We whores are sure these politicians are not our sons. – sign carried by protesters in Istanbul
The Leading Players in the Field, Not
Nepal’s Supreme Court has accused a prominent anti-trafficking group of detaining a woman against her will so she could undergo counselling for being a lesbian…The court ordered the release of the woman from a centre run by…Maiti Nepal…which has been championed by…Joanna Lumley and…Demi Moore…The group’s founder, Anuradha Koirala, was awarded a “CNN Heroes Award”…in 2010…and Moore hosted a television programme called “Nepal’s Stolen Children” highlighting the organisation’s work…
When “whore as criminal” and “whore as victim” collide: “…a [Nebraska] human trafficking bill…would [have given] immunity from prosecution to [minors]…arrested for prostitution…Amanda McGill…offered an amendment that…would place [them]…under the jurisdiction of a juvenile court…[for] treatment…” Because indefinite commitment is so much better than a criminal charge.
Somehow, I Doubt She Thought This Through
A woman…in Connecticut [called] police to complain about how she was being treated by a pimp…they did not find the pimp…but…did find…Jennifer Lowery with a…customer. Police charged Lowery with prostitution and 60-year-old Ricard Burford…with patronizing a prostitute…Lowery told them she…decided to conduct some business while waiting…
Melbourne artist Paul Yore is likely to be charged with producing child pornography following the seizure of several of his art works…which allegedly depicted sexual acts with children’s faces superimposed on them…Yore described the…seizure as “very small fragments of a collage of…thousands of different objects…basically junk I’ve been collecting”…
…Apryl Michelle Brown had black-market silicone injections which turned out to be BATHROOM SEALANT…“My body had a massive allergic reaction…the only way doctors could save my life was to amputate my buttocks…hands and feet”…
A profile of a former sex worker who’s assisted me with research on a number of occasions:
…Mary Setterholm…was a teenaged prostitute…[she] will graduate from Harvard Divinity School (HDS) with…a plan to help others find their way back from the edge of despair…She married young and had five children. The union was rocky and abusive. Once divorced, she returned to prostitution as a…way to take back some control…In 2003, a meeting with an inspiring nun named Sheila McNiff helped Setterholm to confront the abuse she had suffered as a child at the hands of clergy, and guide her back to education…Setterholm…[founded] Serenity Sisters…[a] support group…for exploited women and recovering prostitutes…She hopes to enter a Ph.D. program…expanding on her…thesis work, which explored the way prostitutes have been used in religious teachings as a stand-in for deviant or disbelieving members of society…
…Over the last 30 years…Iran is…moving in the [sexual] direction of Britain and the United States…Declining birth rates…signal a wider acceptance of contraceptives…the country has experienced the fastest drop in fertility ever recorded in human history…the average marriage age for men has gone up from 20 to 28 years old…and…women…five years later than a decade ago…The rate of divorce…has also skyrocketed…[previously] sex workers were virtually invisible…Now…there [are] close to 85,000…in Tehran alone…
…Adam was, until recently, making a living as a self-employed web designer in South Carolina…he was hired to make a porn site…[with male] masturbation videos…after the site had been online for…24 days, Adam’s home was raided by [a SWAT team] and all of his computer equipment was seized…Adam [said] “the [customer] was [allegedly]…paying guys to let him give them blowjobs and film it…it definitely wasn’t…on the site…I wasn’t expecting four armed guys to bust into my mother’s home and steal all of my assets. They’ve…ruined me…”
Note that Adam wasn’t charged with anything; the police stole his entire business to be indefinitely held as “evidence” of someone else’s misdemeanor.
This story about yet another Spanish city’s war on streetwalkers is not really noteworthy, but I love this picture which illustrates it.
…every defendant who has gone to trial has either been acquitted or had their conviction thrown out. The government’s case was weakened when…a key witness…refused to testify, saying he is afraid for himself and for his family. So prosecutors charged Abdullahi Farah with two counts of contempt of court and obstruction of a child sex trafficking case. He was convicted…in April…and…is facing a maximum of 20 years…for the obstruction conviction…and…life in prison [for contempt]…Legal experts say…it’s almost unheard of for prosecutors to come down so hard on one of their own witnesses…
Considering that “agents said Farah gave conflicting accounts and sketchy details” and the judge “said he had problems with Farah’s credibility”, I think the truth is obvious: sleazebag prosecutor Van Vincent tried to pretend a bunch of petty thugs were a gigantic conspiracy, but drew a judge who wouldn’t roll over for him and is taking it out on the only available scapegoat. Consider the prospect of life in prison for a contempt charge, and then tell me the US isn’t a police state yet.

