I can’t breathe.  –  David Glen Ward

The name of Caroll Spinney, who died earlier this month, may not be familiar, but I’m sure you’ll know the names of two characters he played for almost half a century:  Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.  So I can’t think of a better way to observe Christmas and honor Spinney than to feature this video of Oscar sharing his feelings about the holiday.  The links above it were provided by Mama Tush (“faking” & “strangles”); Radley Balko (“explain”); Anarras Ansible (“treatment”); Mike Siegel (“Kampala”); and Cop Crisis (“execution” & “umbrella”).

You still might get paid.  –  another Bridezilla

My friend Mark Draughn suggested that sex workers might find this video useful to send to annoying people online, and I can’t say I disagree.  The links above it were provided by Anarras Ansible, Franklin Harris, Mike Siegel, Cop Crisis (x2), Mark Bennett, and Radley Balko, in that order.

He picked the wrong house to break into.  –  Willie Murphy

Most “Southern” humor isn’t that funny, but I’ve found “It’s a Southern Thing” often has amusing videos, and I especially liked this one.  The links above it were provided by Scott Greenfield, Cop Crisis, Brooke Magnanti, Mama Tush, Mark Kowal, Franklin Harris, and Grace, in that order; “Florida man” was also provided by Scott.

I will raise my voice whenever the fuck I want!  –  Arizona cop

I laughed so hard at this video Brooke Magnanti shared with me that I just had to pass it along.  The links above it were provided by Jesse Walker (“Gifaanisqatsi”); Radley Balko (“headline” and “wedding”); ACLU (“teen”); Cop Crisis (“infant” and “invasion”); and Popehat (“Village”).

Stupid little children!  –  “Officer” Harry Reid

Want me to watch your commercials?  Put as much class and creativity into them as Banco Sabadell put into this one (discovered by Grace); you don’t strictly need to include Beethoven, but it wouldn’t hurt.  The links above it were provided by Eric Sprankle (“kitty”), Mark Bennett (“Jesus”), Cop Crisis (“bullies”, “feed” and “mayor”), Walter Olson (“sirree”), and Mike Siegel (“adoption”).

The science behind marijuana consumption turning your tongue green is about as sound as the science behind the earth being flat or that lying makes your nose grow.  –  Erik Altieri

This animation from 1929 is meant to be a simulation of the evolution of simple life forms; it was called to my attention by The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society.  The links above it were all contributed by the very active Cop Crisis account, with the exceptions of “horror” (Radley Balko), “trick or treat” (Phoenix Calida), and “headline” (Lucy Steigerwald).

[Cops] can blow up your house, throw you out on the streets and say, “See you later. Deal with it.”  –  Leo Lech

Regular readers know that I love unusual song covers; Matt Welch recently pointed me to this surprisingly powerful acoustic German-language cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint in Black” by the late Czech star Karel Gott.  I also recently discovered a Twitter account named Cop Crisis, which provided three of the links above the video (“sirree”, “oinks” and “understand”); the others were contributed by Tim Cushing (“says”), Mark Draughn (“safer”), and Jacob Sullum (“smell”).

Stop resisting!  –  Zach Christensen

As usual, the best Halloween videos arrive too late to be featured before Halloween, but I think you’ll enjoy this one (provided by Franklin Harris) anyway, especially if you forgot that a lot of Ray Bradbury’s early work was horror.  The inks above it were contributed by Kevin Wilson, Clarissa, Cop Crisis, Elizabeth N. Brown, Popehat, and Cop Crisis again, in that order.

Let me out. It’s fucking dark in here.  –  the late Shay Bradley

There just aren’t many good Halloween videos any more, so I’m always happy when someone (in this case Kate D’Adamo) provides one.  The links above it were contributed by Franklin Harris, Grace, Tushy Galore, Mike Siegel, Tim Cushing, and Jesse Walker, in that order.

I’ve always been dedicated to the idea of this as the time of year for spooky fun.  So every year I collect all the spooky, creepy or scary links and other content from the previous year into one place just before Halloween.  If you’ve come to my blog in the past year, or don’t remember previous editions, they are “Trick or Treat”, “More Trick or Treat“, “Tricks and Treats“, “This Trick’s a Treat”, “Tricky Treats“, and “A Trickle of Treats” (because I also love wordplay).   Horror, death or Halloween-themed columns of the past year include “Eros and Thanatos“, “Not Your Costume?“, “Its Own Reward“, “Frozen Smoke“, “The Science of Sin“, and the short story “Wheels“; there are creepy or spooky-fun videos in Links #433, #435, #445, and #447; and here’s a collection of spooky or Halloweeny links:
