Banishment (#1533)

The state uses bogus excuses to cram people into dungeons they will never leave:

Diary #801

A week ago today, when I went out to feed the animals, I found Jonathan lying on his side in the stable.  That’s unusual for llamas; typically they rest sitting upright, with their legs folded under their bodies (the “kush” position).  When I went to investigate he tried to spit at me, so I figured he might just be not feeling well and decided to leave him alone to see what he’d do.  The next morning he was still in the same position, just chewing his cud and refusing to get up.  So I consulted a large animal vet who told me that older llamas (Jonathan is 19 and the vet said the oldest llama she ever heard of lived to 22) sometimes develop neurological issues, and the important thing is to keep him upright because lying on their sides too long is actually harmful to camelids.  So I went back out to the stable and tried rocking him and otherwise bothering him, to no avail; I then hit upon the idea of grabbing his right legs (he was lying on his right side) and flipping him over.  He struggled a bit, but it was surprisingly easy to flip him, given that he weighs in the neighborhood of 200 kilograms. Once on his left side, he started kicking and twisting and within a minute was in kush position.  So I watched him for a little while, and within another minute or two he started to list to the right; I grabbed a hay bale and put it on that side to prop him up.  But he didn’t like that either, and much to my surprise was soon standing again.  He was extremely wobbly, so I leaned against him to prop him up, and he took a few steps forward and leaned against the stable wall.  He then started slowly moving forward, leaning against the wall but remaining upright, and after a while I decided to go about my business and regularly check up on him.  About an hour later I returned to find he had left the stable and was browsing along the north fence; he stayed there until after dark, and would not come to the stable for a scoop of oats as he usually does when I call him.  Thursday morning I looked out about 90 minutes after sunrise and he was still in the same place, though in kush position; he later started moving around the paddock normally all day and came for his oats when called a little before sunset, and since then has behaved normally.  But apparently, I now need to expect occasional repeats of the incident or similar geriatric camelid behaviors, which I guess is only appropriate considering I’m starting to display geriatric problems and behaviors myself.

A new…federal lawsuit [has been filed by the family of] a Minnesota postal worker [who] died after [cops] and [screws deliberately] ignored clear signs he was suffering from a massive stroke – [choos]ing [instead to pretend] his medical emergency [was] drug impairment…Kingsley Fifi Bimpong…[was dumped] on a jail cell floor [and allowed to lie] in his own urine for hours without medical attention…On the night of November 16, 2024, [a pig saw] Bimpong…driving the wrong way…into oncoming traffic…after being pulled over, Bimpong appeared extremely confused.  He couldn’t say where he lived or worked, even though he was wearing a USPS vest, and repeatedly said, “I don’t know”…[big pig] Martin Jensen [is supposedly] trained…to…distinguish…drug impairment from medical emergencies such as strokes…[but couldn’t be bothered to perform an] evaluation…[claiming it] would be “a whole bunch of time wasted”…[because] Bimpong [was black.  So instead he]…was arrested for…DWI…[thrown violently to the floor] in a holding cell…and…[left him to die] in his own waste…for more than three hours…the…nurse was not called until…he [started] foaming at the mouth and having [a] seizure…Toxicology reports…later…confirmed no drugs were in his system…

Diary #794

It’s a good thing I don’t get emotionally attached to poultry, because we haven’t had a good year for them.  I’m guessing it’s bird flu; we lost one of the red hens in July, then the turkey on the 1st, then one of the young white hens on the 10th.  They always go the same way: they’re extremely sluggish and keeping to themselves one day, then the next day I find them dead, away from the others and facing into a corner.  I am guessing the behavior is an instinctive one, designed by evolution to keep the disease from spreading to other members of the flock.  Once I discover the dead bird, I put on gloves and remove it immediately.  I am guessing they’re getting it from wild birds that land in the coop; I recently found a dead Steller’s jay not far from there.  So far it looks like isolated cases of infection rather than a full-blown poultry epidemic, but I’m keeping my eyes on them, and I sincerely hope we’ve seen the last of it because I really don’t want to have to deal with figuring out how to vaccinate them when the vaccine isn’t readily available in the US.

Another “youth pastor”, another distancing “former”:

A Jersey City pastor [named]…Robert Anthony…Langston…[repeatedly molested at least] two [boys under 15 while he was “youth pastor”] of Landmark Tabernacle in Denver…in [the late ’90s.  One of the]…victims…had an abusive situation at home…[and] was groomed…to…accompan[y] Langston and his wife as they evangelized across the U.S. and eventually settled in Jersey City…[where] he…continued to be “groped and assaulted” by the pastor after [2003]…he…was “very scared” to report the abuse because “the church is very anti-homosexuality.”  The second victim…[said] Langston…“appeared to prefer boys in the church who had absent fathers or were raised by their grandparents”…

Walled Garden

The open internet is becoming a thing of the past:

The Cop Myth (#1562)

It’s too bad they don’t inflict all of their violence on each other:

Carlos Baker, the Chicago [cop] who [murdered] his partner Krystal Rivera…[has now] attacked a[nother] female [cop]…The [victim reported]…that Baker and another woman beat her [on August 10th] at [a] bar…[because she wouldn’t] delete [certain] videos taken on her cellphone…[she] escaped, with the help of others, and had a friend take her to [the] hospital…It’s not clear what’s on the videos…Officials…have referred to the shooting [of Rivera] as an accident, but [her] family has called for an outside investigation …[because] Rivera had been a key witness to the theft of a…gun…and [Baker may have wanted to silence her.  His]…career as a cop has been [characteriz]ed by disciplinary problems from the start, including a complaint…[due to his stalking] another…woman at a bar…[and threatening] her…[with] a gun…and…more than a dozen [other reports] of misconduct since joining the [pig herd] in December 2021…
