My life looks like a dumpster fire.  –  Eligio Regalado

This really rocking cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” by a Franco-Ethiopian band was called to my attention by C.J. Ciaramella; I know Grace would’ve really enjoyed it.  The links above it were provided by Popehat, Dan Savage (x2), Guy Hamilton-Smith, Jesse Walker, Mike Masnick, and Ryan Marino, in that order.

I find paywalls distasteful, and so many people find this blog valuable as a resource I just can’t bring myself to install one.  Furthermore, I find ad delivery services (whose content I have no say over) even more distasteful.  But as I’m now semi-retired from sex work, I can’t self-sponsor this blog by myself any longer.  So if you value my writing enough that you would pay to see it if it were paywalled, please consider subscribing; there are four different levels to fit all budgets.  Or if that doesn’t work for you, please consider showing your generosity with a one-time donation; you can Paypal to maggiemcneill@earthlink.net or else email me at the same address to make other arrangements.  Thanks so much!

Resubmitting the same materials does not alter the outcome.

Without Let or Hindrance

Children abducted by the state are typically harmed more than children left in their homes:

…Ke’Torrius “K.J.” Starkes Jr. [was killed by]…the Alabama [“]child protective services[“] agency [when]…he [was]…left inside a car…in Birmingham for [more than five] hours during the middle of the day [in July during a heat wave]…Courtney French, the family’s attorney, [said]…“He died a brutal death”…during the 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. window when [the incompetent bureaucrat]…left [him] in…the car…heat index values…ranged from 101 to 105 degrees…the [state had abducted the toddler from his family for unreported reasons, and were forcing]…his [parents to jump through expensive, time-consuming, and degrading hoops]…as part of a court-ordered process…to [get] their [child back from the incompetent bureaucrats whose negligence eventually killed him]…“This would have never happened had K.J. been with his parents,” French added…

HIV Cure (#1129)

Not a cure, but the next best thing:

…the first HIV drug that offers 100% protection with…twice-yearly injections [has been approved by the US FDA and]…stands to save millions of lives across the globe.  The makers…[have] sign[ed] royalty-free licensing agreements with six generic manufacturers to produce and supply it…lenacapavir…[belongs to] a class of drugs known as capsid inhibitors, which provide almost 100% protection against HIV infection…the capsid is a protein shell that houses and protects viral genetic material…once inside the host cell, the capsid is shed, and the virus begins copying itself.  Lenacapavir stops that from happening…In 2022, lenacapavir was approved…to treat HIV in those already infected, but long-acting prevention medication has been much more difficult to realize…

Feudalism Redux (#1500)

Forced-birth fanatics are trying to extend their crazed jihad outside their own borders, so as to establish ownership over their subjects:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton [keeps trying to impose]…Texas…abortion laws…on…[citizens of] New York [by suing]…Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck for refusing to [rob]…Dr. Margaret Carpenter [of $100,000 and give it to Paxton]…in accordance with the New York State Shield Law…[in response] Paxton [had a fit in which his head spun 360o and he projectile-vomited vile totalitarian propaganda about how he personally owns every woman] in…Texas [and he will put a curse on anyone who disagrees]…

No Escape (#1537)

The human and financial costs of our society’s sick infatuation with incarceration are staggering:

Three [typical and representative] Oregon [screws] are named in new lawsuits…[because they] sexually abus[ed] young prisoners at [two juvenile dungeons]…more than a decade ago…[as is typical in such cases,] the…victims…reported the…abuse but were ignored or “actively silenced”.  Three women who were teenagers between 1999 and 2008 [were abused by a screw named] Scott J. Scrabeck [who repeatedly] groped them, forced them to [give him hand jobs] and masturbated while watching them shower…“[They wanted it],” [Scrabeck] said…Another woman sued…[a “]group life coordinator[” named] Alex Blevins…[for] sexually abus[ing] her [at least] 10 times between 2009 and 2011, starting when she was 16…Blevins…was fired…in 2014 after [he sexually harassed female] staff…A third suit…[is against a screw named] Robert L. Blacksmith…[whose victim was silenced] by threatening to withhold family visits…Blacksmith was fired in 2006 after he was caught [stalking another potential victim via] the state computer system…and…was indicted…on…child sex abuse [charges] around th[at same] time…[but] fled the state…and [was] arrested…and [imprisoned in California for similar crimes]…

The Cop Myth (#1540)

Sleeping with a cop is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do:

[A Connecticut cop named] Gregory Zach…was arrested [on July 23 for repeatedly]…threatening…[and] assault[ing his girlfriend, but]…was [also rewarded with a paid vacation.  Some of his fellow cops]…”began to hear rumors” that Zach…had…spit [in the woman’s face] “in front of numerous witnesses”…and she…detailed multiple occasions where Zach became angry with her for talking with other men, threatened her and took her phone from her…in…April…he grabbed her arm and [threatened]…to punch her, then shoved her onto a bed before texting her “Too bad I didn’t break your [fucking] arm the other night.”  [On] June 8…he [attacked her to]…keep her from [going out with friends, then]…on June 26…showed up at her home unannounced…in [his magical clown costume], walked in, and slapped her on the face, then grabbed her by the shoulders, threw her on the bed, and began choking her…On July 2…he [stalked her]…to…her workplace…[and] began insulting her…before…spit[ting] in [her] face…Zach was previously suspended…after…[punch]ing a woman…in the face [in 2009].  The city of Stamford settled the case [for $230,000] in April 2014…

The Cop Myth (#1560)

Do I really need to say, “Don’t let one live with you, either”?