Backwards Into the Future (TW3 #21)
A United Nations Special Rapporteur has recommended that provisions relating to sex work in Namibia be repealed, stating that the “stigma, discrimination and violence” suffered by sex workers…often discourages them from accessing public services…[and hampers] efforts to reduce the spread of HIV-AIDS…Magdalena Sepúlveda states that…criminalisation of sex work…creates a climate…that fosters further violence and discrimination…
Melissa Gira Grant published a short photoessay on sex worker participation in the current demonstrations in Istanbul, in earlier demonstrations in Madrid, New York and Mexico City, and in the Lyon church-occupation that launched the sex worker rights movement.
…On 30 May 2013…Ye Haiyan was detained by police after being assaulted at her home…[she] is an advocate for the rights of sex workers and people living with HIV/AIDS…[who] has been consistently targeted…because of her work…[she] managed to send out a series of messages on Twitter appealing for help…
…politicians have called a roundtable meeting…to look for ways to control street prostitution in South Auckland. The meeting…may lead to amending or abandoning a bill…to give…the Auckland…police powers to arrest both prostitutes and clients who engage in commercial sex in a banned area…
Marc Randazza thinks of a clever way to attack “revenge porn” sites:
Adult entertainment attorney Marc Randazza filed two civil cases against revenge porn site UGotPosted.com on counts of distributing child pornography and failing to comply with 18 U.S.C. § 2257…the site posted…“sexually explicit images” of 14-year-old Abigail Talley’s [genitals]…2257 requires individuals or entities hosting adult content to inspect a government-issued form of ID to determine the name and age of every performer featured and to keep records of such information…had the defendants complied, it would have been apparent that the plaintiff was a minor…Despite the ongoing case, and intervention by an FBI agent…the defendants have yet to…remove the photos…
Sex Workers Against Trafficking (TW3 #139)
The main tip-off on…two sisters kidnapped from Dhaka…came from a sex worker in Pune, who contacted one of her relatives in Kolkata, who in turn contacted the girls’ relatives in Bangladesh…these girls had allegedly been lured with false promises and kidnapped by a…close acquaintance…[who] sold them to a brothel…
Government actors issue a warning of a problem created entirely by government actions:
…Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro [Tennessee] Police Department…said sex offenders tend to congregate at hotels…”It meets the statutory requirements for them when they can’t live elsewhere”…The TBI confirmed 16 convicted sex offenders listed their home address at the Regal Inn…[and] said there is nothing illegal about hotels renting to sex offenders…
…Twenty-five years after it first indicted [Jesse] Friedman, the Nassau County [New York] District Attorney’s Office…could completely exonerate him. Out of a dozen major child-sex-ring cases that roiled the country between 1984 and 2005, Jesse’s is one of the last convictions still standing…in November of 1987…postal inspectors intercepted…child pornography addressed to [his father]…police admitted that not one of the 30 children they…interviewed…reported any kind of abuse. But…they kept re-interviewing the children—some as many as 15 times, and often for hours at a stretch…The children began to buckle, telling tales of extraordinary abuse…the Friedmans’ computer class was [claimed to be] a nonstop nightmare of coerced sex acts, where Arnold and Jesse abused kids…in plain view of other students…playing “naked leapfrog,” sodomizing kids as they jumped from one to the next…[children were supposedly] molested an average of six times during every one of the 20 90-minute classes they took…
…Of those who report their rapes, around 4–5% also describe experiencing orgasm. But the true numbers are likely much higher…[one] child therapist…[wrote on Reddit]…“There have been very few studies on orgasm during rape, but the research so far shows numbers from 10% to over 50% having this experience…In professional discussions, colleagues report similar numbers”…Despite what many rapists would like to believe, arousal does not mean that an assault was enjoyable or that a victim was asking for it…our bodies respond to sex…entirely without our permission or intention. Orgasm during rape isn’t an…expression of pleasure. It’s…a physical response…like breathing, sweating, or an adrenaline rush. Therapists commonly use the analogy of tickling. While tickling can be pleasurable, when it is done against someone’s wishes it can be very unpleasant experience…[yet] the one being tickled will continue laughing…
