last week was quite busy, in a good way; I was working, writing, getting the last stages of the secret project done (I might even announce it next week), planning future trips and otherwise imposing order on the chaos which dominated my life for more than two years. In a very real way, the release of my new book was a symbol of that; it demonstrates that I’m at least as functional again as I was three years ago, and in some ways even more so. Speaking of the book, I’d like to remind you that it is indeed out, and to ask you to buy one (pretty please) and review it (pretty please with sugar on top); if you want an autographed copy directly from me, just use the links in yesterday’s column (and be sure to tell me how you’d like it inscribed), and I’ll send you one from my own shelf here. And if you want me to visit your area, now’s your chance: write me about helping set up book readings and/or speaking gigs, and while I’m there you can get around the usual minimum time requirement for hiring me! That’s what I call a win-win situation. If your situation doesn’t lend itself to assisting me in that way but you’d still like to show your appreciate above & beyond buying & reviewing the book, you could send money via PayPal or Google Wallet to get Lorelei & I dinner on Sunday night. Also, I’ve just added some new goodies to my Amazon wishlist; lovely fans keep buying me lovely things like Joe Satriani discs.

Today I’m flying off to Oklahoma, doped up enough to make it through without trouble (I hope). We’re down to the last bit of my super secret project, so I hope to be able to announce that in the next few weeks. But I’ll be back for the weekend and a few day after, then next week it’s off to San Francisco to speak at the Libertarian party convention there on April 29th. What that means for you, gentlemen, is that if you’re in Tulsa or Oklahoma City and want to book me for a least two hours, or if you’re in the Bay Area and want to book me for an appointment of any length, do let me know soon so we can get that set up. I’ve got the proof of The Forms of Things Unknown, so if I can get it all checked out we’ll be aiming for an April 26th book launch…and that means you’ll be able to sneakily get me to visit your city by the simple expedient of setting up a book event for me! I’ll have details in the official launch column, but do keep that in mind, and if you have bookstore connections you may want to start planning. One more thing: someone sent me a lovely brown sweater dress, but the package contained no info about who sent it. So if that was you, please let me know so I can thank you!