A [typical and representative New York cop]…is being held without bail [for the] murder [of his roommate].  Edison Irizarry…[shot]…Casey Cuddy…a psychiatric mental health nurse and actor who…in November 2022…[accepted Irizarry’s response to his] classified ad…seeking a roommate…Irizarry[‘s motive, if any, for the murder of Cuddy is unknown]…

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #22)

A whole gang of sexual predators specifically targeting traumatized girls:

Five women who were abused as children by Rotherham grooming gangs were also raped by [cops] when they were as young as 12 years old…Three [typical and representative cops] have been arrested [so far]…while a fourth [rapist cop]…has since died.  One [cop]…raped [his victims] in a [pigmobile and got her to submit by]…threaten[ing] to hand her back to a gang to suffer “multiple rapes” i[nstead of just the one by him.  Other cops either]…turn[ed] a blind eye or participat[ed] in the grooming between the mid-90s and early 2000s.  The wider scandal affected at least 1,400 girls in Rotherham and continued until at least 2013…

They are trying to turn us into immigration agents.  –  Medicaid official

Time Warp

WTVT in Tampa, Florida recently published a bizarrely-anachronistic article that reads like something from the height of “sex trafficking” hysteria, 13 years ago.  Given that it’s a Fox affiliate in a Trumpist stronghold, I reckon that isn’t too surprising, but it still evokes a sort of negative nostalgia to see the sentence, “A first-of-its-kind study said there are 200,000 Floridians who are living as sex slaves”, in a 2025 article, followed by a version of the Shahada; the bizarre statement that “Florida is unlucky in that it has a plethora of large cities all connected by highways, slews of big events, and large airports and seaports” (because a large economy is bad?); the even stranger statement that “Florida is a hotbed of things like tourism, entertainment and agriculture” (the word “hotbed” generally has a negative connotation); and quotes from Selah Freedom, a Sarasota-based “rescue” organization that makes its money via a religious “diversion” program for sex workers so unpopular, the only way it gets participants is by cops literally forcing or frightening women into it.

Only Rights Can Stop the Wrongs (#752)

The political crowbar called the “TIP report” has been largely disused since the first Trump regime:

…the Trump [regime has] cut 1,353 positions at [the] State [Department]…eviscerating…the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, [which]…for 25 years…has worked to [spread misogynistic propaganda] and [impose sex work criminalization] around the world.  Its remit includes producing an annual [propaganda tool]…that grades every country on the issue…[as an excuse to impose] economic repercussions from the US, [but in reality has been widely recognized as a politically-motivated sham]…This year’s report was due on June 30, but has not been released…

Panopticon (#1409)

As I predicted just 18 months ago, Amazon’s retreat from fascist collaboration was short-lived:

Ring founder Jamie Siminoff is back at the helm of the surveillance doorbell company, and with him is the surveillance-first-privacy-last approach that made Ring one of the most maligned tech devices.  Not only is the company reintroducing new versions of old features which would allow [cops] to [pressure]…Ring users [directly], it is also introducing a new feature that would allow [cops] to [demand] live-stream access [without a warrant, thus]…rolling back…the reforms it’s made in the last few years by easing  [warrantless] access to footage from millions of homes in [order]…to spy on protestors…find people who have had abortions or track down [migrants].  Siminoff has [also] announced…that the company will now…be “AI first”…[probably meaning] face recognition…employees at Ring will [now] have to show proof that they [they are too intellectually lazy to think or write for themselves] in order to get promoted…

No Escape (ROTW #11)

The last time we saw this lawsuit, the number was 95:

Another 107 people [have] filed complaints…against the state [of Illinois] for…allowing rampant sexual abuse in…juvenile [prisons], joining 800 other…victims who have filed…lawsuits in the last 14 months…In May 2024, 95 people [victimized] in [the] facilities filed a lawsuit [over] continued abuse by [screws and other] employees…another hundred…filed a complaint the following month and nearly 300 joined them in September.  The 907 [victims were]…abuse[d] from as long ago as 1996 to as recently as 2023…and…ranged in age from 9 to 17.  More than 500…[were] abused between 2000 and 2009, and 86% are male…Fifteen complaints..[specifically name] current Eldorado Mayor Rocky James…[who was a screw] for 29 years…[before transitioning into politics via] the [screw] union…James [raped]…minors for at least 12 years…[often after] handcuff[ing them] to [their] bed[s] before…[rap]ing [them] repeatedly…

Thought Control (#1513)

The urge to censor is a dangerous mental illness:

Members of North Idaho’s interlibrary loan consortium [have]…officially dissolved the Cooperative Information Network that allowed materials to be shared…[among 16] libraries…libraries will no longer share books between each other freely at the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.  An online collection with almost 24,000 e-books and audio books shared between the libraries is also up in the air…the dissolution was spurred by concerns of a potential lawsuit…[over] Idaho’s [censorship]…law that went into effect last year [and] requires libraries to…restrict…minors from accessing [not only books, but also] the…catalog in…which [they are listed]…

Thought Control (#1538)

Just keep plunging that ice pick in; the bad thoughts will go away eventually:

The [highly-politicized] Alabama Public Library [board has begun]…the process of [banning books on]…gender…[using one of the mad emperor’s illegal proclamations as an excuse].  APLS chairman John Wahl sent a letter to every public library in the state…demanding submission to the order or risk losing funding…The proposed rule changes will require 45 days of public comment and further administrative actions, meaning any changes to the code will not take effect for several months…

I Spy (#1553)

If you think this will go away when Trump does, you are a fool:

The [IRS] is building a computer program [to] give [ICE goons] unprecedented access to…the home addresses of [all American]…taxpayers…In the past, when [pigs wanted to root in]…IRS data…[they were required to] give the IRS the full legal name of the target, an address on file and an explanation of why the information was relevant to a criminal inquiry…[because] privacy laws [do not] allow…“the sharing of…hundreds of thousands of tax records for a broad-based [harassment campaign]”…Trump’s [henchmen, however, do not care if what they’re doing is]…illegal [or even] criminal…in [fact, this kind of rooting]…is…a felony that can carry a penalty of up to five years in prison…

And it isn’t just the IRS:

[ICE goons] will be given access to the personal data of the nation’s 79 million Medicaid enrollees, including home addresses and ethnicities, to [allow them to hunt] immigrants…and [anyone else they please]…some [Medicaid] officials [and politicians] have challenged the legality of…[the] move, [to no avail]…

We deserve to know who is shooting us in the face even when they have their badge covered up.  –  Kyle McDonald

Pyrrhic Victory (#1275)

The very first prosocial application of facial recognition technology I’ve seen:

A new site, FuckLAPD.com, is using public records and facial recognition technology to allow anyone to identify [LAPD cops] they have a picture of.  The tool, made by artist Kyle McDonald, is designed to help people identify cops who may otherwise try to conceal their identity, such as covering their badge or serial number…The tool allows users to upload an image…to search over 9,000 LAPD headshots obtained via public record requests…image processing happens on the device, and no photos or data are transmitted or saved on the site…“This data has been provided in response to either public records requests or public records lawsuits…[so] fucklapd.com is not scraping any data”…Clicking “view profile” under the result[s sends users] to the Watch the Watchers site by the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition…In 2018 McDonald made another tool called ICEspy which…does much the same thing as FuckLAPD.com…That tool originally used a Microsoft API, b[ut] Microsoft [censored] it…[so] McDonald…recently relaunched the tool to run locally on devices…

I Spy (#1533)

The writer of this article is one of those fools who thinks anything involving gadgets is laudable:

[Trump] He[nchman] Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants [to force] everyone to wear a smartwatch, fitness tracker, or other [medical surveillance device] as part of his…agenda [to ban vaccines].  “My vision is every American is [subject to my surveillance] within four years,” he [bloviated, absurdly characterizing government surveillance as]… “people taking control over their own health”…[and further explaining that he wants every meal to become a bean-counting ordeal.  Fascist]…companies stand to benefit from a government-backed [demand] for Americans to buy their products, and Kennedy plans to soon [waste tens of millions in] “one of the biggest advertising campaigns in HHS history to encourage Americans to use wearables”…Kennedy [also] plans to use [the] data…[to] track…and [persecute]…autis[tic people]…

Welcome to the Future (#1540)

I’m fine with this as long as it’s only tech companies harming each other:

As Scale AI seeks to reassure customers that their data is secure following [Facebook]’s $14.3 billion investment, leaked files and the startup’s own contractors indicate it has some serious security holes.  Scale AI routinely uses public Google Docs to track work for high-profile customers like Google, [Facebook], and [Twitter], leaving…training documents labeled “confidential” accessible to anyone with the link…the…method [is] efficient for its vast army of at least 240,000 contractors and presents clear cybersecurity and confidentiality risks…sensitive details about…[those] contractors [were also exposed], including their private email addresses and whether they were suspected of “cheating”…There’s no indication that [the company has yet] suffered a breach because of this….[but] such practices…leave the company and its clients vulnerable to various kinds of hacks, such as hackers impersonating contractors or uploading malware into accessible files…

Property of the State (#1545)

How long will Western society allow cops and prosecutors to terrorize traumatized women?

…Women have faced pregnancy criminalization for decades, especially under drug laws…Pregnancy Justice has tracked more than 1,800 pregnancy-related arrests and detentions between 1973, when Roe v. Wade was decided, and 2022, when the decision was overturned.  But in the first year after Dobbs, Pregnancy Justice documented 210 pregnancy-related prosecutions, the most they’d found in a single year since they started this research.  And 22 cases involved…miscarriages, [mostly] in states with bans, like Idaho, but also in states with more liberal abortion policies…Alabama prosecutes more pregnant [women] than any other state…[especially] in Etowah County, wh[ere politicians and cops routinely abuse]…a 2006 chemical endangerment law intended to protect children from meth labs…[because] these cases are…more about emotion than science…serious charges are often dropped or reduced [due to lack of evidence], but by then, many of the harms of incarceration have already taken hold…[including bond fees,] reputationally damaging news headlines, [state abduction] of their other children, [and loss of] housing and employment…

Torture Chamber (#1546)

This will continue until the evil US immigration policy is reformed:

…911 calls from 10 of the nation’s largest…migra[nt dungeons] found that serious medical incidents are rising [in most] of the [cages]…at least 60 percent of the c[age stack]s…had reported serious pregnancy complications, suicide attempts, [and rapes].  Since January, these 10 [dungeons] have collectively placed nearly 400 emergency calls…50…involved…cardiac episodes, 26…seizures…17…head injuries…seven…suicide attempts…[and] six [rapes by screws.  But]…experts [say] the true number of medical emergencies is far higher…[because] many serious incidents [are ignored by staff, who prefer to yell “Stop faking!” at their victims instead of helping them]…Even among those that did [deign to call for] outside help, a third of all the calls had vague or nonexistent descriptions, with details often [censored] by authorities…

Creepy Coppers (ROTW #21)

Your “leaders” call this “correction”, but you don’t have to:

A [typical and representative Kansas screw named]…Brice Berk…[has been] arrest[ed for making]…and distribut[ing] child pornography…after a [report from] the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children…

Welcome to the Future (#1548)

Another of the many reasons not to play with chatbots:

…For years, OpenAI gave users the option to delete their conversations with ChatGPT, rather than let their personal queries linger on corporate servers.  Now, they can’t.  A badly misguided court order in a copyright lawsuit requires OpenAI to store all consumer ChatGPT conversations indefinitely—even if a user tries to delete them…ChatGPT’s 300+ million users submit over 1 billion messages to its chatbots per day, often for personal purposes…reveal[ing] personal details that, in aggregate, create a comprehensive portrait of a person’s entire life…Putting users in control of their data is a fundamental piece of privacy protection.  Nineteen states, the European Union, and numerous other countries already protect the right to delete under their privacy laws.  These rules exist for good reasons: retained data can be sold or given away, breached by hackers, disclosed to [rooting cops], or even used to manipulate a user’s choices through online behavioral advertising…The court granted the order based on [the authoritarian assumption] that users who delete their data are probably copyright infringers looking to “cover their tracks”…

It creates a categorically new scale and nature of privacy invasion and potential for abuse that was literally not possible any time before in human history.  –  Nathan Wessler

Pyrrhic Victory (#1072)

It’s far too late to stuff this djinni back into its bottle:

[Cop shops] and [spook houses] have found a [sleazy] new way to skirt…laws that curb how they use facial recognition: a…[surveillance system] that can track people using attributes like body size, gender, hair color and style, clothing, and accessories.  The tool, called Track and built by the video analytics company Veritone, is [already ab]used by 400 customers…all over the US…“The whole vision behind Track in the first place,” says Veritone CEO Ryan Steelberg, was “if we’re not allowed to track people’s faces, how do we [allow pigs and spooks to violate the spirit those laws]…to…malicious[ly target people for state violence]?”…The product has drawn [anemic] criticism from the American Civil Liberties Union…Steelberg said that the number of attributes Track uses to identify people will continue to grow…[and] the company is less than a year from being able to run it on live video feeds…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1172)

All cops will have these within a few years:

…[Facebook] is working on facial recognition for [its] Ray-Ban glasses…combining facial recognition with a camera feed…is something…big tech…has been able to technically pull off, but has previously decided to not release.  There are serious, inherent risks with the idea of anyone being able to instantly [dox] anyone who just happens to walk past their camera…The move is an obvious about-face from…[a company whose] PR [department] chewed my ass off when I dared to report in October that a pair of students took [Facebook]’s Ray-Ban glasses and combined them with off-the-shelf facial recognition technology…[to] capture…a person’s face, [run] it through an easy to access facial recognition service called Pimeyes…and pull…up information about the subject from…the web, including their home address and phone number…[all] by wearing a pair of glasses that look like any other…

The Implosion Begins (#1237)

Now that MAGA controls the “sex trafficking” narrative, expect more of this:

…[Trump’s] FBI…wants you to believe that shadowy pedophile cabals are behind a [supposed] surge of crimes committed against children….[and predictably,] Democrats in Congress want to give the FBI more money to feed that frenzy….the FBI…recent[ly invented] a “Nihilistic Violent Extremist” designation focused on a [supposed] pedophile crime ring known as “764”…[and] opened an eye-popping 250 investigations into the group…[pretending it’s] a national security threat…that they claim could “bring down society”…[in] a panic characteristic of the QAnon movement — for which [Trumpist]…FBI Director Kash Patel [has expressed sympathy]…

Prudish Pedants (#1300)

Redefining words to mean something more convenient is the oldest trick in the politicians’ playbook:

[Sex-obsessed politician] Mike Lee…wants to redefine obscenity in a way that could render all sorts of legal sexual content illegal…[Lee has once again reintroduced his] Interstate Obscenity Definition Act…to get porn off the internet…so [creators can be]…prosecuted…his proposed definition of obscenity is “so broad” that the TV show Game of Thrones could fall under its purview…and…makes a mockery of the First Amendment…”there’s nothing about that definition that…would survive constitutional review,” says [noted 1st amendment attorney] Robert Corn-Revere…Lee wants to replace the average person’s opinion [as utilized in the Miller test] with his own.  And his own opinion seems to be that virtually any depiction of human sexuality is obscene…This isn’t about age-gating online porn or otherwise ensuring that it’s not easily accessible to minors.  It’s about ensuring that no one can to see content that that might “arouse” or “titillate”…

I Spy (#1522)

In mass surveillance, fascism beats communism hands down:

A massive aviation industry clearinghouse that processes data for 12 billion passenger flights per year is selling that information to the Trump [regime for use in targeting]…migration…The data — including “full flight itineraries, passenger name records, and financial details, which are otherwise difficult or impossible to obtain” for past and future flights — is fed into a secretive government intelligence operation called the Travel Intelligence Program and provided to…ICE…and other [spook houses]…When a passenger buys a flight through [any booking website or] travel agency…the transaction is fed through the Airlines Reporting Corporation, which [is jointly owned by Delta, Southwest, United, American, Alaska, JetBlue, Air Canada, Lufthansa, and Air France,] acts as an intermediary between travel agencies and airlines…[and] includes information on 54 percent of all flights taken globally…the Travel Intelligence Program “was established after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to [spy on travelers for cop shops and spook houses]”…Because no other comparable financial clearinghouse exists in aviation, there’s no alternative [to ARC] for travel agencies or consumers to use instead…

No Escape (#1522)

The inevitable result of giving sexually-aggressive thugs total power over women:

Michigan [politicians and screws] are [the] defendants in a new $500 million lawsuit [because screws thought it was funny to] record…body camera footage of naked women [locked in the state’s filthy cages]…500-plus women…were [victimized in]…”a grotesque and deliberate abuse of power” at Michigan’s only women’s prison…[screws] forced hundreds of…rape survivors…to submit to video recording while completely nude during [molestation by other screws], while showering, using toilets and in other states of undress…[all under the pretext of] “security concerns”…

Thought Control (#1526)

Alabama censors are angry they couldn’t force obedience by taking library funds:

…the [censorious] Alabama Public Library Service…board will face a surging crowd of speakers…[angry because] the Fairhope Public Library’s state funding [was cancelled in an attempt to compel more censorship.  Anti-book activists]…are…also expected to [barge] in…Krysti Shallenberger…of Read Freely Alabama [said] “People are furious”…[about] the board[‘s heavy-handed]…push…[to reduce] professional librarians [to mere clerks, without power to properly curate their collections, by withholding] $42,000…in [state funding].  An online fundraiser has helped raise enough money to restore the lost funding…The lion’s share of the Fairhope Public Library’s funding comes from local sources, and city officials have vowed not to cut any of the nearly $1 million it provides…The funding suspension [was instigated]…by Rebecca Watson, a[n outside agitator from pro-censorship cult] Moms for Liberty…

The Widening Gyre (#928)

Georgia cops are still destroying lives over racist “brat snatching” fantasies:

After [being locked for] 45 days in a…Georgia…jail on a [bogus] charge of attempted kidnapping, Mahendra Patel was released on…bond…Patel, 57, was arrested on March 18 and initially denied bail after a [hysterical racist] accused him of trying to kidnap her 2-year-old son in a…[crowded] Walmart…[in actuality] Patel approached…Caroline Miller…to ask for help finding Tylenol.  Miller was sitting on a motorized shopping cart…for disabled customers (even though she is not disabled) and had [the] toddler…on her lap…[But because] Patel [is brown, Miller turned that innocent interaction into]…”I had to rip my baby out of some…man’s hands because he was trying to snatch him”…However, security footage shown during Patel’s latest bail hearing…[shows] that Patel…was merely trying to help stabilize the toddler as the mother began standing up from the cart…Witnesses also [contradicted]…Miller’s story…[but] Prosecutor Jesse Evans [wants to ruin an immigrant’s life]…and…[is doubling down on his fantasy of catching a dangerous] criminal…