The supposed penetration of “sex trafficking” into every nook and cranny of the U.S. continues; notice the Profession of Faith in the first one:
Sex trafficking is real in South Dakota and won’t…be tolerated…”I still think there are a lot of naive people…who don’t feel it happens in their community but it is happening in their community,” Dawn Stenberg…of the Junior League of Sioux Falls…said…awareness…includes…hotel employees watching for young women who frequently come through their doors, and banks watching for suspicious transactions…[such as] “backpage.com transactions. They see a lot of that illegal activity through that,” Stenberg said…
If that kind of surveillance state doesn’t scare you, consider instead the rather disgusting sexual fantasies of Florida cops and bureaucrats: “Orange County announced the creation of a task force aimed at stopping human trafficking in central Florida…Some of the victims…forced into prostitution are as young as 12 years old…most of the victims are children…Kathy…was 11 when she was sold to sex traffickers before being rescued by the FBI…”
Obfuscation via Dysphemisms (TW3 #319)
Tulsa, OK continues its wicked crusade to charge whores with felonies via “use of a computer to violate state statute”. And just for good measure, they also charged one of them with the “crime” of owning a house. Don’t read the comments unless you want to feel ill.

Kelly appeared on the Sex With Timaree podcast to speak about her “Whoremom” project; please give it a listen and spread the link around!
In King Henry VIII’s day, it was believed that pregnancy needed a female orgasm, otherwise she didn’t conceive. (And as King Henry had trouble getting his wives pregnant, you can imagine the rumours at court.)
So, if a man was charged with rape then, and the woman was shown to be pregnant, she “must” have enjoyed it, and so he wasn’t a rapist. You might remember a similar (asinine) comment about “legitimate” rape from a politician.
He wasn’t a politician – that was his problem. There is a scientific basis for what he was TRYING to say – however he completely botched it. Since he wasn’t a politician – he didn’t know that it was an issue he needed to remain clear of.
Not to worry – he lost the election and now we still have a big government liberty grabbing Progressive in that Senate seat!
Yay!!!
What he did say was nonsense. What was he trying to say?
Yes, what he said was nonsense.
What he was trying to say is …
A. Pregnancy through rape is rare – which indeed it is … I believe the chances are around 5%.
B. Forcible, Violent Rape (what he called “Legitimate” rape – distinguished from less violent “date rape”) can, due to physical stressors – result in the victim spontaneously aborting / miscarrying the fetus. Though we don’t know how often this happens – we DO know it happens.
What he said was no more outrageous than any 20 things Joe Biden says every single day – and yet, you do not see the “outrageous outrage” directed at Joe Biden that you saw directed at Todd Aiken.
Aiken wasn’t a professional politician like his opponent – Claire “I’m Government for Life” McCaskill. Career politicians don’t make rookie mistakes like Aiken did – then again … career politicians don’t do a damn thing when they are in office either.
Aiken shouldn’t have gone down that road. He should have said that Roe V. Wade is established law and a U.S. Senator has almost zero opportunity for overturning it. End of story. And that IS a fact.
And it doesn’t matter how “rare” pregnancy through rape is … just as it’s irrelevant how “rare” a viable newborn is killed during a late term abortion. Funny though – Todd Aiken’s detractors are PERFECTLY FINE with the “rare” botched abortion argument. So they are hypocrites in this regard.
So now we have Claire McCaskill still in that seat – and she’ll vote to remove our liberties one by one while continuing the march toward the Nanny state and spending everyone’s money. But, by God – I guess the practice of abortion is protected in her … huh?
“just as it’s irrelevant how “rare” a viable newborn is killed during a late term* abortion. Funny though – Todd Aiken’s detractors are PERFECTLY FINE with the “rare” botched abortion argument. So they are hypocrites in this regard.”
Whoa there… that’s completely incomparable. Totally opposite uses of the concept of being rare.
Aiken: take this rare event and treat it as normal.
Logic: not OK.
Pro-choice people on near-term* abortions: This is a rare event, therefore it’s acceptable not to base policy around it.
Logic: OK
These positions are consistent.
* (‘term’ means the expected time of delivery. So, the term ‘late term’ is butchering medical terminology. It would be ‘near-term’)
The chance of pregnancy after rape is about 5% — though there have been suggestions that it can be higher than this. After consensual intercourse, the chance of pregnancy is about 5%.
There is a theory that the Fallopian tubes contract during rape; this is generally discounted, and there is no evidence for its existence.
Spontaneous miscarriage (or spontaneous abortion) is common, with estimates of between 20% and 50% of all pregnancies. I cannot find any data showing that the rate is higher after rape.
There is also the “hostile sperm” theory — that if the sperm is “unknown” a response can be the development of pre-eclampsia, with spontaneous foetal abortion. The idea comes from the concept that the mother “needs” paternal support during and after pregnancy, and must be “accustomed” to the father’s sperm. The theory certainly supports some of the facts of pre-eclampsia, though pre-eclampsia usually occurs in late pregnancy. Untreated, pre-eclampsia can progress to full-blown eclampsia, with possible foetal death and miscarriage, but also with a very considerable risk of the mother’s death. I cannot find any data to show that pre-eclampsia is higher after rape.
It’s hilarious to see rubes like krulac complain about a “progressive” like Claire McCaskill (who is closer to Todd Aiken than she is to being a progressive) as if the republican would have behaved any differently or better. The problem with McCaskill is that she’s a republican, but Aiken would have been even worse.
The Iran thing is interesting. From what I understand, the urban people in Iran are chafing against the religious authorities but the more rural population is still very conservative and supports the current regime.
Maggie McNeill must be experiencing schadenfreude(pleasure at their sorrow) over the news about Sweden considering the Swedish prostitution prohibition model that say is wonderful. I too think it’s great and hope their genitals fall off. It was entirely predictable when you don’t use latex condoms with people who aren’t your spouse and it’s asking for trouble in venereal diseases and unwanted pregnancies when you don’t. Certainly since the invention and selling of the of the latex condom in 1920 A.D., having sex with professional prostitutes has become increasingly safer than having sex with amateurs because whores don’t want your diseases or babies and do everything to prevent that provided that they have the means to do so. Maggie McNeill has stated that whores were safer than amateurs before 1920 too which I believe as well but am a little more skeptical about. I know for sure that having sex with whores has become safer in preventing passing venereal disease and unwanted pregnancy than anyone else since the invention of latex condoms, and that includes your spouse too. It may seem odd to say that but statisticly it’s true.
RE: Traffic Jam,
This may be a quibble, but I see an overreaching prosecutor who for once is being checked by a judge, not proof that the US is a police state. I won’t deny that we are fast approaching that point, but I’d make the argument that if we were already there, this blog would probably not exist.
Not true. Not all police states are totalitarian; the latter is a subset of the former.
Maggie,
What are you thought about STDs (Sexually transmitted diseases). There is prevalence of STDs like HPV, HIV, Herpes, HSV1, HSV2, Hepatitis, genital warts etc that demands careful and healthy approach to sex life. According to CDC’s statistics some approximately 50% adults are infected with various types of STDs, HPV being the most common among them. There are more than 40 HPV types that can infect genital areas of males and females. These HPV strains can also infect mouth and throat through oral sex that cause cancer in infected area in body. Scary part is that most infected persons do not realize they are infected or that they are passing the virus on to a sex partner. I am looking for truth about STDs because it is related to health. If a person is healthy he/she can have good sex life…
Professionals are extremely careful about that, and only 3-5% of all STIs are linked to either side of a paid-sex transaction; alas, the amateurs who spread 95-97% of STIs aren’t nearly so scrupulous with their health (and that of others).
It certainly isn’t the first time the FBI has done this sort of thing. In the Eighties they sold child pornography through the mail.
Demi Moore was fooled. Most of us are, at one time or another. Hopefully, she’ll be more careful, but I doubt that CNN will be.
When people wonder why I don’t really trust the psychiatric profession, well, this sort of thing is why. Especially where children and teenagers are concerned (since the law treats them as the same thing) I see that it is just too easy to declare somebody incompetent and do to them what you couldn’t do to a convicted criminal.
A Swedish man wouldn’t dare carry a condom around; he’d be arrested as a dirty oppressor of women john. And a Swedish woman wouldn’t dare carry a condom around, lest the police star following her to see if they can find any dirty oppressor of women johns to arrest. Besides, why should I need a condom? I’m not one of those dirty whores, right?