Pyrrhic Victory (#1417)

Fools refuse to grasp what a danger biometric identification actually is:

Sam Altman…[has] announced…a new…eye-scanning orb….[which] scans [gullible fools’] irises, creates a unique user ID, stores that information on the blockchain, and uses it as a form of identity verification…the [sales pitch claims] it could ostensibly thwart [the same] scammers…enable[d]…by [Altman’s] other startup, OpenAI…So the World app, and its hardware component, are Altman’s solution to [a self-created] problem…whiffs of a scam have plagued the startup since it launched…[though it] claims…12 million users have been verified with the orb.  The company says it expects to generate revenue…through fees paid by [busybodies who want people’s] identities verified…But World is also a for-profit cryptocurrency company that…has been criticized by privacy advocates…[for] explicitly marketing its services to countries with a high percentage of unbanked or underbanked citizens, and…[bribing] people to sign up and have their irises scanned.  Brazil and Hong Kong have [already] banned Worldcoin [and its attendant] features…Kenya, Portugal, and Spain [have] all instituted temporary restrictions…

Thought Control (#1472)

A small victory for American ideals, but a victory nonetheless:

…the majority of candidates backed by pro-censorship organizations like Moms for Liberty lost their school board races in Texas on [May 3rd, demonstrating]…that the tide may be turning against the…pro-censorship [cult]…in [urban], suburban, and rural districts [alike, even]…candidates backed by big money [authoritarian groups]…In another victory for grassroots groups fighting for intellectual freedom, in Florida, a bill that would have redefined “harmful to minors”…to [mean whatever any politician or other wannabe censor points at while barfing that phrase]…died in session on [May 2nd]…

No Escape (#1475)

The human and financial costs of our society’s sick infatuation with incarceration are staggering:

Another 10 men who were [locked in cages by the state of Oregon as teenagers]…are suing the state [because] the longtime p[hys]ician at the facility…sexually abus[ed] them.  More than 20 men [were molested by] Dr. Edward Gary Edwards…and…[screws, staff, nurses, and] officials at the [cage stack] ignor[ed] the[ir complaints] and [intentionally] allow[ed the abuse] to continue.  Edwards worked…at the [prison] for more than four decades…[and] died in February…The abuse was so well-known…he…had a nickname: “Dr. Cold Fingers”…[his victims] are seeking $51 million…[this is only] the latest lawsuit [against Oregon’s juvenile dungeon system].  Emily Echtenkamp…was convicted in March of sexually abusing [one victim]…

The Last Shall Be First (#1521)

What kind of warped mind thinks it’s OK for male cops to barge into a women’s bathroom?

A [lesbian] couple…were [h]arrassed…[by a male security guard in a women’s restroom]…at The Liberty Hotel [in Boston]…Ansley Baker and…Liz Victor…went to a Kentucky Derby party at the hotel [on May 3rd, but] their afternoon ended when hotel security [barged into] the women’s restroom and…started banging on the stall doors.  Baker [presents in a masculine fashion]…and…the…creep…[demanded her] ID…to check [her] gender…[When he was shown to be an idiot he demanded] the couple…leave the hotel…and [lied to management that] they [were]…”sharing a bathroom stall”…and [had attacked] “our security team”…even…[though] there was only one [guard]…

Shame, Shame (#1535)

Zuckerberg is out of his mind:

Mark Zuckerberg has a new way to invade your privacy: a creepier version of [Cat, I Farted].  Last week, Facebook…launched…a dedicated home for [its LLM] chatbot.  The app, which climbed to No. 2 on the iPhone free download charts, promises users a more “personalized” [chatbot] with tailored answers and [“]advice[“].  And it includes a new social network for people to share their [chatbot] conversations and images.  But [it accomplishes this “personalization” via] surveillance…drawing on years of personal information tracked by its sister apps Facebook and Instagram…it buil[ds] a so-called memory file…that…by default ke[eps] a copy of everything…said to it — to tailor its responses…to train a future version of [the LLM] and, eventually, [to] target [users] with ads…push[ing] the limits on privacy in ways that go much further than rivals [Cat, I Farted] or [Google] Gemini…Whatever you chat about with [the computer], just picture Zuckerberg watching…

Torture Chamber (#1536)

The State tortures thousands of people for crossing an imaginary line:

The Trump [regime] has created a human rights crisis with its draconian, made-for-TV campaign of mass deportation…three people died inside [concentration camps] in April alone, bringing the total…since Trump returned to [power] to at least seven…Brayan Garzón-Rayo, a 27-year-old man from Colombia…died on April 8…in Missouri…Nhon Nguc Nguyen, 55, from Vietnam, died on April 16 after [being caged for] two months…in Texas…Marie Ange Blaise, a 44-year-old citizen of Haiti…died on April 25…after several weeks of being shuffled between [camps] in Louisiana, Florida and Puerto Rico…dozens of people have died preventable deaths in…ICE…con[centration camps] in the past, and…conditions are rapidly deteriorating as the [regime] packs facilities as part of [the mad emperor’s] war on immigrants…there are [currently] nearly 50,000 people [crammed into the camps, and]…Trump [wants]…to [add] 84,000 more…

An inherent risk with any type of app that allows users to track or spy on [people] is that…data…can be leaked.  –  Jason Koebler & Emanuel Maiberg

Above the Law

Your “leaders” at work:

[Typical and representative New York politician] Dan Halloran — who spent years in federal prison for a $200,000 bribery scheme to rig a mayoral election — has been arrested and charged for having hundreds of sickening child sex abuse videos on his phone…Halloran[‘s phone was searched]…at Miami International Airport…as he arrived…from Cuba…[and] was found with 1,362 child sex videos hidden on his iPhone — including about 35 videos of…prepubescent…girls…

I Spy (#1272)

Any loophole in any right will inevitably be expanded by authoritarians:

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act — or HIPAA — established in 1996 to protect the privacy and security of patient health information, includes [an] exception…[for pigs rooting in people’s private business.  So of course]…after [SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade] in 2022 [sociopathic cops and prosecutors immediately started trying to pry into women’s private medical]…records…to [ruin their lives] and those [of their doctors and friends].  Health officials [therefore]…enacted a HIPAA rule to keep health information private when the patient was in a state with legal [abortion] access and the care was obtained legally…Two lawsuits [now] seek to rescind that…rule, while another brought by [predatory psychopath] Ken Paxton goes a step further, asking the court to [give pigs carte blanche to dig in women’s private]…health information [without any restrictions whatsoever.  Giving this violent lunatic what he wants]…“could erode patients’ trust…in their providers and dissuade them from wanting to seek out health care”…said Ashley Emery…[of] Partnership for Women and Families. “[Cops] could [even] pressure a psychiatrist to share patient notes from therapy sessions without a…warrant”…Missouri…Tennessee…Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota and West Virginia…all [want cops given such control over]…doctors and pharmacists in [any] state…as [if that weren’t bad enough, Trumpist stooge]…Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk…[is try]ing…to permanently block…HIPAA [entirely]…

Secret Squirrel (#1385)

I can’t feel sorry for people with problems of their own making:

T-Mobile sells a small GPS tracker…called SyncUP, which [parents] can use to track the locations of young children who don’t  have cell phones yet.  [On April 1st, some] parent[s] who use…SyncUP…[were] shown the exact, real-time locations of…random children around the country, but not the locations of [their] own kids…It is clear the tracked people are children because their profile pictures show images of young kids wearing backpacks, and many of the locations shown are schools…T-Mobile [blamed]…”a temporary system issue…that resulted from a planned technology update”…T-Mobile also offers a device called SyncUp DRIVE, which is a dedicated car tracking device.  In a Reddit thread called “SyncUp sharing locations of other users,” several posters said that they were being shown other people’s locations…

I Spy (#1420)

Everything I read about these apps makes me happier I have never even looked at one:

Apple’s iOS apps catering to the sugar dating, BDSM, and LGBTQ+ communities – where privacy is…paramount – have leaked highly sensitive content…BDSM People, CHICA, TRANSLOVE, PINK, and BRISH apps had publicly accessible secrets published together with the apps’ code…[the exposed] information [included] API keys, passwords, [and] encryption keys…credentials placed in client applications are accessible to [cops, spooks, and other malef]actors [who] can easily abuse them to gain access to…profile photos, public posts, profile verification images, photos removed for rule violations, and private photos sent through direct messages…All of the affected apps [we]re developed by M.A.D Mobile Apps Developers Limited.  Their identical architecture explains why the same type of sensitive data was exposed…the apps are exclusive to iOS and do not have Android or web alternatives…

Thought Control (#1422)

Burble burble BLUE STATE burble drool:

New Hampshire [politician] Glenn Cordelli…w[ants to make it easier to]…ban…books…by [taking]…oversight of book complaints…[away from] school administrators [and] local school [boards and handing it]…to the [much more politicized] State Board of Education…Cordelli [absurdly declared] “This is not banning of books,” [before adding that making sausage does not involve the slaughter of animals, and that having] children [does not involve] sex…

No Escape (ROTW #10)

And this is just LA County; every single jurisdiction in the US has similar rates:

Los Angeles County plans to pay $4 billion to settle nearly 7,000 [lawsuits over] sexual abuse…in…its juvenile facilities and foster homes, dwarfing the largest sex abuse settlements in U.S. history…The Boy Scouts of America, by comparison, agreed to pay $2.46 billion.  The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has paid out about $1.5 billion…Victims of USC gynecologist George Tyndall got $1.1 billion.  Michigan State University paid $500 million to victims of team doctor Larry Nassar.  The unprecedented settlement stems from…a 2020 state law that gave victims of childhood [and adolescent] sexual abuse a new window to sue…the thousands of lawsuits, most of which involve [horrifying] abuse from the 1980s through the 2000s, [demonstrate how] government…facilities turn…into hunting grounds for predators…[due to the] immense power [officials are given] over [human beings of all ages locked] in their c[ages]…the $4-billion settlement [doesn’t even] cover…all…of the…lawsuits.  Some attorneys were not willing to participate in the “global mediation process,” and plaintiffs in those cases will be part of a separate settlement…

I Spy (#1490)

Civil liberties violations only start with people the government has demonized:

U.S. immigration officials [want]…to collect social media handles from people applying for…green cards or citizenship, to comply with an [imperial edict] from [mad emperor Trump, thus]…expand[ing] the government’s reach in social media surveillance to people already vetted and in the U.S. legally, such as asylum seekers, green card, and citizenship applicants—and not just those applying to enter the country…social media monitoring by immigration [busybodies] has been a practice…since…the second Obama administration and [was] ramp[ed] up under Trump’s first [reign]…

Should…the United States…abandon the human right to privacy and the U.S. Constitution, everyone will lose.  –  Fight for the Future

If Men Were Angels

This will continue until fools stop teaching children unquestioning obedience to “authority”:

A…[South Carolina] preacher…[named] William Franklin Galbreath…[has been] arrested…[for repeatedly] sexually assaulting a victim in 2019 while she was a child and [continuing to do] so in her teenage years from 2022 until this year…[there also appears to be] a 2nd [teenage] victim…

Under Review (#779)

Though the “sex trafficking” panic is over, UK politicians are still bleating nonsense about “pimping” and “pizza”:

During the…reading of…[a] bill…[a UK politician named] Rebecca Paul [suddenly started bloviating about]…“the scourge of commercial sexual exploitation” [and demanded] banning advertising of prostitution online[, no doubt via a giant firewall which would keep Brits from accessing any site outside the country]…Paul [seemed to be having some kind of retro seizure, vomiting out decayed garbage from 2012 about]…“young people…treated as merchandise…[by] pimps and traffickers”…“the Etsy of sexual exploitation”…[and] “pizza”…

Decentralization (#1181)

Using the mad emperor’s two favorite bugaboos to ramp up surveillance:

More than one million Americans are about to [be subjected to] a new level of financial surveillance.  The Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network…announced that the threshold for currency transaction reports has been lowered from $10,000 to $200 for Americans living in 30 zip codes in California and Texas…[using the excuse that it’s] “to further combat the illicit activities and money laundering of Mexico-based cartels…along the southwest border of the United States”…Alex Nowrasteh…[of] the Cato Institute…warned people in February that…Trump’s decision to [falsely] designate cartels as terrorists could have repercussions for civil liberties and the economy at large…the designation would allow the government to freeze assets, enact secondary sanctions, and take greater control of the financial system generally…