No, I don’t think she thought it through.
He should’ve stuck to hardcore porn starring nineteen year old women with small breasts. Oh, wait…
People with 3D printers are finding cool uses for silicone bathroom sealent. This is not one of those uses.
Well, she’s not a priestess, and she’s not a practicing harlot, but there is something of the vexya about her.
And now I have a birthday party to attend. One of my nephews is eleven years old, and his big sister is… twenty-one I think? Twenty-two? I’ll ask. Anyway, their birthdays are within a week of each other, so they often celebrate together. Today, the circus.
It’s twenty-two.
Not to say that there’s a link (though I think there might be), but Iran has also implemented something along the lines of a basic income. As a general populous becomes more affluent, the birth rate declines. That’s one reason we needn’t fret so much over the idea that some immigrant group is going to come to America and out-populate us all. As soon as they become as affluent as the rest of us, they’ll have fewer babies like the rest of us.
What happened to Adam is what you get when the guiding principle is “whatever it takes.”
Maybe she just likes the sun? 😉
A police state? I think a case can be made that we are. But in that case, haven’t we always been? Are you now or have you ever been…
And if you decide not to pay the $19.95 this month, do they tell your wife, kids, etc. that it’s all a lie?
I’m a little worried that the tinfoil hat crowd will use this to declare prostitution itself to be a UN plot.
I can recommend that photo essay. It doesn’t take long to go over, and it’s well worth the little time it does take.
“Principal, get a room with me and leave the schoolchildren alone”.
Love it.
Yes, I would think that arrests for disturbing the peace could be made, whether or not money changes hands, whether or not those disturbing the peace are prostitutes or clients or somebody else.
OK, I’ll do more later. This past half a week…
I spent FOUR HOURS Friday chasing a jar of Neastea instant unsweetened decaf tea. And another hour Tuesday. I now have a quarter jar I had over at Laura’s. I’ve got friends and family promising to alert me if they find any for sale. Did the DEA move instant unsweetened decaf tea to Schedule One or something? It would be easier to find acid.
Today, I’m going to try to find it at a store near Laura’s place, and if not I’m hitting one in the opposite direction on the way home. I can order it online, but I was hoping to avoid the added expense and the need to buy a dozen or so jars at a time.
.
As much as I likes my porn, I’m against the revenge porn. Somebody should be seen by the world because she wants to be, out of a desire to be paid for it, out of a desire to show off, because it’s exciting, whatever. But only people who want the world to see them naked should have the world see them naked. That’s why I would be opposed to the Naked in School Program in real life. It’s great for fantasy, not for reality.
Even in today’s world, the way REAL traffickers are caught is because sex workers and their clients catch them. And that’s with all the things which are making life tough for sex workers in places like India… and the United States. How many more would be caught if these impediments were removed?
So what’s the problem? The police know where the registered sex offenders are, the sex offenders have somewhere to live, the hotels make a little money, and most importantly of all people are being punished beyond the terms of their sentences, which seems to be the real point. Really if the police, the courts, the society at large want these people to be unable to mix for society for the rest of their lives, then they need to give them life sentences. Actually, a lot of them probably don’t deserve a sentence matching the life expectancy of a housefly, but if we as a society really want to punish them for life, then we need to just say so and do that, and not play these silly, cruel games.
There’s this tendency to say “a child would never lie about that!” or even to say “how could a child lie about that? How could they even think of such horrid, perverted things?”
Because they’re being asked in explicit detail and made to feel like criminals themselves if they don’t give the answers which are wanted! Children will describe bending steel bars and heat vision too, not because they know somebody with these superpowers, but because they’ve seen it in movies and comic books. And if pressed hard enough and long enough, they’d tell the investigators that the reporter with the glasses bent steel and set stuff on fire with his eyes… and then molested them. Not because children are naturally liars or perverts, or because they hate reporters or glasses, but because they are even less able to stand up to enhanced interrogation than are adults.
I wonder if neofeminists consider women who experience orgasm during rape to be gender traitors? It would make much sense given the facts, but then neofeminists seem to consider facts a male perversion.
So now they’re not fourteen or thirteen, but twelve and eleven. I predict that they’ll be ten before prime-time news starts saying, “now wait a minute…”
Tulsa was the general area where Crystal Cole the Neurosoup girl had to report in every so often for many years.
Best of luck to her.