I Spy (#1376)

In mass surveillance, fascism beats communism hands down:

A contractor for…ICE…and many other U.S. government agencies has developed a tool that lets analysts more easily pull a target individual’s publicly available data from a wide array of sites, social networks, apps, and services across the web at once, including Bluesky, OnlyFans, and various [Facebook properties], according to a leaked list of…more than 200 sites that…ShadowDragon…[illicitly] pulls data from and makes available to its government clients, allowing them to map out a person’s activity, movements, and relationships.  The news comes after ICE detained Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent Columbia University protester and green card holding legal permanent resident…with the intention of deporting him…Multiple tech companies and websites whose public data ShadowDragon pulls [complain that] the contractor [is] violating their terms of use around scraping…

The Vultures Descend (#1483)

This insanity will keep getting worse until these maniacs are forcibly stopped:

States have long kept centralized databases to monitor prescriptions for…drugs [they think politicians should control instead of doctors].  Now, abortion pills are being [added to the list]…in [forced-birth states].  Last May, Louisiana [launched that particular “monkey see, monkey do” parade]…Bamboo Health, the [fascist] company running Louisiana’s prescription [surveillance] database, is ready to track the drugs.  As of March, Louisiana clinicians are required to log every mifepristone and misoprostol prescription they write in Bamboo’s database…[and] Texas, Indiana, and Idaho are considering similar [spying]…Prescription monitoring programs…are routinely [ab]used to [persecu]te doctors for…doing [their jobs when politicians have decided they know better.  Similar campaigns were used to make examples of doctors for giving suffering patients]…much-needed [pain] care [in order to terrorize] doctors…for doing their jobs…[doctors practicing] reproductive medicine could share the same fate…

No Escape (#1488)

The inevitable result of giving aggressive men total power over women:

In women’s prisons, sexual intrusion, harassment, coercion and violence are daily realities.  And in solitary confinement, this conduct is so routine that many women — particularly the younger ones…believe it’s simply an inevitable part of their incarceration…This isn’t just a few rotten apples in one facility.  In 2023, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TCDJ) reported over 700 [incident]s of staff-on-prisoner sexual abuse and harassment to the PREA Ombudsman…Almost 90 of those cases involved sexual harassment, nearly 150 were categorized as voyeurism, and a little more than 500 were classified as sexual abuse…[but] only 20% met the prison system’s onerous criteria for sexual assault or “improper sexual activity with a person in custody”…these stats only scratch the surface…prisons…make the grievance process too painful to be worth it.  Women who make reports can end up being cited for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a guard, which is grounds for being sent to solitary…[which] means no phone calls, and contact visits can also be suspended during investigations, which I’ve seen last 60 to 90 days, or even longer.  In the hole, guards use a variety of methods to retaliate against women who complain about their abuse.  They can write bogus disciplinary infractions that can lead to the loss of visits and phone calls, more time in solitary confinement, and ultimately a longer sentence.  [Screws] can also turn off the electricity and running water in women’s cells and refuse to serve them meals…

Thought Control (#1515)

They realized there would be public outcry if the state actually started arresting librarians, so they’re trying to seem more “reasonable”:

The South Dakota Senate gutted a bill…that would have subjected librarians to criminal prosecution for [working in a library containing any book any politician decided to point at while belching “]obscene material[“]…and replaced that language with a [demand] that [wannabe censors be]…allow[ed to] appeal…[any decision by any librarian in]…court…Supporters of the original version [foamed at the mouth while making barbaric threats.  Pro-censorship politician]…Taffy Howard…[actually called for literally lynching librarians]…

There is no huge difference…in the lives of [prisoners]…based on whether a Democrat or Republican is in office.  –  Julie Abbate

First They Came for the Hookers… (#573)

Politicians believe they can excuse hypocrisy by the magic word “illicit”:

A [Mississippi] bill meant to eradicate the state’s individual income tax does not apply to sex workers…”all…income derived from producing, distributing, directing, manufacturing, issuing, publishing or advertising any depiction of sexually explicit conduct shall be at the rate of five percent (5%),” House Bill No. 1 reads…[bill sponsor Trey] Lamar did not explain why he included [the provision, except to vomit]…”illegal and illicit activity”…[at] reporters…The Clarion Ledger [has] contacted a labor attorney to discuss whether a state singling out one form of legal employment for taxation is legal…

Paint By Numbers (#1006)

Silly “awareness raising” stunts by crowds of idiots are a relic of the last decade; now they’re merely marketing gimmicks:

A car show and cruise featuring 120 vehicles… [w]as part of an annual fundraiser put on by In-N-Out Burger’s [Christian fundamentalist] owner[s]…The event, called Cruisin’ 2 Freedom, benefits Slave 2 Nothing, a [profiteer group] that [uses “]human trafficking[” as a hook to separate fools from their money]…Benjamin Nolot…of Exodus Cry [shared his sexual fantasies about underage girls]…

The Course of a Disease (#1209)

Ruhama, the current DBA of the gang of prohibitionist nuns who enslaved Irish women in the “Magdalene laundries” for centuries, not only pushed the horrific “Swedish model” despite knowing that it would increase violence against sex workers, but actually celebrated the increase in violence when it happened exactly as predicted.  Now they’re predictably trying to widen their repression by demanding both internet censorship and increased surveillance of Irish citizens, not to mention more police violence against vulnerable women, by vomiting out the same propaganda they’ve used for the past two decades but pretending it’s new and based in “research”.  I’m not even going to bother quoting this same nonsense, barfed up by long-time Ruhama fantasist Ruth Breslin, but the link is there if you feel inclined to wade in sewage.

No Escape (#1372)

Your “leaders” refer to this as “correction”:

On the first day of his second presidential term, Donald Trump severely restricted transgender prisoners’ access to safe housing and proper medical care…one order bars the federal government from funding gender-affirming care, mandates that trans women be housed in men’s prisons, and instructs the federal government to remove protections for transgender people from Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) guidelines…

Censorship Ascendant (#1494)

The First Amendment is now being eroded just like many of the others:

Bias reporting systems have been popping up in one form or another across more than a dozen state and city municipalities in the last four years, usually consisting of an online portal or telephone number where citizens are encouraged to submit reports…of speech and behavior that are not only not crimes, but also First Amendment-protected expression…In Oregon, citizens can report “offensive ‘jokes’” and “imitating someone’s cultural norm or practice”…In Philadelphia…authorities fielding “hate incidents” can now ask for exact [names and] addresses…about the alleged offending party…city officials will in some cases “contact those accused of bias and request that they attend sensitivity training”…to teach you the error of your ways…

The Puritan Recrudescence (#1503)

“Age verification” laws are bad for speech, but good for VPN business:

In recent years, the implementation of age verification laws for adult content websites has sparked a significant surge in VPN demand across…the United States…The data paints a clear picture of the soaring demand for VPN services in states such as Florida (1,150%), Oklahoma (1,060%), Utah (967%), and Alabama (542%), among others…The use of VPNs has become a popular workaround for individuals seeking unrestricted access to online content. Thus, despite the geo-blocking measures, Pornhub’s traffic reached an all-time high, surpassing 1.8 billion visits by late 2024…

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #17)

Cops should not be allowed anywhere near legal minors:

A Corpus Christi [Texas cop has been] arrested [for repeated statutory rape of] a 15-year-old…Daniel Verduzco’s [creepy behavior was not discovered until the girl’s]…family…moved to Tulsa in early 2024…[after a suicide attempt,] the girls’ [mother]…went through her [phone]…and found pictures of…a c[learly]…adult [cop and interrogated]…her daughter…[about him].  Tulsa police…contacted Homeland Security…in Corpus Christi…

License to Rape

Police states define the bodies of all citizens as “crime scenes” which can be violated by “authorities” at will:

A suburban New York [cop shop sexually] violated residents…[routinely] making illegal arrests [in order to commit sexual assaults it called] strip and cavity searches…a new…[DoJ] report on…[the] misconduct…in Mount Vernon, just north of New York City, is one of 12 investigations opened by the DOJ into local policing agencies since 2021…No single [sexual assault] prompted the investigation…but the [sexual violation] of two [elderly] women…[was a typical and representative example, excused by rapist cops barfing the word “]drugs[” at]…the women…After an internal investigation found that the [rapist cops] had lied [to justify the assault, they were not charged for their crime but instead merely]…docked a few vacation days…Until at least the fall of 2022, it was the Mount Vernon [rape gang]’s practice to [molest and violate] every person it arrested…[sometimes] also s[exually assaulting] people they did not [even bother to falsely accuse of crimes]…

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #11)

Hey, female cops; how’s that collaboration with the police state working out?

The NYPD’s [biggest costumed pig has] abruptly resigned…after…[it was dis]covered…that he demanded sexual favors from a subordinate in exchange for massive amounts of overtime…Jeffrey Maddrey[, a close friend of rapist Mayor Eric Adams,] stepped down soon after…Quathisha Epps…[reported] that he routinely preyed upon her…in a [deal for her scamming]…roughly $204,000 in overtime…last year…Epps…worked for Maddrey as he moved up in the NYPD from Chief of Housing to Chief of Patrol, but…his sexual demands didn’t start until June 2023 when he landed as Chief of Department…When she started to try to get away from Maddrey recently, Epps was outed on a list…in retaliation…and is being investigated over the excessive overtime…Maddrey [previously preyed upon another sow named]…Tabitha Foster [who] filed an unsuccessful 2016 civil suit…

Do As I Say, Not As I Do (#1476)

It’s too bad cops don’t spend all of their time fantasy role-playing with each other:

A [California screw named]…Anthony Michael Russo…died by suicide at his home…[after he propositioned and sent porn to another cop fantasy role-playing]…as a 15-year-old [on the internet.  His boss then made a big show of crocodile tears over the predictable result of his entrapment scheme]…

To Molest and Rape (#1479)

Cops should not be allowed anywhere near legal minors:

A [typical and representative]…Wyoming [cop] is facing two felony sex charges [for] sexually abus[ing] multiple children [as young as 6].  Myron Chatwin could face up to 40 years in prison and $20,000 in fines if convicted…

And yes, that includes their bosses:

The people of Maypearl [Texas] trusted Police Chief Kevin Coffey.  Few were aware that Maypearl was the eighth [cop shop] that Coffey had worked at in 11 years.  Fewer knew that there was a trail of accusations and secrets in his past.  And none could have predicted the destruction he would wreak in their town.  The kids would eventually call him The Creeper.  The adults would denounce him as a monster.  The prosecutors who put him away for child sexual abuse would describe him as a master manipulator “who groomed the community”…

To Molest and Rape (ROTW #15)

When will the mainstream media admit that pigs in schools are a menace?

A [typical and representative] Scranton [Pennsylvania cop named]…Stephen Carroll sexually assaulted multiple students while he was [paid to lurk in schools in order to spy on, harass, and intimidate students]…four of [his victims] were underage…[and] Carroll…drugg[ed] some of the[m in order to rape them more easily]…

No Escape (#1498)

Much, much more of this, please:

The US Bureau of Prisons (BoP) has agreed to pay $115m to more than 100 [victims] of [serial rape by screws and other staff]…at FCI Dublin…[AKA] the “rape club”…Victims who came forward to report the abuse have been fighting for years for protections and accountability.  Seven former Dublin employees, including the warden…and…chaplain, have been criminally convicted of sexual crimes, and more than 20 other employees were [rewarded with paid vacations]…The settlement appears to be the largest single payout in BoP history…and…includes a proposed consent decree…[which] covers nearly 500 class members who are…now [cag]ed in other prisons.  The consent decree stipulates that the the bureau will be subject to continued outside monitoring and will…limit the use of solitary confinement…and release eligible plaintiffs to home confinement and community programs “as soon as practicable”.  Survivors of the Dublin [atrocities] shipped to other prisons [like cattle] have reported continued…retaliation and…[denial of] access [to] trauma recovery services…some of the victims were targeted because they were not US citizens and…face ongoing deportation risks…
